Morphine and heroin were all legal and unregulated. Hell cough syrup and soda pop was the shit because it contained cocaine. People could be it anywhere. When they realized the health risks and public dangers the government stepped in and made these products illegal and regulated.

The health risks with tobacco products are known, the public thinks they are a danger to non-users so why not make tobacco smoking products illegal.? The tobacco plants has other uses, they are just not as profitable. Yes, the tobacco companies would lose money, but they could take that advertising and educational money and put it to better us.

Love your signoff. I think I'll go give away some shoes.
Sure the tobacco industry will lose money, but then you will have thousands of people growing it in their basement and selling it by the ounce for huge profits. Next thing you know, criminal cartels will spring up to take advantage of the huge markup. Then, due to the incredible money to be made caused by prohibition, people will begin killing each other for control of territory and protection of product.
And after 30 years of this and millions of tobacco users/dealers in jail, you will still be able to by an ounce of tobacco.
Sounds like a great solution. I hear its worked fantastic with other undesireable substances.

Until we come up with a vaccine for the smoking addiction, we need to find a way to prevent people from starting. Yes, in this day and age, there are STILL people taking it up every day all over the world. Sooooo I have come up with what I consider to be a pretty simple solution... 'smoking permits'. You need a license to fish, own a dog, have a fucking tv... if you have a license to smoke and can't smoke without one, you can't buy them. Everyone who ALREADY smokes can apply for this permit and shops will still sell them, but only to people with a permit. If you don't have a permit, you can't buy them. If you can't buy them, you can't START smoking.

    What do yas think?

I had thought of a similar solution. Which is to stop selling cigarettes in stores and have the government distribute cigarettes to people that currently smoke. Perhaps at a declining rate.

  • Why not make people who don't smoke carry permits. If they are caught not smoking without a permit, make them fire one up right there on the spot. If that same person is again caught not smoking without a permit, make them buy and smoke a pack.

How about you make a decision? it's so addictive and dangerous that it needs to be outlawed. or, that it's not? and let biz owners let customers smoke where they want? i know capitalism IS the root of all evil...but comon, if it's not an illegal substance...big brother?

god bless the nanny state. the self-rightous that want to raise the minimum wage while raising their (ie teenagers) cig taxes at the same time. way to care for the under-class.
And you ask me what I want this year

I assume you'd need a permit for civil liberties with that?

Seriously though, the only reason people want smoking banned is that it's unpleasent for them. There's plenty of things I find unpleasent. Chav's, David Cameron, The President of the US, religion in general. But I'm not after the systematic removal of them all.

Smoking may be damaging to the smoker, but so are fatty foods and X-Games to their consumers and participents. What is this nanny culture? The State is either too big for you to do anything without them spotting you, or just small enough to fit in your pocket and go everywhere with you. Are we going to ban motorcycle riders because of the dangers they risk when on a bike? Will we put a legal limit on french fry servings to slow rates of heart disease? It'd sure save health costs too...
    Yes.

A vaccine to cure cigerette addiction? After about three days of cold turkey the nicotine is out of your system. That's really the easiest part of quitting. It's the psychological habit part that is the hardest to overcome...Eat- have a smoke, Drive- have a smoke, Sex-have a smoke, Drink-have a smoke. Smoking relieves stress and smoking is enjoyable. During the first two years of my non-smoking, I thought of it constantly, awake and asleep. I'd wake with a need for a smoke. It was a constant decision just not to do it. I do not believe a vaccine would have made it any easier. 4-1/2 years later I still miss smoking but have made a choice not to because I am a mom and my kid needs me around. That is the reason I don't smoke. I can appreciate how non-smokers think smokers reek because until I stopped, I could not tell how bad it really does smell. It is really mind over matter, just like any other kind of addiction. I do not think there should be a permit charged to smoke.

For the people who think this will solve the problem, let's just open up this country to more violence and more crime by effectively making smoking and buying cigs hard. Like Obi Once says, people will buy more and profit from it. Shoot, why don't we make people buy permits to buy alcohol - that shit causes more harm to people and families than smoking. Would I want my kisd to smoke - no- should he have that choice- yes! Government needs to get their noses out of more things and get back to doing what their priorities should be...

  • If you're serious about getting people to stop smoking then just ban it. I'm tired of the government taxing the hell out of something they tell us we're addicted to. Doesn't the government have any morality left? No.

Talk about being raked over the coals...
    Ehhh... it IS addictive!!!!!!!!

See I know the vaccine has been made... but how many years til it's approved and on the market? I'm saying UNTIL then there must be something more we can do to STOP young people from STARTING. If you have a permit and buy a carton and sell half, well you only have half of your allowance for the day. Most smokers wouldn't do this cos they hate to see other people start anyway. Yes, there will be some pricks but very very few. At least once you turn 18 you can't just walk into a shop and buy them no problem.

 Hang on a second, where did I say to BAN them outright? People who already smoke will STILL smoke. I'M a smoker and I'm addicted but I, as many other smokers I'm sure, would hate to see other young people becoming hooked... like I would to any other drug. It's nothing to do with it being 'unpleasant' Did you miss the lesson where they tell ya smoking kills???????????????????????????

Ah keep your fucking civil liberties... I give up. I live in a country where we actually give a fuck about eachother.
