I fucked up big time today

Went to work this morning like i've done a hundred times before, and went to my office and realised i left my office keys in my car. Rather than take my bag back with me i left it hanging on the door handle, this is swipe card access only area so i thought it would be safe.
Went to get my keys and was back in about 15 minutes to find police had evacuated the hospital. I asked a collegue what was going on and they said someone saw an asian man leave a bag in the hospital and walk off. FUCK ME i said, and immediately went to one of the police officers and said it could be my bag. They escorted me into the hospital and i confirmed where the bag was and what type it was. They said that was the bag but couldnt let me get to it until someone had confirmed my identity. This took nearly thirty minutes by which time the bomb squad had arrived. The chief executive took it upon herself to start a tyrade of insults at me infront of the cops and said she would "personally end my career".
Once my identity had been confirmed i was searched under section 43 of the terrorism act and was then escorted to my bag. The police were actually quite cool about it, maybe because of the bollocking i took from the chief executive.
I've been suspended from work, pending a fitness to practice meeting. What a fucking day, i'm so fucking pissed.

Fucking wankstain of a chief executive. Someone should end her career for her makeshift racial profiling.

Okay, maybe she wasn't doing that, but I'm venting with ya, brother.
  • Oh wow man, I'm sorry to hear all of that. I know it's hard but try to find some calm and not let all this eat you up inside. But of course, it's always easier to give the advice than take it. Hope things get better.

i don't get it....it is a secure area......and your office?......why all the fuss?.....and the ceo can suck it...chewing out an employee like that isn't good business....

This is so fucked up, a sign of the sickness of modern times that you can be considered "not fit to practise" after leaving a bag in a secure work area for a few minutes.

You are not the problem, the system is.

ON the race issue, I would take that as a descriptor rather than anything deeper, the train bombers were all white I believe !

Probably got started coz of that code system that goes on in hospitals.
You have to report stuff like that to security. But I don't understand why someone didn't recognize him and say so or why it warranted the reponse it got. Maybe they're just a bit nervous over there at the moment.

But yeah, the ceo sounds like a complete tool!

Come to Australia, we'll have you, after all, you have just been proven to be not a terrorist !!

I'd put in a formal complaint about the CEO for unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour, she will wind up eating crow.

that's where my confusion comes in......assuming this is his office and he's been there for a while, didn't anyone recognize his bag and use reasoning and common sense before hitting the panic button?.......

Don't you wish you were in high school and could tell the CEO to meet you at the park and proceed to beat the crap out of her? But it wasn't right to hit a woman then and now, so maybe you should call the police when she leaves her purse somewhere. Put a bomb in it if you want her to go to jail.

well, that sucks. it's amazing that something you could do on a daily basis less than 10 years ago will now get you in heaps of trouble.

you should tell your chief exec to go fuck herself in the ear. do it with nobody else around, though. i can't stand supervisors and the like that don't think twice about berating a worker in front of co-workers. that's a low class move.

Well I can see that maybe it was less of a "hitting the panic button" and more of a "chinese whispers" situation. Sounds like somebody did see him leave the bag and called security. Coz they gave a description of him.
And if the person didn't know him, then calling it in to security was the right thing to do.
But from there it sounds like it got a bit ridiculous. How hard would it have been for security to come down and check? Not very. And that's what should have happened before all the hysteria and over the top response began.

We were always told to call stuff like that in to security and that they'd prefer we erred on the side of caution. Said they'd rather come out for a false alarm than to not have an alarm raised. But they did always come out and check first.

Yeah, reckon there's a bit of over zealousness going on in downtown London at the moment. And who knows if that's a good or bad thing. Doesn't seem to stop the bad shit from going on.

lol, the last two posts with the "ha-ha" in them made me think of phil ken sebben, from harvey birdman attorney at law.

    "Ha-ha! Dangly parts."

    link to some soundbites:

and yes, the person that made that website spelled phils last name wrong. it's sebben, not sebbin.

What a drag. When I started reading this I wasn't paying attention to where you were from. I was going to lament the effects of the Patriot Act in this country. Sorry that you have to live under the same sort of hysteria that we do.

Still, if a white guy hangs his bag on a door, there is NO WAY the bombsquad shows up. Absolutely no fucking way.

  • thanks for the support. I'm not too bothered about the racial profiling, its to be expected in the current climate.
Spoke to my medical union and they are advising me to resign, and take it to an employment tribunal. They say the fitness to practice meeting will be a kangaroo court where they have too many rules they can twist in order to fuck me over. A tribunal would be fairer and i'd most likely win it and also get to fuck over the ceo. The medical director at the hospital who witnessed her rampage said he would back me up at the tribunal. He's already spoken to her and told her he's going to recommend to the board of directors that she be sacked as she has proven she cannot handle pressure situations.

Well I really wish it wasn't. It's not fair at all.
I admit if I'd discovered the bag unattended I would probably have called it in to security, but I'd have felt like a complete idiot if it had instigated the same outcome. But then if I'd seen you leaving it, I probably would have called out to ask you what you were doing.

That doesn't seem right that they're advising you to resign. I mean if you win does that mean you'd be reinstated?

That sounds about right, that's pretty pathetic on her part really. If anyone rational is leading a hospital, and finds out what happened which is a perfectly common thing for a mistake and you did absolutely the right thing telling everyone as soon as possible, then they should breath a sigh of relief thank the police for acting so quickly and then go on about the day, maybe busting your balls a bit in private about not doing that again but that's it.

Good luck, I hope you find a better hospital to work in.
