Fine. Then what the fuck are we to do? Tell the hurricane to go away? Was Katrina the first hurricane to ever hit the US? I don't think the "complainers" being referenced to here are those killed or stranded in New Orleans, but people that used Katrina to bash Bush and say he hates black people. Bush and FEMA will get no credit now (not that it is important that they do), but it just goes to show that when things don't go well the line is Bush hates black people, and when things go orderly....silence.

Don't you all see there is no build-up to Florida hurricanes in the media? Why? Because the local and state governments are prepared. Different story in New Orleans for Katrina. No preparedness.

i'm not so sure thats the point of the OP, you seem to just assume it is. I haven't heard anyone say in this thread that Bush hates black people. IMO, he doesnt really give a shit about anyone, black or white, and has zero leadership skills.

but anyway, I'm not excusing the local and state governments during Katrina (even though Florida has tons more money and experience than Louisiana). They failed spectacularly. We are in agreement there.

But i also dont excuse the federal government's complete failure to step in when it became clear the state couldnt do anything. i also dont excuse the federal government for using my tax dollars to create and mismanage the beaureucratic nightmare that is FEMA and homeland security. I've had to deal with them personally, and they are completely useless.

i'm one of the biggest states rights/power guys here, but at some point one should use common sense. if New York gets hit by a meteor, is the federal government just supposed to say "sucks to be you" and not do anything? if a state's government is inneffective, the feds should step in. at the very least pay attention and try to, oh i dont know, LEAD. Bush could barely be bothered to watch the news. he just wanted to play rancher in Crawford. fuck him.

if they dont screw it up this time, or next time, then great. i'll say good job. but boofuckinghoo if they dont get enough praise. thats the way it is. the squeaky wheel gets the grease. that wouldnt be any different regardless of who's in charge.

Start walking now so we don't have to listen to the whining and complaining again please.

Is that you Phil Graham ?
  • Is it really necessary for the President to be in Texas monitoring this? is he going to follow all hurricanes locally the rest of the season?

Does anyone think the RNC should be raising funds for Katrina victums first? Don't get me wrong, I love seeing them focusing on helping others, but watching it seemed like they were fund raising for a Katrina-like disaster.

I wonder how much harder it will be to evacuate New Orleans in the future with this hurricane hitting at only a category 2 (not that it doesn't pose it's own danger)? So much went into the evacuation, and it effects peoples lives so much, just seems our nature to say ahhh, fuck it I'm staying!

I don't think it's going to be difficult to get people to evacuate. Obviously they learned the lessons from katrina and took those lessons to heart, with the evac plans and everything. And I don't think that anyone who was there for katrina before, will ever forget what happened and will always be on guard when a storm comes around.
