Vodka in place of milk? that's crazy. We Poles prefer using vodka as a toothpaste substitute :)

i believe pointing out that liberals own racism is pointing out the truth :)

it is clear as day that you are a racist b/c you brought out the rush "magic negro" card even though you KNOW that he was mocking leftist racists. and when presented with the facts, you run with your tail hidden between your legs. i could say it once, or a million times, you own racsism, sexism, and all the other isms. the left owns hatred.

please. the klan that byrd was involved with was not the crazy, militant, violent klan that existed before his time and again later. there have been several incarnations of the klan. also, when you grow up in a place where all your family belongs to something, and it seems like just a social club, why wouldn't you want to be part of what everyone else is? it's not like he was out terrorizing people in his cloak and hood. senator byrd is a great senator and has done amazing things for west virginia. he should be celebrated as a highly influential, great man, not cut down for some mistake he has more than made up for.

Wouldn't it be nice if all political affiliations were held to this standard on this board?

if you believe that one political point of view "owns" hatred, then you are as close minded as the people that you speak about.

Once again my favorite conservative radio shtick of pointing out a negative attribute that is equally prevalent on both political sides, and attributing it only to one side works beautifully on slow news days...

and no one should need it, when it comes down to parties.

The Republicans and the Democrats, and the Libertarians and all the other parties in America, should not be spewing hatred, PERIOD.

If our own country cannot stand united over freedoms that were given to us 200 years ago, how the hell can we try to spread our so called Democracy to other countries?

If we have to stand divided between two parties all the time, here in the US, how can we have the nerve to talk to other countries about peace and fair play?

Isn't it time we, as Americans, simply unite and be Americans?

We are always going to be divided. Different people have different ideas of just how much freedom their neighbor deserves.

    uhh...yeah :)

what's insane is that those of us polarized in the electorate, are passionate, and concerned about reality, while those polarized in government are passionate about their own political power. I don't see the public as polarized as we're made out to be.

true, but it just seems odd quoting someone who had so much hatred...like quoting hitler or pol pot...the word kkk kinda biases things

    wasn't he a slave trader??

In 1869, Forrest, disagreeing with its increasingly violent tactics, ordered the Klan to disband, stating that it was "being perverted from its original honorable and patriotic purposes, becoming injurious instead of subservient to the public peace." Many of its groups in other parts of the country ignored the order and continued to function. Subsequently, Forrest distanced himself from the KKK.

Because I'm not polarized at all about any of this "Republicans today said THIS about blah" and "Democrats today said THAT about bleh".

We're a country that's swiftly being taken as being idiotic, round the globe.

Who the fuck cares who said what anymore? Just get us to where we have our pride back, thank you. And get us to where we can give to other countries who are in need - and WANT - of our help and interference.

Is that so much to ask?

something i'm not very concerned about, i don't like the idea of setting policy to be liked. i'm more about doing what's right, and when it comes down to pandering...that's probably not doing what's right.

speaking of which...gotta hand it to the French this week :)

and we (used to) have a lot of great ideas about true democracy.

And our kids and their kids, and the kids in other countries, deserve to know what true democracy could have been like.

Because reason should rule this planet, and for a little while longer, it might have a chance.
