If logic and reason and will power fail... that's just too bad really.
Tobacco farming is still subsidised by our government while the tobacco companies are paying billions to educate the public on the dangers of the use of thier products.
At some point if Americans want to remain a "free" country, they are going to have to take some accountability for thier own actions, failures, will power and ambition or lack therof.
My thoughts exactly........Just look at the failure of the 'War on Drugs'.
I do, however, find the vaccination idea interesting. The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance,

If I remember correctly, in Tybird's state, the legal age to purchase cigs is 19.The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance,

I see no problem with fining or arresting underage smokers..........or even fining their parents/guardians. This process does occur if parents knowingly allow underage drinkers to party at their house, and someone rats on them. All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. Sanity! Nice to see a post which isn't proposing more government restrictions or intrusions"I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

I only like my idea because part of it says "reduce the taxes" which in my state are like $2+ per pack. Which adds up to more than $150 a year.0 -

Yes, in this day and age, there are STILL people taking it up every day all over the world. Sooooo I have come up with what I consider to be a pretty simple solution... 'smoking permits'. You need a license to fish, own a dog, have a fucking tv... if you have a license to smoke and can't smoke without one, you can't buy them. Everyone who ALREADY smokes can apply for this permit and shops will still sell them, but only to people with a permit. If you don't have a permit, you can't buy them. If you can't buy them, you can't START smoking.
What do yas think?
If you're serious about getting people to stop smoking then just ban it. I'm tired of the government taxing the hell out of something they tell us we're addicted to. Doesn't the government have any morality left? No.

I think we need a permit for fat people...you have to have the permit to eat at Mcdonalds etc...after all that is the real killer in this country.“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” - Frank Sinatra0

I think you're high. The gov't shouldn't be telling people what to do, even if it is dangerous.0 -

Exactly. The solution is not to regulate every time you take a piss. The government that governs best governs least.0 -
This permit idea would also start a black market for people that didn't want to pay for the permit and for underage smokers“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” - Frank Sinatra0

Well i dare people to challenge the tobacco industry....so much money ivolved they would lobby that idea down very very fast....plus think of all the jobs the tobacco industry provides, just cause their product is harmful many people rely on them for jobs. Not only in cigarette manufacturing, but Kraft foods is owned by Phillip Morris and many others.... just a thought0

I'll say it again...
Why is the government taxing the hell out of something they tell us is bad for our health? If it kills us why not ban it? They're using addiction as a tool for profit... That's why."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

That and like i said its a huge industry, and the unemployment rate would skyrocket if it were shutdown. Tobacco companies own other non-tobacco companies too, so people would lose their jobs there too0 -

Because you'd have to ban alcohol, firearms, cheeseburgers etc. It's not the government's place to tell us what we can and can't do to ourselves but I do think it's ok for them to tax it if people want to buy it.“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” - Frank Sinatra0 -

Morphine and heroin were all legal and unregulated. Hell cough syrup and soda pop was the shit because it contained cocaine. People could be it anywhere. When they realized the health risks and public dangers the government stepped in and made these products illegal and regulated.
The health risks with tobacco products are known, the public thinks they are a danger to non-users so why not make tobacco smoking products illegal.? The tobacco plants has other uses, they are just not as profitable. Yes, the tobacco companies would lose money, but they could take that advertising and educational money and put it to better us.
Love your signoff. I think I'll go give away some shoes.SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.0
