What a hypocrite! Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot, huh, Newt? Yes, dumping your wife when she's on a hospital bed, having affairs and not paying child support should not be taken into account when running for president. Stay in the race, dude. I would love to see you waste your money.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said in Nashville that the personal lives of White House hopefuls shouldn't become an issue in the 2008 campaign.
Earlier this month Gingrich said he was seeking forgiveness for his own extramarital affair committed while he pursued President Clinton's impeachment in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Since the announcement, Gingrich said he's received a positive response from colleagues and others.
He's considering a race for the presidency.*Gingrich was in Nashville Tuesday night to speak at Vanderbilt University.

If I needed to hate Christianity, this guy would be my poster child. It's enough that he's one of the best personifications of what's wrong with American politics today.

I don't want anyone to be surprised if a year from now the Republican nomination is between Rudy and Newt. These two guys have a lot of supporters and money to take it. :( The current Republicans love Newt. He's a smarter GWB.

    We're fucked. :(

This is the most fucked thing about Christianity, this forgiveness shite. They can do whatever they want cos afterwards you cna just ask for forgiveness.

Now forgiveness has a great role in life, but this is such a cop-out and an abuse of teh whole idea.

What a tool. This is a great example of the complete shit both parties have as standard bearers for their "sides". This is going to be one ugly primary season.
  • He is a hypocrite but so are the others. Everyone has skeletons in the closet and most politicians have done some fucked up things. And even you hadn't done some fucked up things the other side would drag up some shit from high school or college that you were involved in. It's the nature of the beast unfortunately.

I agree. No bringing up personal lives. But the moment he uses "family values" or suggests that his opponent has lacking character, go after the fucker and go after him hard. Clinton smoked weed and cheated...that's nothing. Smear him like nobody's been smeared.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

DO matter. While everybody still seems to love Bill Clinton (except for me), I felt that his personal life certainly got in the way of politics, to our detriment. Other countries look at our President as our country's leader. If he's a loose, immoral moron, it makes us look like crap. If he's a Democrat and the Republicans pull him before a jury and make him swear under oath that he didn't touch "that woman", and he lies, he commits perjury and we look even crappier. *Edit* And if he's a Republican who gleefully swore that men like Clinton should not be President, all the while having an affair of his own -- or a presidential hopeful who embarrassed the hell out of his wife and kids while making his mistress a public figure -- that looks shitty too.

Personal lives shouldn't be issues when it comes to candidates smearing each other over the course of a campaign, but when you step into that White House, have some decency, for crying out loud.

GWB lowered the bar as low as it will go. No matter who the next president is it would be hard to be worse than the worst POTUS ever.

    Good Luck Candidates.

He hasn't cheated on his wife (or, at least, he hasn't been caught), but he, too, is an embarrassment. Other countries look to us as being led by an illiterate cowboy who's a real hell-raiser. Yee-Haw! And while he used to snort coke and drink like a fish and he dodged the draft, he's now seen God, so...hell, yeah, he's a good man now.

...and before y'all say it, I'll say it for you: Yes, Obama snorted and he smoked weed in his teens. Okay. But he moved on from that, and he's moved on and up rather well.

no it doesn't, becos nobody gave a shit that clinton cheated on his wife. around the world, they laughed at how prudish we were about it and wondered why it was such a big deal. most of them didnt give a shit, having a mistress is common practice out there.

Exactly. Gingrich and company used the affair as a tool to halt any of Clinton's initiatives the rest of his term. They didnt give a crap about his affair or perjury -- now it seems things will come full circle on this asshole.

Gingrich preaches dialogue, blasts guerilla ads
    By Sam Youngman
    March 21, 2007
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) blasted a new ad that exploded in the blogosphere this week, calling it the “‘Entertainment Tonight’ version of governing a great country.”

The ad, which plays off an Apple Computer commercial and portrays Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in a negative light, may have been posted originally by an anonymous supporter of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). It has created the biggest buzz of any ads of the early election season thus far.

While Gingrich, speaking to the Independent Women’s Forum at the National Press Club, described the ad as “clever,” he also said it was harmful to a national dialogue and an impediment to problem-solving.

“It is utterly, totally destructive of the process of thought,” Gingrich said.

The former Speaker went on to challenge whomever becomes a presidential nominee to engage in weekly 90-minute discussions with his or her counterparts from other parties, beginning Labor Day of 2008 and continuing through Election Day.
Gingrich continues to poll well nationally, and many conservatives, unhappy with the top tier of Republican presidential candidates, are hoping he will enter the race.

Gingrich said after the meeting at the press club that he won’t consider a run until after Sept. 30, but in response to an audience question, he did say a Gingrich administration would be “very open, very fact-oriented” and with as little partisanship as possible.
