Assuming i've got this straight, because Obama is an African-American, Nader says he has to do "the number one thing that a black American politician" should do? according to whom, Ralph? You?
He's disappointing because he doesn't live up to your stereotype of a "black American politician"?

Well ralph, i guess that's one way to get media attention. To say i'm disappointed that you would say that is a huge understatement.

That is sort of how I took I. I wonder if next he is going to criticize John McCain for not talking more about overcrowding at country clubs.

Or long lines at the Pharmacy picking up his Viagra...oh wait, that's Bob Dole...the other really old, white guy the Repub. ran for pres. and had no shot of winning. Don't get me wrong, both seem like good guys, but it's time for the party to move forward. And after many years of moving in the wrong direction, I don't want baby steps, I want a leap.

Not that I'd ever vote for the guy, but you might want to keep your eye on current LA governor Bobby Jindal. He's being bogged down right now by a state legislature pay raise bill he's refused to veto, but it's nothing serious. The guy's young, smart, charismatic, speaks well, and is creepily conservative - perhaps a bit too far right socially for many Republicans, especially after Bush, but perfectly capable of down-playing it when expedient.

Of course, the real question is, is America ready for a president that named himself after a character from The Brady Bunch?

I'll check him out...but socailly conservative is where I'd like a leap forward. And I love the Brady Bunch, so that's a huge plus in my book.

Anyhow, back on topic...Nader's racist and Obama's an Uncle Tom...talk amongst yourselves.

Not that you couldn't find it yourself, but here's the Wiki article on Piyush "Bobby" Jindal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Jindal

He's very anti-abortion, not a fan of gays (calls it support of "traditional marriage"), loves him some more PATRIOT Act style legislation, wants intelligent design in schools, all about the ol' time religion, and has a conservative (rather than conservationist) postion on the environment. Basically, someone I'd have to be threatened at gun point to vote for; but Republicans love him, and conservative Democrats, while less than enthusiastic, are comfortable with him. There's even talk of him being McCain's VP candidate.

Still a little too green for the top of the ticket, though. I mean, Obama's been around longer than this guy, if that tells you anything.

I looked it up, and it sounds worse than it is. My initial thought was that the state would start searing peoples' genitals off with chemicals, but then learned it's more of a hormonal treatment. Still, a bit extreme if you ask me. Since when is locking people up in prison not enough?

i think i just heard the camapign ad.

"Ralph Nader promises to be the SECOND black president. Why vote for an Oreo Cookie, Uncle Tom House Slave like Obama when you can have the real deal with Ralph Nader."

The end cut to Ralph himself in full Al Jolson stlyle blackface chiming in with the familiar "I'm Ralph Nader, and I approved this message."

Honestly what kills me is how many people wanted to write Obama;s obituary over the words of someone else and here we have the candidate, Nader, himself uttering some dispicable nonsense like this, and his supporters nationwide, all eight of them, defend it. Oh, well.

Well that's good (and, since mentioning him earlier, I've learned even more and like him even less). However, he is frequently mentioned as a future "up and comer" in the Republican party - and his name does get floated around for a spot on the presidential ticket, either as VP for McCain or Pres sometime in the future.

Let's rewind a bit and consider my first post on Jindal as a warning on where the Republican party might be headed. But, hey, it would be a leap, right?

I hope he doesn't get the chance, but I think the VP position might be the safest place for this guy... He can't do a lot of harm there.

Heading in the wrong direction. That's why I had someone from the Democratic Party ring my doorbell last night and ask if I wished to vote early from home. I said I would just go to the polls....that never would have happened a couple of years ago, as they didn't want me going ot the polls.

It sad that I know get to choose between voting for someone that is going to steal a crapload of my earned $, someone that believes it's okay to disciminate against people who have different sexual preferences and always invoke the name of Jesus Christ our savior, and someone who has no shot at ever getting elected.

    Nader: Obama 'talking white'
    Posted: 02:45 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Nader is taking heat for his latest comments.
(CNN) — Ralph Nader's presidential candidacy has received little media attention, but his latest critique of Barack Obama has come under fire for it's seemingly racial overtones.

Speaking with Colorado's Rocky Mountain News, Nader accused Obama of attempting to both "talk white" and appeal to "white guilt" in his quest to win the White House.

maybe nader's just senile. it's possible, no? could explain alot.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."

"Obama's main opponent in this election on November 4th (was) not John McCain, it (was) ignorance."~Michael Moore

What has Nader said that is senile according to you? What would it explain exactly?

I have said I didn't like what he had to say in this interview but it was simply words choosen out of frustration and while they may have some truth to them, it's not the whole truth and shouldn't be put out there as if it was. But he didn't say anything that resembled being senile.

He's either senile, a closeted racist who accidentally left the door ajar, or using an inflammatory statement to get attention. I dont know which is worse. Kinda sad but yet another chip in his moral armor.

Or he just phrased something badly. It happens. But the media only focuses on Nader when he screws up in whatever way - where are they the other 99% of the time?

I dont believe he mispoke. Found this today and it's rather sad they bothered with this weak argument --->

"By the way, there are many definitions of "talking white." Here's our definition, from the Nader/Gonzalez dictionary:

Talking white means telling the white corporate power structure what they want to hear, rather than calling them out and telling them what they need to hear."

I'm not grasping, I posted Nader's own words which are unbelievable. But I'd rather be grasping than be delusional like some people. I know its hard to admit Nader's a huge fraud. Seems like you'll be voting for the lesser of three evils now which is against what you wanted to do in this election. If getting angry at me for showing Nader for the shuckster he is helps you cope then by all means get nasty towards me, I can handle it.

Obama has about 95% support in the african american community and will get 95% of the african american vote in november

Exactly and I have already said that I don't agree with Nader here. But I also don't see this as some big deal, either

such a racist that he picked someone w/ the last name Gonzalez to be his running mate

can anyone explain how what he said is even racist? especially when compared to ppl on this board like RainDog who make a huge deal out of him being the first black president???

it;'s not like nader changes his vote or waters down bills after receiving $100's of thousands of $ from the credit card and nuclear industry
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

Maybe he likes hispanics but not blacks? Maybe he's not racist but just crazy.

I bet Nader has money right now invested in Citibank and the nuclear industry because that is how Nader lives his life -- in hypocrisy.

First black president is an historical milestone. "Talking White" is an age old way of disparaging well spoken, successful blacks. Now, why the call out?

How could he? The guy holds no office.

Now, let's all ask El_Kabong about how great it is to live in that color-blind society he apparently resides in, and that the rest of us can only dream of.
