This is an old story thats been done to death for 35 years. let it go!
This sidewalk is for regular walking, not for fancy walking!
  • Just to add some precedence into the matter, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the US. What that means is that we are part of the US but not an official state. Yet we have an olympic team and our athletes can compete with PR or the US which ever they prefer. Something similar to what Quebec wants, the only difference is that Quebec wants to separate from Canada and Puerto Rico wants to join the US.....well at least be a part of it.

Same happen with Scotland, Ireland, Wales and some others... but when it comes to Quebec in Canada it's always a bit more dramatic, and ideas like that are always labelled as bad, fucking bad, or utterly fucking moronicly bad, so it's nothing new, but it's always frustrating.

Its frustrating for those of us who don't understand why Quebec cannot be distinctive (it already is), but within the Canadian context. I agree, the histrionics and drama around Quebec are not helpful. A lot of it comes from the Quebec side too, though. The point was well-taken ... Why couldn't Alberta have its own hockey team, then? People scoff at the notion, even though damn, we'd kick some ass.
    :)
  • yeah why not eh? I doubt you'd be pissed off and would talk about "Fucking Alberta" if it would be the case...

Yeah I would be pissed off about Alberta or any other province wanting to have a seperate team..it's not just about the province Quebec..just what they wanna do..
Believe me..I'd say fuck Alberta if they wanted their own team etc...

i'd say alberta is the most distinct province now ... :)

If a well known lawyer in Alberta want to have a separate hockey team for Alberta for a future world championship in Edmonton, then let him speak up (until it does happen, we're only typing for fun), i'd see no scandal there... fucking Alberta... hehe.

A Quebec team would beat any other "provincial" team, in fact i think the real idea should be to have a "canadian" championship, that would be awesome... Quebec could rent goaltender to other province... to other fucking province i mean... :)

When I visited Montreal one of the moments that I remember the most was when I was in a taxi cab and that is all the taxi driver could talk about. He was really intense about separating from Canada. I could identify with him since i believe Puerto Rico should be independant. but hey... I understand how some people are very passionate and others are just fed up with the hole situation. The same things happens here everyday.

ooooo, great then, let's sing the national anthem together...
    it goes like:

oh canada... terre de nos aieux... ton front... etc...

  • fair enough about the political side, i'm a little bit on the nerves when it comes to this kind of thread... "fucking Quebec" included in the thread is not helping... so i didn't want to sound rude. I just don't like to see something important to me (Quebec situation in Canada) and a stupid lawyer proposition ,being mixed in the same topic...

I understand and don't wanna offend anyone.
Trust me..I've lived in Quebec for 16 years and want Quebec to stay but it gets annoying hearing about this all the time and get kinda fed up..My grandma and my sister which includes(brother in law, and 2 nieces) live in Quebec stillbut for the past few years have been pondering about moving accross the river to Ontario because of all this kinda stuff..that's what my Dad did when I was 16 with my family..
The point is that "Technically" Quebec is a province in Canada and should not have special treatment over any other province to have a seperate team.
I understand the cultural differences and languages trust me.. My mom is perfectly bilingual and grew up french and I actually went to a french school until grade 5 but then switched over to English..
Anyways I just don't think they deserve a "seperate team" just because they are Quebec.

I also have family in Quebec, and they're all staying... nobody's leaving, so go figure what's your point, oh and vast majority of the people i know are also bilingual, i am. Anyway i don't feel like going deep into this topic now, just keep conforting yourself (like most canadians) thinking that the national thing in Quebec will just disappear and his just stupid, if you feel this way i'm not the one who'll judge, but it's just wrong, cause it won't disappear, Canada need to make Quebec SIGN the Constitution. Take actions, otherwise this country will wake up someday with a province leaving, then believe me, there's one more that is lined up, but you can say fucking this and fucking that and fucking them all you want, it's just not resolving anything.

About the Quebec team i don't give a shit, if it ever happen i think it would be fun, but the stupid backlash coming from Canada would just be too much, so i'd rather see this proposal die.

The issue will stay ignored by many Canadians as long as people continue to be this touchy, though.

    Probably.

But I just don't get the "it will fade away" point of view (not talking about the hockey team), and the "shut up and be content with your situation" point of view, seriously i don't understand why even talking about it, is considered idiotic, dangerous or whatever. You just have to read most english newspapers vs. french newspapers, to understand how the topic is dividing. Even the most federalist columnist/politicians in Quebec, agrees that Quebec should be recognize as a nation and sign the Constitution, while even the most "moderate" journalist/politicians in english Canada think the topic should not even be... a topic. Go figure what will be the outcome...

  • It was discussed....lets see....during the summer I believe....both were interviewed on Sportsnet I think....nice to see...they also commented that the mentaility of French Canadian NHL players seems to want a united Canada.....therefore no on the seperation was the majority perspective on the matter....then they went on about the honour of wearing the Canadian jersey....was actually very refreshing....now I just wish these guys would play in Canada....lol

good post and a good laugh...re:wish these guys would play in canada :D
