Fox Guest Says Iranians are "Looking Forward" to the U.S. Taking Military Action Against Their Country
Reported by Melanie - January 15, 2007 - 221 comments
The third segment today (January 15, 2007) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Fox's "business news" program, was about the "hate America tour" Cavuto claimed that Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez have launched. Cavuto's guest was Ghazal Omid, an opponent of the Iranian government and the author of Living In Hell: A True Odyssey of a Woman's Struggle in Islamic Iran Against Personal and Political Forces.
For the duration of the segment, the chyron at the bottom of the screen read: "Iran and Chavez to Spend Billions to Spread Hate Against U.S."
While Hugo Chavez was included in Cavuto's teaser and in his intro, his discussion with Omid centered on Ahmadinejad and the influence Iran allegedly has on what's happening on the ground in Iraq. Toward the end of the segment, Omid said that recently she has, "been talking to people in Iran, on the street, and asking them what would happen if the U.S. strike Iran and they said, you, you know, we are looking forward to it..."
Cavuto interrupted: "What do you mean when they said they're looking forward to it? That they would retaliate themselves?"
Omid: "No. What people said, we're so fed up with this government that we know the opposition's merely a joke outside the country. They said we are happy to have the U.S. soldiers on our ground."
Comment: The supposed need to invade Iran is a theme that Cavuto is weaving through his show with more frequency of late but this is the first time one of his guests has insisted - as did some of those pushing for the Iraq invasion - that the citizens of Iran would welcome it. The wind blowing out of Fox News is becoming more and more ominous folks. Oh, and by the way Neil, what makes you any better than Ahmadinejad and Chavez? Seems to me you're spreading an awful lot of hate yourself.

Maybe Iran is looking for 500 Billion U.S. taxpayer dollars to build a power grid that doesn't depend on a nuclear facility.

Seriously... If I'm a poor ass country that needs a bunch of new shit... I'm looking for a way to get the idiot Americans to invade my country and pour their tax dollars into my pockets.
I'm making a nuclear device from bleach, old road flares and used kitty litter... and Mr. Bush... I'm going to sell it to 'terrorists'.

You obviously don't realize you don't need to provoke an invasion for that to happen.

We've already lost 4 billion dollars in Iraq... I know it's relative... 4 billion out of 500 billion, it's like if you have 500 dollars in your pocket... would you notice if you lost 4 dollars? But, come on... 4 dollars and 4 billions dollars... that's pretty goddamn noticible... right? Iranians are looking forward to the U.S. taking military action against their country…Haha Ok.
As if Iran is one big collective conscious with all its citizens thinking the exact same way. Reminds me of the sweeping generalizations you hear about Americans.
Anyway I’ve heard there is a growing number of new generation dissidents in Iran who are sick of the oppression and censoring and all the other bullshit that people would naturally get sick of once they get a view of the outside world. I’m guessing Omid was talking with one of these peoples.
Either way these dissidents may get their wish before too long. I don’t think it’s any accident we just happen to have Iran flanked to the east and the west at the moment…0 -

And to take on Iran....when 130,000 soldiers already cannot get the job done in Iraq...is a smart move?0 -
I would like the US to bomb Baltimore. We need a do-over :(
Such a small, pissant town...leading the nation in Heroin addiction and murders. Go Baltimore!
As for Iran, it's only a matter of time.0 -

I was pretty sure you didn't...but I understand what you are alluding to....it does seem a little tricky.....willing to bet Iran thinks that samething....fighting them would be much different than Iraq.....and worse......0 -

I believe stupidest fucking beings may sometimes be confused with nicest fucking beings. It's relatively easy for folks from other countries to drag us through the mud simply because their respective countries do not have to intestinal fortitude to put themselves in the situations the United States does on a routine basis. Or maybe they don't possess the means? It's much easier for Americans to put up with the endless psychobabble about how evil we are because... Well, because we have all the balls to be concise about it(or atleast a vast majority of them). Most of those balls reside more often than not with no more than 50% of the country at that. We're a pretty unique country in that reguard seeing as most of the world considers our Democratic party slightly left of the Nazi's. And well, we all know how they feel about Republicans.

I don't know why this administration doesn't learn from it's mistakes. I may be wrong but it seems that they are hell bent on invading Iran. You can almost see Bush salivating every time he mentions them. We barely have enough troops to finish the jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan but yet he, and others, keep insisting that military force is an option in regards to Iran. I don't know if this administration realizes or not but the Iranian government weilds an awfull amount of influence over Iraq's Shia population. With the ever growing sectarian divide in Iraq it is extremely important that we bring the Shias to the table to discuss national unification. Iran could play an important role in doing this. By threatening them you will only provoke a negative reaction. I'm not saying that we have to kiss Iran's ass but we should relax with the macho rhetoric."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0

That's your perception. That doesn't make it fact.mammasan wrote:We barely have enough troops to finish the jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan but yet he, and others, keep insisting that military force is an option in regards to Iran.
Yes, an option.mammasan wrote:I don't know if this administration realizes or not but the Iranian government weilds an awfull amount of influence over Iraq's Shia population. I'm sure the administration is well aware of this. I'm even aware of it and I'm just a stupid citizen. Discussing unity with the Shias is one thing..... Discussing it with the Iranians is quite another. Until Ahmadinejad puts away his incoherent jihadist rants about the destruction of Israel we'll never talk to them about anything. That inherently makes them more dangerous to us. To suggest Iran, at this point in time, would be more of a solution than the United States during this process is just absurd.mammasan wrote:By threatening them you will only provoke a negative reaction. There's nothing wrong with being stern with people. The Iranian government is not our ally. Any country not an ally of ours striving for nuclear supremecy in the region deserves stern attention."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

Funny because that is one of the recommendations made by the Iraq Study Group. It is they who recommend we engage Iran, diplomatically, to use their influence within the Shia community to bring them to the table to discuss national reunification in Iraq. The members of the study group seem to believe that any cooperation between the US and Iran on this issue may lead to some discussion and maybe a resolution in regards to Iran's nuclear ambitions. Doesn't sound so absurd to me."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0
