if men were giving birth to babies since the beginning of time I dont think this message board would exist so i don't think we would be talking about it.

im not saying women are smarter than us.... but i am saying women are smarter than us when it comes to most everything.

Wasn't the internet "invented" by a man? :)

I don't think women are smarter than men or men smarter than women.
I think we see things differently, are generally motivated differently, but we live in different realities, similar but different, probably due to biological differences that shape our different perspectives.

So either you don't like hypotheticals,
or you have a problem with men discussing abortion?

Perhaps, but no former vice president ever claimed to invent it.

Nope. Well in my opinion and experience nothing is ever really either black or white.

Clearly a fetus is "alive". That is a biological fact.

You will get a few arguments on that point.

Well I'm sure I will, I thought I might just understand them a little better if they came from a different perspective. One that was more relevant to me.

And no it was not my intention to start an argument, but I accept that regardless of my intention most likely there will be one anyway. :)

I'd still think it was incredibly ignorant, irresponsible and selfish....and murder.

Actually mine was a response to what I believed was that old joke. "Perhaps, but NO former vice president ever claimed to invent it."

It was debunked. He never said or implied it, but most people still believe he did. The liberal media really did a number on running away with that pile of crap.

    Sorry

Just is that little ditty seems to have cropped again in other areas the last couple of days. Some people still believe the lies of the "liberal" media.

Is it only interesting when you're banging on about what girls should and shouldn't do?

I believe in a woman’s right to chose.

That right should not be legislated by men who are just jealous that they are not the bringers of new life.

I do not "bang" on women for their choices they make for their own bodies, it is not a choice for me to make for others.

Cool. Thank you. I'm just wondering what you think the differences would be to this argument if men were the seahorses? Like do you think that society would be the same and the arguments the same but just coming from women instead of men?

By "banging on" I simply meant that it astounds me that whenever an abortion thread comes up it is debated so fervently by a majority of men here on the pit. I've given up thinking that girls in numbers would even join in. I find it interesting is all. :)

  • I think the analogy of men being seahorses is at first impression of seeing a real seahorse verse the ones of ancient Greek mythology is a view of weakness. Real seahorses appear feeble or fragile. Not the best comparison for men who think they are stronger and smarter then all women. IMO

If I were to start a thread such as this I would go with and attack the apparent super machoism of men who want to nothing but control woman such as the Taliban do and RW Fundamentalist Christians try to do.

    now say for example:

If men were like emperor penguins...

Now protecting eggs in -80F, now that is macho!

Well I chose the sea horses because they seem to be the only example of the male carrying the young INSIDE them. I don't see them as fragile. It would take strength to do what they do. But then seahorses in general are fragile creatures, both male and female so by comparison I don't think the male of the species is anymore fragile than the female.

I guess I started the thread because I'm kinda over the attack method of other threads on this topic. Being advesorial doesn't seem to be helping the situation really. Seems to me that it only entrenches people into their beliefs and makes them dig in even harder. If I'm honest I suspect that my point of view when it comes to a woman's right to choose most likely will not change but it's interesting to try to see it from a different angle. What would our society be like if men where the bearers of the children? How would this affect our views and our society in general. There are very few examples of cultures and societies where women are the leaders.

Oh and them Emperor penguins are very cool, I guess I just see them as an example of the Mr Mom kind of direction that our society is taking. It's excellent to see and hopefully we'll see more of it, but it is still different fundementally.

  • Men are more intelligent than women.

    Women are wiser than men.

Get over it, people. This is getting to be like a bad stand-up act. "Men and woman are diff'rent man. Diff'rent. Like, woemn do this and men do this. lolololol."

EDIT: I would kill myself if I ever looked in the mirror wearing a baby harness-thing. To hell with it. I don't feel like passing on my genes anyway.
  • i killed off a few million "knuckle children" just yesterday. I feel bad about it now.
