Yes, both flags might get your there mobile burned to the ground, but many people died so we can say what we want and fly what ever flag we want. Your freedom is getting to tell the guy he is an asshole!!!

Yes and no. You don't have the freedom to fly a hate speech flag. If you flew a flag that said "Kill the Jews" the government could and would force you to take it down.

The line is muddy, and for these flags (confederate and swastika), it's an often-tested area. So far, the courts are saying it is protected speech. But again, in this case that the OP is talking about, no one is trying to take it down. It's just that he or she is saying they find it offensive.

I think a few of these fly outside the homes of a few fellow MTers. :)

the home owners assoc. will NOT ALLOW THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...YES THE THE STARS AND STRIPES...OLD GLORY... to be flown from the front of the house or on display in the front yard...it can be flown from the rear, but there is a size limit.....

so i think your trailer park confederate flag is pretty much a mute point...

and no, the confederate battle flag it is not a symbol of racism to everyone...some people on here have family who fought and died in the civil war...so irregardless of whether you believe in the cause, you have to respect the fact that these people fought and died for a cause they believed strongly in (right or wrong) and they should have right to show honor to their fallen family members...and please don't throw the swastika bullshit in my face...i'm just making a point....

Kinda brings up a good point, in some high end area's the Homeowners Ass. has rules people agree to when they buy the house. The same rules could be used in a mobile home park. But must already be in place or agreed by current residents.

I have Jr. High kids who like to spray the Nazi symbol on everyone's fence, the city has a law against graffitti (sp?) in the city, so as home owner I have to go buy paint and cover it up. My block is so pissed we started covering up with really bright neon colors, and we take our brush and go directly over the lines, so all it does is make the graffetti bigger, childish yes, but city isn't doing anything to stop these kids, and if I don't paint over I get $200 fine. This way I get No fine.

Put up an Obama 08 sign, a rainbow flag, a swastika, a French flag, a Chinese flag, a Soviet (ole' sickle and hammer) flag, and maybe a "I hate Jesus" sign too just to be sure.

But really, I would personally be bothered by her flying this flag just as you are... but she has a right to fly it. There are much more important things in this life. People in this country could focus on much more important issues if they wouldn't get "offended" at anything and everything.
All the rusted signs, we ignore throughout our lives, choosing the shiny ones instead...

Who cares, it's just a flag. It's not like it say's "die blacks" on it. That would be a bit wrong.

and yes to the person who asked the nazi flag question. A person should have the right to fly that flag.

It's also better right? then you know who the racist fools are, otherwise it just get's hidden away. and what, you think bcoz someone has no nazi or confederate flag flying outside means they are not racist? some of them are probably even more racist. like i said, they just like to hide it. which is worse to me, I say let it out. get it in the open.

why are people so scared about that?

Also you see any American flags around? does it bother you? I mean more death and destrcution has happened under the American flag, more blood has been shed under it then the conferderate flag. So why are you not ready to burn the red, whit and blue? Or are you?

Invite her over and watch this movie Neo Ned (2005). A movie about in life one can make some interesting connections. Who knows you could make one with her.
Like most kids, Ned idolized his father and dreamed of following in his footsteps. Unfortunately, his father was a two-bit crook who spent most of his life in jail. Without a family of his own, Ned falls in with the Aryan Brotherhood. Soon after, Ned is placed in a mental hospital where he is mesmerized by a young black girl who believes Adolf Hitler was reincarnated in her. What follows is a gritty character study and poignant love story of two people brought together by a seemingly impossible connection. As a result of that connection, they both find that there is more to a person than what is on the surface

many years ago at a random college party, i remember being in a room passing a joint around with 5 guys who i just met, 3 were black, 2 were white, and there was a huge piece of tapestry showing confederate soldiers and the words "THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!" and despite my initial confusion, everything was cool.

This last part is a little off topic, but the flag burning issue fascinates me. There are those who say you shouldn't have the right to burn the US flag. The primary argument is that it is a desecration of a symbol. That somehow, the act of burning the flag weakens it. I think this is completely wrong. If anything, by having the right to burn the flag, you are strengthening the symbol that is the flag.

While I would personally not burn the flag, I think the right to burn it is one of the most obvious symbols of free speech itself. What is a more clear and direct demonstration against the state than the burning of a flag? To take away that right by constitutional amendment would be a defeat to free speech itself. The ultimate irony.

I think you're not allowed to desecrate your flag because you pledge allegiance to it as an American citizen. In Canada, we pledge allegiance to the Queen and the head beaver. (only half of that last sentence was true)

I personally don't understand why anyone flys any flag over their house. It doesn't make you any more "American" to do that (nor "Southern" if that's the case). You RARELY see that in Canada at private residences. In fact, most often in Canada you will see Canadian flags flown next to an American flag...by former Americans who feel the need to fly both flags instead of just the SSB.
  • how old is she?

just talk to her not about the flag so you can get a feel of who she is, it might be she likes it, finds it pretty, believes in it or...

you can fly your own flag or check rules/guidelines on flags in the park or like the moving train begin a long reasoned debate, not all at once but every now and again have discussions in the park, u will meet your neighbors and learn about them

now y do u live in a trailer park?

    Right on,

Also the same people who are against flag burning..they are the same people who go stick american flag stickers on their cars bumpers, only to have birds shit on it and the sun burn it away.

Just before the Iraq war started I was at an anto war rally in Florida with some friends..anyway We had a giant american flag upside down. This pro war lady runs up to us and starts yelling "how dare you hold, the FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, like that..Go to Iraq and hold their flag upside down"

    lmao!!!! anyway...
  • didnt read all the posts, but here is an idea that may not have been mentioned, buy a confederate flag and hang it inverted.

nothing better than being passive aggressive, haha.

wait.....that flag doesnt go upside down does it?

  • In my NYC neighborhood during the '70's there was a biker gang *not the well known one* that hung both confederate and nazi flags from the fire escape of the building they occupied. No one bothered them about it nor did the police, so I believe it is lawful to do so. Additionally, it was mixed group w/ black, white, hispanic and Jewish men. Different strokes for different folks, I guess

Of course, I just found out I was spreading lies on another thread about how many calories are in a Red Lobster biscuit, so someone may want to actually confirm the pirate flag claim as well. ;) It's just what I heard. :)

I see them all the time in CA. After Pirates of the Carribean came out, there was a resurgence of pirate culture, and lots of people think it's snazzy to have a skull and cross bones on their boat.
