I can't belive that people can either be so ignorant or racist. An overwhelming majority of people immigrate to this country illegally for one reason: a better life for themselves and/or family. Typically they are incredibly hard working with strong family values. How can I assume this? Both of my grandfathers were in this position back in the 50s. How can we shut our door to people who share the very ideas that this country was built on? And I don't buy into the whole "secure our borders from terrorists" crap. Its just a smoke screen to hide racism. With the heavy influx of immigrants, a lot of people in this country fear Balkanization and often critique immigrants tendancy to not assimulate as a potential cause. Illegal immigrants do not assimulate because they do not want to raise any red flags not because they do not want to embrace our culture. There needs to be a better and easier path to citizenship. A lot of people use the economic stress of illegal immigrants as another weapon against it. More citizens = more cash from taxes. Very simple. The fact that A LOT of people jump the whole "easier path to citizenship" and go straight to the "lets just kick them out" plan just makes me think that this country is full of racists.

So, in summary, if you are in agreement with the policies of this town (in the article) or others like it then you are either ignorant, racist or just plain stupid.

That is all.

Couldn't agree more. You never hear anything about the northern border. Canadians are welcome to work in the northern states like its nothing.

I honestly don't think it's a big deal if another human being comes into a country to take a job where NONE of its residents are willing to do.
These people are working in slaughter houses and plant farms, making shitty wages. I understand the concern for national security but these people aren't walking around with WMD's in their hands are they?
What do we get from jailing these people, seriously? There's far more legal residents that are criminals and gangster anyhow.

I'm all for people immigrating to this country in search of a better life (except, according to most on this board, America sucks, so I'm not sure why anyone would want to move here).

Unless you are full-blooded Native American, all of us immigrated here at some point.

HOWEVER, and this is the part that I guess would make me an ignorant racist, I would prefer for people to immigrate here LEGALLY.

Legal immigrants pay taxes in order to partake in the services of a government. Illegal immigrants do not.

And also, if you can't see how wide-open borders could be a danger to national security, then I don't know what to tell you. It's as plain as day to me. But then again, I'm an ignorant racist.

I can say for a fact that there are plenty of LEGAL IMMIGRANTS who come here to take advantage of this country. And don't partake in any services with their community.

I came here legally with my mother, we were a family from a country that had a civil war. We were sponsored here basically by a Catholic family. We were fortunate to have them and they help us get through the earlier stages in our new life. We learned the language and networked with our community.

...But at the same time, we have families and relatives and friends who arrived here in similar fashion, who NEVER work a day in their life after stepping foot in this land. They take incomes from a fake disable claims, they go on welfare and such. Yes, they came here legally but they're NOT contributing a damn thing to this country.
And I'm ashame of them because they are our family friends and country people.

As much as you think that LEGAL immigrants come here and help contribute to our nation, there a shitload of them that don't do anything.

I honestly think if we can communicate with the Mexican officials and authorities, this ILLEGAL immigration could be solved easier. Instead of just going, it's the American way or the highway crap.

Anyone know what population growth rates are like in the US. In Canada, most of our population growth rate comes from immigration. The last census figured that in 20 years immigration will be the only thing keeping our population growing. With all the people expecting to retire in that time unless people are having a ton of babies, you need immigrants to keep the economy going. If the situation is anything similar in the US wouldn’t it be in your best interest to make it easy for immigrants to move there legally? But my understanding it is very difficult to immigrate to the US legally.

I wouldn't call them racists, but they were prejudice and hostile against one another. The Native Americans were fighting each other over land and properties before the Europeans ever got here.

We often categorized them as one people but in fact their were many different tribes who killed each each other.

  • From Ron Paul's website:
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:

Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.

i figure there's just as much racism at work in allowing so many Latinos to come here illegally. they are desperate so they are taken advantage of. they get all of the shit jobs. many of the jobs are dangerous. i think the quality of labor is the real issue here. it's shit labor and there's too much of it. there's way too much production, and therefore over vast consumption, and its paid for by the blood sweat and tears of exploited workers. also, most Mexicans have indigenous blood, so they have more right to the land than anyone else.

racism in the power structure has made things this way.

Sorry poster but you are dead wrong.
You think we should open our boarders to whoever wants to come in?
Its people like you who are gonna make his country week. And once immigrants know you are week, then its gonna get ugly. Every scumbag from every country will show up here looking to work you over good. They also would take advantage of the immigrant families who came here legally.
You need to have rules and regulations to make things work, in any situation. And if you don't then you have anarchy. And by the sounds of you, I do not think you would last two seconds in a world of anarchy. I love secular progressive people like you who think this way. It makes me laugh.

BTW, Me wanting to have boarders and rules in MY country, does not make me a racist.

I am curious, would you have any problem making it easier for people to immigrate Legally. From my understanding as someone living outside of the US it is very difficult for people who want to come to the US to do it legally. So if someone wants to work why not let them in legally, then it is much easier to collect their taxes and it is much easier to keep tabs on them if they start doing stuff that is illegal.

Let me just clarify my stance on the whole issue

Immigrants coming here legally: very good

Immigrants coming here illegally to work: not nearly as bad as people think. yes it would be very nice if they were documented. Stop blaming them for all the country's ills. It is not their fault you are poor. They are not taking your job. Do you pick lettuce? How about strawberries? Do you clean bathrooms at gas stations? Lets see, how much would houses cost if all construction was done by 25-30 dollar an hour fat and lazy, "I can't get fired because I'm union" american workers instead of minimum wage or less illegal immigrants?

Granting illegals who are already here amnesty (only if they have demonstarted law abiding behavior):very good

Conducting "witch hunts" to rid the US of illegal immigrants: VERY VERY BAD

Deporting non law abiding illegals: very good

Constructing a 700 mile fence to cover over 2000 miles of border: very bad. and stupid. and expensive. Lets exam all the instances in history where a big ass wall was constructed. Can anyone think of an example where the end result was good?

Making an easier path to citizenship for hard working individuals: very good

Denying illigal immigrants basic human necessities like housing and healthcare: very bad. I don't care how much it costs, they are people like you and me. Denying PEOPLE these things demonstrates a complete lack of compassion in my opinion. All those with a hallow tin chest say "I"

I'm in favor of relaxing the immigration laws to the point of a mere formality so that people can come here legally very easily.

Trust me dude, packing plant wages aren't shitty. $15 per hour isn't unusual. All I can say is I just wish the bastards would learn english. I can't even say hi to my neighbor because he doesn't understand "hello."

I had an interesting experience renewing my drivers license recently. The guy in front of me didn't speak english. He had his wife with him, translating. I didn't hear the conversation, but eventually they walked away without a license.

And it makes me sick watching someone at the grocery store who, again, doesn't speak a drop of english, and watching them and their half dozen screaming rugrats go through their food stamps.

Yeah, but they're also contributing to ID fraud in a huge way. That's how they're able to get jobs in the first place.

Maybe, with respect to the guy who can't say hello to his neighbor, maybe his neighbor knows english, but is also smart enough to know that the guy thinks he is a bastard so he would rather not talk to him. If my neighbor thought I was a bastard, I probably would avoid talking to him no matter what language I spoke.

And anyway why is it wrong to try and help someone out? I mean if you throw a hola to this guy maybe he will be more inclined to try and practice his english with you, and get better act. If people act all divisive, it doesn't really help anyone.

Are people from Mexico even allowed to enter the US legally for work? I mean I doubt it is like that part in Godfather 2 where Don Corleone just showed up at Ellis Island as a kid and they let him in.
