I don't think he should have been fired for what he did... I do think he should have been fired though, because all the sponsors were going away... he doesn't make money anymore, can him.

I think its silly how the media went into a firestorm about the whole story. He's an racist and jerk, but he can say it.

ridiculous shit...comedy is outlawed in america who would have ever thunk it?

No. Just white guys making any stereotypical race jokes.

Non-whites can continue saying anything and everything they want.

the media is always so quick to jump on something negative. this guy was condemned before he ever had a chance. convicted and hung within a few minutes. nothing positive he ever did was thrust into the spotlight with such vengeance. in an hour of news coverage we get 59 minutes of negativity and one minute of positivity. is there nothing good happening anywhere that could give someone some hope or what? we get national coverage of a shock jock jokingly calling a basketball team nappy headed ho's. they actually had in on the ticker on the bottom of the screen, unfucking real.

the thing is; he only repeated lyrics to a hip hop song. nappy headed ho's is a common catch phrase in the black communnity. if it's wrong for a white man to repeat what a black man can say in the same forum; i'm stocking up on ammunition because hell is about to break loose.

    I stand corrected.

Wow, a lot of righteous indignation from people here about a private company firing an employee for being an idiot. Somehow people are turning this into a censorship issue? So would your solution be to have the government mandate that MSNBC retain Imus and be required to air his show?

If the government had banned Imus I could understand the furor here. But a dumbass got fired for being a dumbass. If he can pull the ratings somewhere, he'll get picked up by someone else.

He got fired for over reactionary bullshit. I don't care who did the firing...it was a stupid thing to get so worked up about.

Right. But to start whining about censorship in the US is just as reactionary. It was a business decision. The government wasn't involved.

April 11, 2007— In an interview with ABC News Wednesday afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., called for the firing of talk radio host Don Imus. Obama said he would never again appear on Imus' show, which is broadcast on CBS Radio and MSNBC television.

"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude."

Obama said he appeared once on Imus' show two years ago, and "I have no intention of returning."

Racial Slur Stirs Trouble for Shock Jock

Last week, Imus referred to the Rutgers University women's basketball team, most of whom are African-American, as "nappy-headed hos." He has since apologized for his remarks, and CBS and MSNBC suspended his show for two weeks.

"He didn't just cross the line," Obama said. "He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women — who I hope will be athletes — that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It's one that I'm not interested in supporting."

Though every major presidential candidate has decried the racist remarks, Obama is the first one to say Imus should lose his job for them.

His proclamation was the latest in an ever-expanding list of bad news for Imus.

Sponsors, including American Express Co., General Motors Corp., Procter & Gamble Co., and Staples Inc. — have announced they are pulling advertisements from the show for the indefinite future.

Tuesday, the basketball team held a press conference.

"I think that this has scarred me for life," said Matee Ajavon. "We grew up in a world where racism exists, and there's nothing we can do to change that."

"What we've been seeing around this country is this constant ratcheting up of a coarsening of the culture that all of have to think about," Obama said.

It is cersorship just not government sponsered censorship. To me, it's about the principle...we say we hold the freedoms of this country highly and we value them oh so much but not really...the dollar and the sensationalism will always come before those.

Start a network and hire him, then. He is free to work in this country.

I'll ask the question again, what should be done? Are you looking for the government to step in an demand that he gets airtime?

Lots of jackasses have shows. Oppie and Anthony have a pretty high jackass factor, and have been able to find steady work both in broadcast and satellite radio. Same with Stern, Bubba the Lovesponge, Sharpton, Jackson, etc... All jackasses, all offensive to some people, and all employed. Imus' firing isn't necessarily indicitive of any general trend. I just don't get the outrage. I wouldn't have fired him unless my network was about to suffer economically for what he did. Once you negatively affect my bottom line, you're on the street. Is that censorship or a smart business decision?

I don't want to hire him for anything but to claim that he isn't being censored is a bit short sighted. It is a business move that includes censorship. Money over principle.

if he said whatever he said and lets say it did'nt cause such a stir, would the network of fired him? probably not, I think jeff has a point. once what a person does starts to cost a company money. once that bottom line is hurt, the company has a move to make and since this is a business. getting rid of him was correct.

imus put wfan on the map. i don't know who or what they'll put on in the mornings now, but who/whatever it is will not get nearly the same amount of listeners as the i-man. in the long run, firing imus may end up costing cbs more.

same goes for msnbc. no one watched that channel in the mornings until they brought imus in 10 years ago (knowing, by the way, full-well what kind of show he ran), and no one is going to be watching it now.

This guy should be fired for being completely ridiculous looking...

I think the point being made is:
    *He said stupid/racist things
*listeners are offended, don't like it and stop listening
*ratings drop, advertisers notice and pull out
*Imus is no longer bringing in money, gets canned...

    INSTEAD it went like this:
    *he said stupid/racist things
*certain people go crazy and make it into something bigger than it was
*advertisers have a scare factor and pull out to avoid trouble
*Imus is fired for not making money for the station.

I agree, he should be fired for not making the company money... but let it happen on its own, from what ALL the listeners want not a ridiculously small percentage that cries foul and scares advertisers. Who is anyone to say that he still would have kept 90% of his listeners? We don't know because everyone got all jumpy.

I wonder what she would think: ;)

According to a November 20, 2001, Newsday article, Rosenberg said on the air: "Listen, one of these days you're gonna see Venus and Serena Williams in Playboy." And Imus replied, "You've got a better shot at National Geographic."

Imus is a comedian and by default when you are being funny you are making fun of something. He's a radio DJ, whatever, big deal, people make fun of people all the time and it's fine.

Folks were offended, however. So, he should have been able to apologize to the ladies at Rutgers and move on. And ONLY to the ladies at Rutgers, no one else, not Barrack Obama, not Hillary, not Jesse, not Al, no one.
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

The funniest part of this whole thing, well not necessarily funny, is that he apologized to the women on the Rutgers team and they accepted his apology. The people who the comment was made about never called for him to be fired all they wanted was to speak to him about it. they did and forgave him.

Now because of Al and Jesse, who had no business sticking their noses in this, Imus lost his job, the FCC will probabaly further restrict what can be said on the radio, and my governor is in the hospital.

    I second that.

I heard the news about the governor last night. That sucks! I didn't hear anything else on it, what happened? Went out of control or did someone hit them?

From what I read a red pick-up truck drove out in front of another vehicle causing it to swerve right into Corzine's SUV. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt, from what I read, so that is prbabaly why his injuries are so bad.

He was on his way to Princeton for the meeting between Imus and the RU women basketball team.
