  • stop whining and complaining about people whining and complaining. i'd say they had more right to whine and complain than you do.

thank god i dont have to put up with that bullshit again. unless it swings west to Houston. these stupid storms like to follow me around i think.
  • So now that this is going smooth, when can we expect applause to the Federal Govt. for making this easy and taking precautions? The buses are being used, ole Ray is not f'n asleep at the wheel this time and people seem to have some damn common sense to get the fuck outta dodge unlike last time when they thought it was cute.
    I'll hit F5 and wait....;)

Did you see video of that town in Cuba that was evacuated long before Gustav came through? The people were literally all walking away...no buses or nothing. Everyone was gone by the time it rolled through (at least from that town).

heh. i'm supposed to applaud them for doing their job and not fucking it up this time? i suppose i'll applaud when they build a decent levee system. that would actually be an accomplishment.

but like i said before. complete failure on a federal, state and local level (and they failed for decades: corruption, welfare, etc.). they all deserve blame. a lot of regular folk too.

Yep, you should applaud them if it goes well. Even though that's what is suppose to happen, it should be acknowledged when it does.

this is really easy for you to say as you sit in the comfort of your middle class midwestern home. don't let their crying out for help ever dampen your day or concern you in the least. try to have some empathy for once. you could be like mccain and at least try to act like you have some compassion.

That is not the point of this thread. The point of the thread is that the Republicans supposedly hate black people, and that is the reason Katrina was so damaging. In actuality, it was the unprepared local governments that were the problem, and miscommunication. If the government hated black people then we wouldn't have the national guard there before the storm this time around.

The lessons were learned from Katrina, and the government at the local level and national level has greatly improved their preparedness. But the Bush administration will not get credit for caring for black people this time around.

I bet it doesn't even hit New Orleans.

What if you have no where to walk to? It's not like these people can afford hotels, unless there are shelters set up.. I see your point though, but we seem to forget, a lot of these people don't even have TVs.

there are buses and there are shelters for those who leave, like the govt is telling them they need to.

    whining and complaining about what?

    People losing family members?

People losing all of their possessions?

    People losing their houses?

People not being able to get out and losing their lives because of it?

People getting out and coming back to nothing but wet land at the place where their house used to be?

Yea, those fucking whiners and complainers. Shit, don't they know the storm is going to jack up the gas prices for the rest of us?! Fuck them and their houses that are floating down the street. We got real problems.

It honestly never occurred to me that the emotions expressed by the victims of Katrina could be considered condemnable. I mean, wtf, that's normal thinking, right?!?

right!!! they knew exactly what was coming thier way right??

what is laughable to me is that the conservatives on here still blame the poor ones that had no cars, or tvs or any way of knowing how bad it would be, let alone getting out. they paid with their lives while we bicker about tax cuts for the wealthy and the corporations.

  • i'd like to see some people here walk their fat asses out of a city and sleep in...uh... i guess sleep in the woods... in a hurricane. i'm not sure what they are thinking.
  • I'm just wondering if they're setting up some rape tents or something inside the superdome...

Fine. Then what the fuck are we to do? Tell the hurricane to go away? Was Katrina the first hurricane to ever hit the US? I don't think the "complainers" being referenced to here are those killed or stranded in New Orleans, but people that used Katrina to bash Bush and say he hates black people. Bush and FEMA will get no credit now (not that it is important that they do), but it just goes to show that when things don't go well the line is Bush hates black people, and when things go orderly....silence.

Don't you all see there is no build-up to Florida hurricanes in the media? Why? Because the local and state governments are prepared. Different story in New Orleans for Katrina. No preparedness.

i'm not so sure thats the point of the OP, you seem to just assume it is. I haven't heard anyone say in this thread that Bush hates black people. IMO, he doesnt really give a shit about anyone, black or white, and has zero leadership skills.

but anyway, I'm not excusing the local and state governments during Katrina (even though Florida has tons more money and experience than Louisiana). They failed spectacularly. We are in agreement there.

But i also dont excuse the federal government's complete failure to step in when it became clear the state couldnt do anything. i also dont excuse the federal government for using my tax dollars to create and mismanage the beaureucratic nightmare that is FEMA and homeland security. I've had to deal with them personally, and they are completely useless.

i'm one of the biggest states rights/power guys here, but at some point one should use common sense. if New York gets hit by a meteor, is the federal government just supposed to say "sucks to be you" and not do anything? if a state's government is inneffective, the feds should step in. at the very least pay attention and try to, oh i dont know, LEAD. Bush could barely be bothered to watch the news. he just wanted to play rancher in Crawford. fuck him.

if they dont screw it up this time, or next time, then great. i'll say good job. but boofuckinghoo if they dont get enough praise. thats the way it is. the squeaky wheel gets the grease. that wouldnt be any different regardless of who's in charge.
