the interim chancellor seems to have it right. you can't get a good idea of anything from the videos. all I could make out was a guy screaming and yelling about the patriot act, which would lead me to believe he was being confrontational just for the sake of it. the original poster referring to cops as "pigs" shows to me at least what a fucking idiot he is. race aside, patriot act aside, you don't have the right to be in a college library if you don't have a college id. period. it seems he was asked for the id and decided to make an ass out of himself.

Wouldn't employing a late-shift library assistant, checking Library membership ID on entry, have sufficed, then?

the police are supposed to serve the people and set a standard...

and would it had been to much to ask that idiot student to show some respect to those officers and just say....

"sure officer i will show you my identification"

If they were checking everyone else's library ID, maybe. Otherwise, hell no, fuck them.

So, show your ID or run the risk of excessive force? That's not very civilised, is it? I thought policemen served the people, and set a moral highground and a standard of orderly behaviour? If the police behave like savages, then they set a precedent for anarchy.

Don't get me wrong, I support the notion of the police very strongly in principle and in some degree of practice. But the police should not be trained in some unthinking, crypto-militaristic fashion, to treat every scene of social disorder like a siege. Whether the student's act of civil disobedience broke laws or not, the policemen in this situation should have considered (a) means of damage limitation, and (b) all alternatives for resolution possible, using a taser not as a pre-emptive measure but in response to an evident attempt at physical attack.

Why are tasers issued to rent-a-cops, anyway? They're hardly on the streets of South Central LA, are they?

theres more to the story then we know. tape doesnt show much at all.

dont show your ID, act like an asshole, dont do whats asked of you muiltiple times, and run the risk or force. excessive sure, but the student could have avoided it.

campus police, in large campuses like UCLA, have regular police officers with guns, tasers, mace, handcuffs, full nine yards.

you dont know why he was asked to show ID, or even if other students have to.

why do individuals consistently make things, life so hard on themselves??

the entire situation could have been avoided if the student had
done what was asked of him.

agree or not, when a person in a position of authority asks you
for proper identification, you should comply. its pretty simple.

sounds like this situation got out of hand pretty quickly

imagine yourself as a mute person driving down a lonely hiway---maybe nevada or utah---you are on your family vacation and so you decided to take the toyota or another small car for the trip. Yes. you have a humV, but becasue of the distance you travel, you choose the older model toyota...Along the way, you have many unforeseen mechanical problems and so you get out your McGyver pack and fix it all...Well, in the meantime a great gust of wind comes along and blows all your personal papers off the dash board; but at least you kow you are a citizen of this fine country and you have leeway to travel anywhere you wanna go....Still we have these constitiutional checkpoints at every major intersection..As you travel through to the checkpoint, you realize you don't have your id with you and you can't talk...the attendents ask you for your id, but you can't explain what happened and by now you look all greasy and dirty, your clothing has become tattered becasue you had to fix your repairs...they ask you and you try to motion that you are a mute, but they (the professional authorities) think you are being difficult....of course they could not know you are a mute; so they start thinking you are uncooperative.....gee...i wonder what happens next...

the point of all of this is that we are a people, that can unite together and stop this motion....you have to get out of realizing your own surroundings and try to create scenarios where you are the outstanding actor....of course i don't think any of this will happen to me; i was born and bred in amerika...but as a person who is reaching middle age, i have seen so many liberties taken away...do you really wanna be herded like a sheep? do you really wanna live in cocrete and asphalt? well, i just dunno, it seems to me that if each human being would just resepct their individuality, we might have a chance....

I don't know exactly what happened with this incident. But I have a few questions.

    1) Is it required that all persons who intend to enter and utilize the library, have their ID on their....person?

    2) If so, why didn't the student in question have his ID on his person? Was he purposely trying to instigate an incident? Or did he lose or forget his ID?

    3) Did the Police/Campus Officers in question ask any other students to show their ID, or did they single-out this one specific student and request to see his ID, only?

    4) Did the student really resist/refuse to leave the library? Or did the Officers actually physically prevent him from leaving the premise despite their verbal instructions for him to vacate the Library?

Do what the racist cops abusing their power horrifically tell you to and they won't hurt you. Fuck that. You're a fucking facist for even thinking the cops are in the right in this incident.

Oh and I'm sure that kid and his family cut heads of reporters off on a daily basis you fucking cunt.

    Those cops should be hanged.

    from what i have gathered....

    1)...yes I.D. is required.....
2)...student is using the race card.....saying he was singled because he is iranian....
3)...according to what i have read the campus police check students I.D's daily......
4)...i read where the student actually laid himself on the floor refusing to leave......

again this is what i have read......i am not sure what is true and what is not true..............
