Obama is using $600 million in private donations to buy the presidency. They have taken 270 million from undisclosed sources and there have been numerous election finance law violations that have occurred from fictitious and foreign donars. So yes, it is a bit much that palin spent that kind of cash on clothes...let's not forget that the DNC has prob spent a good chunk of change on obama / biden too. I'd be much more concerned about a candidate accepting funds in excess of the law and from sources that are illegal; but, we all know that the media really won't hold the Dems feet to the flame the way they will the GOP.

At least that money, however ill-gotten, is going towards the campaign, rather than shopping sprees. Economic crisis not hitting the Palin household so hard eh?

    'buy' the presidency.....love it.
while i don't believe it for a moment.....it's still waaayyyy better than stealing it as has been done in the past. :p

seriously, it is ridiculous that campaign or party funds are used to buy a candidate clothing. such funds should be spent on the campaign, not the individual. sure, 'clothes make the man'...or the woman in this case, but she managed to get where she is without a party-funded wardrobe in the past, i fail to see the necessity of it now. just more bullshit. didn't she just say god will make the right choice election day? so what do her clothes have to do with it? ;)

She came out and denied this stuff today. Go to any major news source to find a link.

WASHINGTON – Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, on whom the GOP has lavished $150,000 for designer clothes and beauty services, says her family shops frugally back home in Alaska and her favorite store is a consignment shop.

Purchases by the Republican National Committee at high-end department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus appeared in spending reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. They offered a stark contrast to Palin's image as a "hockey mom" who calls herself part of an average, middle-class American family.

"Those clothes are not my property. We had three days of using clothes that the RNC purchased," Palin told Fox News in an interview that aired Thursday night.

"If people knew how Todd and I and our kids shop so frugally. My favorite shop is a consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska, called Out of the Closet. And my shoe store is called Shoe Fly in Juneau, Alaska. ... It's not, you know, Fifth Avenue-type of shopping."

In one shopping spree for Palin, the RNC spent $75,062 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis. It also spent $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue and $4,902 at Atelier, a stylish men's store, and paid $92 for a romper and matching hat with ears for her infant son, Trig, at Pacifier, a Minneapolis baby store.

The McCain campaign reported paying $13,200 in September to celebrity makeup artist Amy Strozzi, who works on the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance." She was paid $22,800 for the first two weeks of October, nearly double what the campaign paid McCain's foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, according to a filing report.

Palin said the clothing purchased by the RNC would be returned or donated to charities.

It's not really a denial but more of a "This isn't how I usually work and we'll be giving it back".

I find one story where she denies they spent that much, another where she claims gender bias, and one (on Faux News) saying that it was $150,000, but $50,000 worth was returned after the convention, another $50,000 worth hasn't been worn yet, and the rest is being used by the Palins.

So which of these many explanations is the truth?

I don't know and I really don't care about the issue. As I've said in the five other threads about this type of stuff.... she looks hot.

the problem i have with it all is that back in 98 obama said he was for complete, full and timely disclosure of all campaign finances...now he uses the $200 loophole to not disclose all the records. But it seems now he's not for it; don't forget he said he'd take public funds, but has gone back on that too.

nope, biden and obama buy their own clothes. i know...how old fashioned! i mean, you betcha, why not spend over 3 times JOE THE PLUMBER'S annual salary in 2 months on clothes from those everyday middle american retailers over at SAKS 5TH AVENUE.

meanwhile michelle obama, that ELITIST, appears on tv wearing a 150 dollar dress. yeah, i guess she is a radical, compared to palin (or even compared to "first dude" todd, who got thousands of dollars in clothes as well).

did i ever say i supported and was happy that palin spent that money? No, so before you get your pants in a wad...don't 'make assumptions about me thinking it's ok that palin wasted that money on clothes.

and about michelle obama..a quick google shows this "The colorful Thakoon wrap dresses (here) Mrs. Obama has worn, and was applauded for wearing to her husband's convention speech, are priced around $1250 each. Mrs. Obama's favorite Chicago designer Maria Pinto, who crafted Michelle's convention speech dress (here) and pictured above, charges anywhere from $900-$5,000 for her dresses. Other Pinto pieces, like shirts and accessories, start at $300 each."http://gawker.com/5067474/fancy-obama-clothes-cost-literally-hundreds-of-dollars

so save the BS about inferring that the obamas aren't elitist EITHER. They make a shit load of money...not as much as mccain makes, but to try and classify the obama's or mccains as run of the mill americans is a joke.

if she wears tighter fitting clothes, she'll get the repressed evangelical vote. it's fairly simple.

  • wait, i thought it was the RNC that bought all the clothes. am i to believe that sarah palin went out on a shopping spree in NYC and personally bought $150,000 in clothes and whatnot?

I wonder if that was planned before the revelation of the $150,000?

i can't remember for sure, but i think i read somewhere that it's pretty routine that things like clothes that are bought during a campaign get donated, from both republicans and democrats.

WRONG!....a democrat would refuse to buy the fancy clothes....he/she would donate the money instead!

Petty (and I'm not even a Palin fan).

Michelle Obama uses a stylist... anthony dickey.

The dem's have done their share of 'questionable' spending... those greek columns supposedly cost just as much as Palin's clothes. They were styrofoam, too, and will sit in a landfill forever. A Britney Spears set designer designed it all and he isn't cheap.

blah, blah, blah, round and round we go...

    cough..bullshit..cough

So in order for her to look nice, the RNC needs to spend over $100,000 on her wardrobe? What about all the money that was spent on hair care and make-up. Is that being donated too? Her hair dresser was paid over $22,000 for two weeks of work in Oct alone. Sounds a little excessive to me. I guess she's gonna donate that $$$ too. The fact that Palin and McCain try to play like they identify with "Joe the Plumber and Joe Sixpack" is laughable. Hockey mom my ass.

    A link for what?

The fact that MO uses a stylist? Google it, it's out there.

    the styrofoam pillars? google it.

The internet is shit, dude. It's only worth what you make it to be. One can find links for anything... doesn't mean diddly.

I'd love to see a copy of Palin's 'receipts'... prove to me that she spent that much...it means nothing, dude.
