They are young male whales who refuse to pull over and ask for directions. :D
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

Well I hope they have managed to swim to safe waters and hide out there.

And not been killed by the Japanese in their heinous quest to wipe whales from our planet with their "research".

Yes, melodious, unfortunately I have. :(

And I'm sorry to have brought your feel good thread to a downer, it's just we've only recently this weekend here had a National Day for the whales and Japan has informed us that the whales that we have been trying to provide sanctuary for are now part of their cull this season. They are planning on killing 550 of them for "research" purposes. Frankly I find their actions sickening in the extreme.

So I desperately hope that the two "little" fellas that came to visit you this week can avoid the Japanese whaling ships and live to swim another day.

Just as I fervently hope that the Indonesian fishing boats that poach off our waters, hacking the fins off sharks, over fishing the Pantegonian toothfish and hacking the fins from turtles, all so the Asian market can enjoy it's "delicacies" are sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
    NOPE!!!

It's good to bring down a feel good thread, you know that as well as I do! To every light side there is a darkened side...

At least we can feel a bit of faith that powers and vibrations will counterbalance somehow. Certainly living in a glass house of wealth has to have a downside. It's sad, becasue I bet a portion of the people who do these atrocites are like some of the voters we have here in America. They really believe in what they do..

I say lets have a prayer ceremony right here and now for all our animal friends in the sea, on land and in the air..

I say I lift their souls and realize that I as a human am nothing next to these species that we share the earth with..I say I as a human am a wmd to innocence...

I say, I hope that money doesn't rule over decency..thanks for letting me vent.

    on and on and on...

    peace

Vent away melodious. :) It's a very upsetting and heart breaking situation.
I can understand that people in low socio economic situations are forced to do things that are abhorent to those of us who live in more wealthy situations. I would just like to see an end to the necessity for those who are forced to feed their families by perpertrating these evils against the defenceless. And I hold no sympathy for those who are profiteering from the situation. How they sleep at night I'll never know.

But yes, I think a few minutes silence to contemplate the beautiful creatures on this planet is an excellent idea. :)

    Jeanie, thank you...

there is nothing more valuable than our mother and her creatures. there is no other view that is so exhillerating as watching a mother and her cubs or watching a baby ducks ride on hen's back. there is nothing more peaceful than savoring these gifts..

    is my wishful prayer..

as far as socio-economics, it doesn't take money to understand life and murder; right from wrong or molestation in this respect....

and personally, regarding the whales, i certainly hope they don't inadvertantly end up at 6Flags Marine World down river in Vallejo, which is at the mouth of cali's delta....whales go out to sea...to the sea...please...

Yes! How amazing to see creatures in their natural state, doing what they do!
And to watch the awe inspiring beauty of Mother Nature at work. :)

Those are such joyful and uplifting things to see. I only wish that others could see it was we do. Then there'd never be any need to protect the earth or her creatures, because we'd all be living harmoniously together. :)

Oh I love National Geographic!!! :) I especially like going to old book shops and buying second hand copies when I'm on holiday. :) Thanks for the link melodious. I've added a link for greenpeace international. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I've been a supporter of Greenpeace Australia for over a decade now and I greatly admire them the work that they do and I'm a regular financial contributor. Anyway, there are details there for the Big Blue March for Whales on May 27th. It's fairly simple. Just have to show up in a blue t-shirt and be counted. :)

Anyway, nice to hear and share your views. :)

I'll look forward to seeing you about in the future. :)

You see we already have a common bond to get to know each other Jeanie. I am honored and this tree is down in petrified forest located between calistoga and santa rosa, on petrified forest road. She is a lovely canopy.

This tree endures time and yet grows. I find her magnificent. I am glad you enjoyed me eye....

see, Jeanie, funny how universe can attract complete strangers to kindred appreciations.

the picnic for the tree idea spawned an idea for me as well, i been trying to come up with a theme to get people together for a picnic at lake mendocino..

i thought of bringing folks together for the typical causes, immigration, war, police state, etc...etc...but maybe a picnic for love and celebration would be a great idea...

i say this because although an idea of a great peaceful rally seems romantic, do i really wanna invite a bunch of people bearing signs and banners to a redwood forest? i think that could be kind of counter-productive and a bit dismissive of purpose for my intentions...(as well as offensive to beauty trees and magesitc russian river)

well, today, is a famiy reunion, i am apprehensive about going, but all my support network says i should go even though they are like an army of wmd's...lucky i will have my own soldiers with me...my daughter and lil spawn....

peace jeanie....love to you...thanks for taking a step...

Yes! There's been a bit of that universal attraction and connectedness happening in my life of late melodious. It's quite a blessing. :)

How calming and empowering to bring people together in such a beautiful natural setting to just connect with each other and nature?
Imagine the power of positivity that it would give everyone. :)
Probably more empowering to help everyone find their centredness and connectedness again. Certainly the flow on would be highly beneficial to help recharge people to then go out and support the causes that are important. :)

Family reunions are like minefields!! Just try to stay calm melodious and remember that how these people see you is not necessarily who you are. And if you have faith in yourself then they can do you no harm emotionally.
Be proud and happy and don't let them drag you into their vortex.
Good luck, keep your little soldiers close. :)

    er, whales...
I've got to wonder if they came into the fresh water as some sort of healing remedy. Maybe the rough scaly skin is what they are after. Kind of like building up a thicker scab over the wounds.

Hope fading as wayward whales showing signs of distress

    By Marcus Wohlsen
    Associated Press
    Published May 24, 2007

RIO VISTA, Calif. -- Hope dimmed Wednesday for two lost, wounded whales as scientists spotted the humpbacks wildly slapping their tails on the water in possible distress as they lingered far from the ocean.

Deep cuts on the mother whale and calf, likely caused by a run-in with a boat, were worsening after more than a week in fresh water that the pair are not physically well-equipped to inhabit, biologists said.

"I wouldn't say there's a lot of optimism right now," said Brian Gorman, a spokesman for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

For a third day, the whales frustrated efforts to herd them past a Sacramento River bridge about 70 miles from the Pacific, where they have lingered since Monday. They first were spotted in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta on May 13.

Biologists would not estimate how long the whales could survive in the delta but said the tail-slapping behavior, called "lobbing," was cause for concern.

"The whales were fairly quiet for a period of days. Then they weren't so quiet. So the question is, why have they changed?" said Trevor Spradlin, a NOAA whale biologist.

Boat crews resumed playing underwater recordings of humpbacks feeding to try to coax the whales downriver when startling them by banging on metal pipes failed to work Wednesday morning.

If the feeding sounds are not effective, scientists planned to try a new scare tactic -- playing recordings of orcas, also known as killer whales, attacking a mother whale and her calf.

The biggest concern remained the wounds on both whales, especially a 3- to 4-foot cut on the calf's side.

The freshwater environment was taxing the whales, turning their skin from its normally smooth, shiny texture to rough and pitted. The stress of that continued exposure "may be impeding their natural healing abilities," Spradlin said.
