Sparked by an insurgency among delegates, the California Democratic Party has taken an historic step forward on the issue of impeachment. In a resolution affirmed by the full state party convention Sunday, the Democrats called on the U.S. Congress to use its subpoena power to investigate misdeeds of President Bush and Vice President Cheney - and to hold the Administration accountable "with appropriate remedies and punishment, including impeachment." The delegate insurgency was coordinated by Progressive Democrats of America and its allies.
While Speaker Pelosi had declared impeachment "off the table," the Democratic Party rank-and-file has demonstrated its commitment to putting the issue "on" the table. And it's no longer just the rank-and-file: Even among the members of the convention's Resolutions Committee (appointed by the California Party chair), the impeachment resolution was the top vote-getter (tied with one other resolution).
Coming on the heels of mass actions and resolutions across the country in support of impeachment, and Congressman Dennis Kucinich's introduction of Articles of Impeachment against Cheney, this action by the powerful California Democratic Party builds on the pro-impeachment momentum.
The resolution refers to Bush and Cheney having acted in a manner "subversive of the Constitution" by ...
using false information to justify the invasion of Iraq
authorizing "the torture of prisoners of war"
"authorizing wiretaps on U.S. citizens without obtaining a warrant"
"disclosing the name of an undercover CIA operative"
suspending "the historic Writ of Habeas Corpus by ordering the indefinite detention of so-called enemy combatants"
"signing statements used to ignore or circumvent portions of over 750 Congressional statutes"
The resolution ends by calling for "vigorous investigation" and "appropriate remedies and punishment, including impeachment."
PDA Director Tim Carpenter said: "This was an example of the Party grassroots speaking its mind, and the Party officials responding to the call. This action represents the successful culmination of PDA's one-month, eleven-city barnstorming tour across California - aimed at putting impeachment and ending the occupation of Iraq at the top of the Party's agenda."

speaking of wasting money.

That site is kind of funny. Not the figure up top...that is not funny at all. The things that they try to compare it to are such emotional issues, the reaction they are trying to get is extremely transparent.
of course they're emotional, but it would be nice if we took care of our own country every once in a while.
I agree with you. Not with that money of course but private charity which could be supplemented nicely by returning a bunch of the money on that site to the tax payers.
you guys answer to everything is the exact same. "charity and the market"
it is almost funny at this point
i am not relying on a charity to build my childrens school.
You're right. The government does a great job at all of this. Most education funds to build schools comes from state and local government money anyway. You aren't paying much in state taxes to this total for the war.
ha ha...I know...great point...
Yeah, private companies do a great job of controlling prices...insurance costs, prescription drugs, and medical care is very affordable for the average family....
And the government does a great job of regulating all of these things to help keep the cost down. Tort reform and re-importation were Pelosi's greatest achievement thus far.
Why not. They couldn't do it any worse with any more waste. Just think what a nice school you'd have if you could use all the money they are spending on impeachment and other grand standing.

which i bet pales greatly in compairson to the amount of money we've sunk into this occupation

Government waste does not discriminate by department.
nope, but they can still have different amounts and i think this is by far greater than what will be 'wasted' on impeachment

Aren't a bunch of hearings with no result except making some extremists feel all excited a waste as well? The Clinton impeachment was a waste too. I had to throw that in an attempt to keep the logic-free arguments about blow jobs out of this thread.
There are those of us who feel he should be impeached so obviously it's not a waste to us. There's a lot of damage you add onto your resume in a year and a half. Do you think we should take away the ability to impeach altogether? cause if ever there was a reason to....

What's wrong with looking at emotional issues? And what exactly is soooo transparent? Trying to get people to care about and be aware of things that should be brought to light and deserve more attention and compassion?? The bastards!!

No but there is a chance for some sort of punishment. A year is not much time for all of the evidence to be heard and a final decision to be handed down by the House. Even if the house voted to impeach, the Senate would take a while figuring out whether or not to remove him from office. Jan. 21, 2009 is not that far away. This is why it is a waste of money and energy.
When you use the word "should" you are highlighting the transparency of their agenda. Looking at that number rising and then looking down and seeing what else is there, they have no intentions of saving money. The only intention that website and many people on this board seem to have is to shift the money to different bureaucrats.
Looking at better ways to spend our tax money other than throwing it away on a pointless war doesn't seem so horrible to me. I would rather use the money for things, that to me, would be helpful and contructive.

Better to waste money to object to these things than to silently say it's okay.
I can agree with you on that. Impeachment hearings do not achieve this goal. Tax cuts do achieve this goal although I don't consider that spending money.
Amen! It's all waste if you ask me...or at least somewhere above 90% of it.

That's always nice to see a witch hunt to get people who have nothing concrete to do with what you are complaining about in the first place. I love constructive uses of our tax dollars.
So we divert funds from the war for a few hours...
....best few hours America ever spent IMO...

i'd say more accountability than 'witch hunt'
our whole system has failed us, the majority of blame DOES land on the administrations shoulders but that doesn't excuse pretty much everyone else rolling over and doing nothing

Barack and Hilary and others are essentially planted undercover republicans imo...whether they even realize it yet or not. Out of the 8...six are absolutely terrrible choices.
Kucinich or Gravel are the only intelligent and morally correct choices. Of that... Kucinich
...all the rest are essentially the exact same pieces of shit standing in a different pile
This thing needs a serious overhaul...not just a new coat of paint.
