"The use of campaign funds for items which most Americans would consider to be strictly personal reasons, in my view, erodes public confidence and erodes it significantly," John McCain, on the Senate floor.

First of all, from what i hear the Palins are worth a little over a million or so..I could be wrong but if true, I'm not buying the frugal spending..especially when her husband is involved with oil.

The point isn't that they paid that much in stupid clothing...it's the fact that their campaign totes about how they're going to clean up washington and then goes ahead and spends 150 large on clothes and thousands more on hair and makeup. Mccain talks about unneccesary spending and then stuff like this is what makes people not believe them.

....i will say though that this is at the bottom of the list of things that's wrong with the GOP ticket.

controversy surrounds the AP, it can't be considered "THE" source for news. It's actually a pay source. check it out on wikipedia ;)

That fact aside... if it -is- true (and it might be)... you'd be a fool to think that the Dems don't spend money on trivial crap like that. If you think BO's suits come from Target you are mistaken. Why did he take the official airplane to Hawaii? Couldn't he fly United and pay for it himself like everyone else?

vedderlution-- my point is-- don't believe everything you read on the internet AND for everything negative you read about one side, there are equally negative things to be found about the other side.

    It's all a circus.

This story is stupid, and is just fodder for the political junkies.

But, there is a difference with the examples that you mentioned. The money used for this wardrobe is money from taxpayers.

By opting out of federal funding, Obama is spending money given to him from donors who chose to do so.

    can you prove that?

when you google it, 1/2 of the results say no so it -could- be no, correct?

In 2000 I think %90 of news reported in the US came from the AP-the NY Times, Washington Post, almost all news outlets got their news from the AP...that's not a free press, that's the controversy. It has nothing to do with their credibility. The AP is probably the most accurate information in media. They have to be, so many news outlets pick up their stories...

this was just an example of the GOP pandering to the working class, while spending more on clothes than most working class Americans make in a year. Its a perfect example of the hypocrisy coming out of everything the GOP does. I don't think the dems are much better...but at least Obama has polices in mind that would benefit the working class...his tax plan for example benefits the majority, he plans on getting health care to everyone (which I need, being 1 of the 40 million without at the moment)...I hate this partisan bs, both candidates are corporate whores, but at least Obama has some domestic policies in mind that would affect me personally, in a good way.

we can agree on that. They both suck.

It's great that your life will improve if Obama wins.

Mine will be shittier. Which sucks.

Time will tell... see you back here in a year to compare notes. :)

Huffington post has conservative bloggers too. That article says nothing about styrofoam Greek columns that cost as much as Palin's clothes, nor does it say that Michelle Obama has spent as much as Palin has on her hairstylist (at least $22,000 in as little as two weeks) It just talks about Michelle and her stylist. Thanks anyway.

I don't think Barack Obama's campaign spends nearly as much as McCain's on clothes, certainly not $150,000. I think this picture proves my point.

    Obama the elitist I guess.

Good Job of echoing Brad Blakeman's talking points but there are a few problems with that argument. Obama can't just "fly United" when he has secret service and reporters with him at all times. A flight to Hawaii requires a large amount of fuel, so taking a small charter plane as Blakeman suggested wouldn't make sense with the amount of people traveling.

Obama going to see his dying grandmother which doesn't cost $150,000 vs. $150,000 on wardrobe and flights to Philadelphia for a hockey game, NY for SNL, and Alaska to testify about troopergate all non campaign functions traveled to on the campaign's dollar. Which is worse?
    A link for what?

The fact that MO uses a stylist? Google it, it's out there.

    the styrofoam pillars? google it.

I'd love to see a copy of Palin's 'receipts'... prove to me that she spent that much...it means nothing, dude.

No, the fact that the pillars cost as much as you say. I saw a link posted, but styrofoam pillars used for a campaign event that will be used multiple times is different than a Louis Vuitton bag for Palin's kid, high cost name brand clothes, and thousands spent on hair care. Show me where it says MO paid her hairstylist over 20,000 in two weeks alone. You don't need to see receipts when the RNC themselves released the figures! It does mean shit when McCain's whole platform has been based on how he's not a big spender and the other guy is. How he has the best interest of average middle class people like "Joe the Plumber and Joe Sixpack" and how Sarah Palin is just a hockey mom from a small town. It's their campaign contradicting themselves...dude
how do you know how much money they spent on clothes? Google told you? or was it yahoo news?Hype.

Yea...it's a conspiracy! Google and Yahoo News and Reuters and The AP and everyone else. They're all in on it. Trust no one man. It's just hype trust no one. Seriously though, in one post you say to "google it" at least twice to back up your claims, then a couple posts later you dismiss Google as hype. Confusing to say the least.
