fucked up...and like the others said...i work in a hospital-ish type place so good to hear that your boss is getting the neccessary stick for it... hospital or not, terrorism act or no terrorism act there are better ways that could have been handled...you handled yourself perfectly

Went to work this morning like i've done a hundred times before, and went to my office and realised i left my office keys in my car. Rather than take my bag back with me i left it hanging on the door handle, this is swipe card access only area so i thought it would be safe.
Went to get my keys and was back in about 15 minutes to find police had evacuated the hospital. I asked a collegue what was going on and they said someone saw an asian man leave a bag in the hospital and walk off. FUCK ME i said, and immediately went to one of the police officers and said it could be my bag. They escorted me into the hospital and i confirmed where the bag was and what type it was. They said that was the bag but couldnt let me get to it until someone had confirmed my identity. This took nearly thirty minutes by which time the bomb squad had arrived. The chief executive took it upon herself to start a tyrade of insults at me infront of the cops and said she would "personally end my career".
Once my identity had been confirmed i was searched under section 43 of the terrorism act and was then escorted to my bag. The police were actually quite cool about it, maybe because of the bollocking i took from the chief executive.
I've been suspended from work, pending a fitness to practice meeting. What a fucking day, i'm so fucking pissed.
you should've told that bitch of an executive that it was all a big misunderstanding... taken completely out of perspective... i would've.... i don't know... i have this weird defensive vibe, or maybe i got an attitude problem but my bosses always have a hard time telling me off and when they do, well, let's just say the situation is uncomfortable on both ends.... if the executive was bitching at you, you should've said in a bad tone..."don't you think i have enough already by having the bomb squad get here? how the hell do you think I feel?" she/he would've backed off a little, i bet. i work in a hospital too, so i know how those bitches get.... and trust me, if i were there i'd of bitched back at the exec for you when was it a crime to leave a bag in your office??? fucking weirdo's... you shouldn't have felt bad dude, it wasn't your fault. fuck them. repeat after me, "fuck them, not me"
This isn't the land of opportunity, it's the land of competition.
My GF was telling me that her school was evacuated after a student through a backpack in the garbage. Apparently the student had puked in his bag.
This is just hysteria though.
I remember after 9/11 having one or two 'visions' of buildings exploding next to me, then I thought I'm more likely to die in a motor vehicle accident, why don't I have visions about that?
This reminds me of that old saying "There is nothing to fear, but fear its self."

That's fucking crazy !
People live in a endless fear and can the police every time they see a bag left alone... people are crazy....

hell, i'll leave that bag anytime anywhere again... shit!
No point getting poo pants with me dead.
It's pretty standard stuff in hospitals these days that any unattended bags have to be accounted for. Hospital employees are taught to ring these things through to security. I can't imagine that it's any different in London. And it's not a new thing either, it's not like there wasn't constant warnings at Heathrow airport 10 years ago that any bag left unattended would be taken away and destroyed.
I'm not saying it's right but I can see how in a big hospital or place where a lot of people are gathered that it's probably prudent to investigate any unattended bag or package. Having said that I don't think London Calling should have been fried in boiling oil over it either. It's an easy mistake to make and could have been handled a lot more professionally particularly by the CEO.
And quite apart from all that I was having a joke so by all means get shitty with me, but it's not going to change the way things are.

on my city's underground rail loop they have removed all the garbage cans. i can not tell you how annoying it is to forget that fact and have to nurse an apple core for the 50 minutes it takes me to get to my home station.
oh and while i'm at it, flying home tuesday i was again subjected to an explosives test. not to mention a random bag search. not that i particularly mind, i find it amusing. plus i've now learnt not to use nailfiles when i travel. it's emory boards all the way now.

ummmmm..... famous last words, i know but, i actually do work in a hospital. i've worked in hospitals for 3 years now... and i haven't been told to pass any belongings, including bags through some detector... and, yeah, trust me, i'd do it again... cause i'm a fucken' badass, that's why.
This isn't the land of opportunity, it's the land of competition.
Long before 9/11 we had several very serious bomb threats at the hospital that I worked at. Plenty of frooples out there Ryan. They don't tell you about it on the news but trust me it happens. And even if it has never ended in an actual bombing of a hospital, pretty much pays to be prepared when you have so many sick people to evacuate if necessary right?
ha, this situation has been running through my head since i read it and my god i cant grasp how much of an over-reaction it was. fucking hell like. must have been VERY surreal when you came back in and all this fuss was being made!
anyway it reminds me of a time i went to a petrol station, (totally my fault tho) filled up my car & a can, and forgot to put the can my in my car (OOPS)...came back two hours later and 3 squad cars were surrounding it and they'd closed petrol station.
walking over to pick up the can was an incredibly humbling moment
good story. i'm impressed with police, and glad that hospitals in North of England react quickly to any kind of threat.
ofcourse it's not your fault, and your manager is over-reacting.
Probably got started coz of that code system that goes on in hospitals.
You have to report stuff like that to security. But I don't understand why someone didn't recognize him and say so or why it warranted the reponse it got. Maybe they're just a bit nervous over there at the moment.
that's where my confusion comes in......assuming this is his office and he's been there for a while, didn't anyone recognize his bag and use reasoning and common sense before hitting the panic button?.......
well, some might not have followed the recent events that well if not in the UK, but it actually makes sense.
the people arrested over the recent car bombs attempts were all arab or asian DOCTORS ...so the atmosphere of suspicion is understandable if regrettable, and the fact he was known to work there would not have changed anything (though whoever reported him leaving the bag could have simply come to him and asked why he was doing so..not assume the worse  ).
I wouldn't worry about it though, they can't sack you for making a simple mistake. your CE is an idiot, but has no solid ground, she just lost it at the time (which considering her position is not acceptable).

No enemies, just regular people who want to end your life because you aren't Muslim?
He asked you if you had an I.D.
And you said, 'Bout What?'
