Fox Guest Says Iranians are "Looking Forward" to the U.S. Taking Military Action Against Their Country
Reported by Melanie - January 15, 2007 - 221 comments
The third segment today (January 15, 2007) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Fox's "business news" program, was about the "hate America tour" Cavuto claimed that Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez have launched. Cavuto's guest was Ghazal Omid, an opponent of the Iranian government and the author of Living In Hell: A True Odyssey of a Woman's Struggle in Islamic Iran Against Personal and Political Forces.
For the duration of the segment, the chyron at the bottom of the screen read: "Iran and Chavez to Spend Billions to Spread Hate Against U.S."
While Hugo Chavez was included in Cavuto's teaser and in his intro, his discussion with Omid centered on Ahmadinejad and the influence Iran allegedly has on what's happening on the ground in Iraq. Toward the end of the segment, Omid said that recently she has, "been talking to people in Iran, on the street, and asking them what would happen if the U.S. strike Iran and they said, you, you know, we are looking forward to it..."
Cavuto interrupted: "What do you mean when they said they're looking forward to it? That they would retaliate themselves?"
Omid: "No. What people said, we're so fed up with this government that we know the opposition's merely a joke outside the country. They said we are happy to have the U.S. soldiers on our ground."
Comment: The supposed need to invade Iran is a theme that Cavuto is weaving through his show with more frequency of late but this is the first time one of his guests has insisted - as did some of those pushing for the Iraq invasion - that the citizens of Iran would welcome it. The wind blowing out of Fox News is becoming more and more ominous folks. Oh, and by the way Neil, what makes you any better than Ahmadinejad and Chavez? Seems to me you're spreading an awful lot of hate yourself.

Seriously... If I'm a poor ass country that needs a bunch of new shit... I'm looking for a way to get the idiot Americans to invade my country and pour their tax dollars into my pockets.
I'm making a nuclear device from bleach, old road flares and used kitty litter... and Mr. Bush... I'm going to sell it to 'terrorists'.
Come and get me.
Hail, Hail!!!
You obviously don't realize you don't need to provoke an invasion for that to happen.
Check our budget numbers...

We claim to be this highly advanced society out here... but, fuckin' aye... are we sometimes the stupidest fucking beings on the planet?
We've already lost 4 billion dollars in Iraq... I know it's relative... 4 billion out of 500 billion, it's like if you have 500 dollars in your pocket... would you notice if you lost 4 dollars? But, come on... 4 dollars and 4 billions dollars... that's pretty goddamn noticible... right? Losing 4 bucks means I lose one Big Mac Combo... 4 billion means I lose 13 Big Mac Combos... for everyone in America. Fuckin' aye.
Hail, Hail!!!
Iranians are looking forward to the U.S. taking military action against their country…Haha Ok.
As if Iran is one big collective conscious with all its citizens thinking the exact same way. Reminds me of the sweeping generalizations you hear about Americans.
Anyway I’ve heard there is a growing number of new generation dissidents in Iran who are sick of the oppression and censoring and all the other bullshit that people would naturally get sick of once they get a view of the outside world. I’m guessing Omid was talking with one of these peoples.
Either way these dissidents may get their wish before too long. I don’t think it’s any accident we just happen to have Iran flanked to the east and the west at the moment…
And to take on Iran....when 130,000 soldiers already cannot get the job done in Iraq...is a smart move?
Such a small, pissant town...leading the nation in Heroin addiction and murders. Go Baltimore!
As for Iran, it's only a matter of time.

No. I don't think it's a smart move. I just don't think it's an accident we happen to be there.
Unfortunately.....
I was pretty sure you didn't...but I understand what you are alluding to....it does seem a little tricky.....willing to bet Iran thinks that samething....fighting them would be much different than Iraq.....and worse......
I believe stupidest fucking beings may sometimes be confused with nicest fucking beings. It's relatively easy for folks from other countries to drag us through the mud simply because their respective countries do not have to intestinal fortitude to put themselves in the situations the United States does on a routine basis. Or maybe they don't possess the means? It's much easier for Americans to put up with the endless psychobabble about how evil we are because... Well, because we have all the balls to be concise about it(or atleast a vast majority of them). Most of those balls reside more often than not with no more than 50% of the country at that. We're a pretty unique country in that reguard seeing as most of the world considers our Democratic party slightly left of the Nazi's. And well, we all know how they feel about Republicans.
Ok, I've gone too far.

I believe without the modern day conservative train of thought the world would still be in the dark ages. So put that in your bowl of shredded wheat and piss in it.

That's your perception. That doesn't make it fact.
Yes, an option.
I'm sure the administration is well aware of this. I'm even aware of it and I'm just a stupid citizen. Discussing unity with the Shias is one thing..... Discussing it with the Iranians is quite another. Until Ahmadinejad puts away his incoherent jihadist rants about the destruction of Israel we'll never talk to them about anything. That inherently makes them more dangerous to us. To suggest Iran, at this point in time, would be more of a solution than the United States during this process is just absurd.
There's nothing wrong with being stern with people. The Iranian government is not our ally. Any country not an ally of ours striving for nuclear supremecy in the region deserves stern attention.

Funny because that is one of the recommendations made by the Iraq Study Group. It is they who recommend we engage Iran, diplomatically, to use their influence within the Shia community to bring them to the table to discuss national reunification in Iraq. The members of the study group seem to believe that any cooperation between the US and Iran on this issue may lead to some discussion and maybe a resolution in regards to Iran's nuclear ambitions. Doesn't sound so absurd to me.
Recommendations are not policy. Who cares what some study group suggest we do? It's a great idea because you agree with their concept. Anyone can put together a group of intellects and conjure up a list of "perfect solutions." If Iran would simply stop the holocaustual rhetoric and stop pulling a "Saddam" with his nuclear weapons programs we would probably be more than intent on discussing a resolution for Iraq. But people who have beliefs as deep as those, how easy can it really be to persuad them to straighten up? It's hard to blame the United States for invading your country if you continue to threaten or keep mum about nuclear weapons. Leave it to liberals to cry wolf after a country leads us on and may have ultimately lied about WMD. It's positive when you lie to and threaten the biggest dog on the block. Especially about WMD.

Nice job there with blaming liberals. You are right recommendations are not policy but since our policy hasn't worked maybe it's time to take a closer look at those recommendations. Ahmadinejad doesn't have the strong support and backing that he did when he came into office so maybe now is the time to strengthen his opposition by proving that we are not the threat to Iranians that he paints us as.
Funny....diplomacy an option.....hell that would be the first time this Administration has decided to engage in some discussing....but hell if you got the strongest army on Earth why not use it?
But seriously I do believe that this could help in someway....maybe not in stabilizing Iraq but just maybe build a better relationship with Iran....hell I am positive the Iranian (not attempting to botch his name) leader has wanted unilateral discussions with America.....regardless of personal beliefs (meaning the stereotypical "ill feelings" the contries hold towards against each other...for whatever reasons) something may come good out of it.
You know people are going to think differently from you regardless of the world...something our world should never lose....please shoot me if every country was to be some Capatalist paradise from all corners of the globe....also shot me if some individuals believe that rule under archaiec study is needed as control...simply stating it would suck if everywhere was essentially the same regardless of which side of the fence you are on....but anyway.
Not disucssing anything will not help...further delay on the matter will further the turmoil in that geographic area.
You know he kinda does paint that picture and he's been speaking if for years.....unforunate....but at the sametime and most disturbing he may be correct in his assumptions...not of the American people....but of the government which represents them.....
Correct. Next.....
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
It's sad you choose to support those, that you openly admit, mislead you.....most countries would choose to oust those that essentially baited them into war.....you chose to embarce futher misleading because you have been painted yourself into a corner...and idealogy you are "representing"......
Well, I believe we both can agree that more inaction will only lead to more problems.
And you're right, every nation needs an impoverished wartorn country nearby to talk about.
