Iran was set to make fantastic claims on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, including finding an herbal cure for AIDS, an Israeli news agency reported Sunday.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was set to speak of his nation's "great achievements" on Feb. 11, Ynetnews.com reported Sunday, citing the Iranian news agency Fars as its source.

"The Iranian nation will celebrate stabilization and establishment of its nuclear rights during the Ten-Day Dawn [the anniversary of the revolution]," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.

Along with the claim of nuclear "rights," Ahmadinejad was set to tout a purported "herbal" cure for AIDS, the news agency Fars reported.

"The drug named 'IMOD' is completely effective and safe with no proven side effects," Iran's Minister of Health Kamran Bagheri Lankarani said.

The report could not be verified.

I hope they did find a cure. I guess we'll have to just see.

That would be funny if it wasn't such a tragic issue.
How can he (the president) expect to have his claims taken seriously on the nuclear program (the fact it's designed for civil use) when he says stuff like this?

It would be wonderfull news if it was true... But somehow I don't see Iran as the leader on medical research. Allah willing hehe.. Insjah Allah it's true

  • A herbal cure for AIDS is an oxymoron in itself.

On a different note British news showed TV footage of Iran's schoolkids being given the day off school to protest against the US and demand their 'nuclear rights'. Obviously the kids loved it - children will take any opportunity to group together and jump and shout about - beyond belief that a government could be so irresponsible as to actually co-ordinate and encourage it though. The TV footage was like Orwell's '2 minutes of hate' from Big Brother.
  • YAY!!! Foxnews reporting something can never be verified mostly because it is not true...brings back memories of the Isreal is going to nuke Iran article...they usually report complete bs.

I get tired of this crap that Fox News is so evil. People claim you are brain washed or something if you watch Fox News. I think the people that automatically assume Fox is wrong or biased on every story they report are brainwashed. The mainstream media says Fox is bad so they must be. I am in no way a die hard Republican, I just think people let others in the media think for them and just assume everything they say is correct. When I have watched Fox I don't see any of the stuff people scream is so bad about Fox. CNN, MSNBC and Fox all report the same crap in my opinion.

All the major news stations are the same. they all try to reach some political goal. It is just more apparent on Fox then any others. Watch the oreily factor, you shall see. And on the other side of the spectrum is nancy grace for cnn

I would have to say that Fox is particuarly bad - whenever watching it I can't shake the feeling that I'm watching what should be some kind of spoof rather than an actual news channel.

Sky News (Murdoch owned) is it's counterpart in the UK. The treatment of the Iraq war - and particuarly the build up to it was scandalous. They quite often had Scott Ritter on as the token voice of objection to the march to war and treated him like he was some kind of crackpot - when precisely everything he said has since been demonstarted to be correct (as MP George Galloway triumphantly told your senate).
  • O no they are definitely next now

And if they didn't, Iran and it's leader are looking more and more like North Korea.

Wanna bet on which is true?

I dunno, but i respect Iran as a Nation, just because they do things our culture does not agree with is no reason to hate them. They are trying to become a leader of the region, like america is to much of the world.

    N. Korea is by far way worse, they are just rabble rousers (yes i used that term cuz its awesome)

    What country are you from?
    Not the UK I hope

If you respect an oppressive and dictatorial theocracy with a repugnant record on human rights abuses I would be very worried about you voting on the course of my society.

Who cares about their nuclear reasearch. How do we have the right to say who can and cant have certain technology.

I am an american...what people dont seem to understand is that the Iranian pres. was elected by the majority of the people there. He may do some things that i do not agree with, but they also live in a completely different society than us.

They are not stupid, and they will not nuke isreal, that would mean full scale war with America, and Iran does not want that. Its called posturing, and america does it all the time.

Also, think about jerusalem they will not nuke the "holy" land

Did you see Tiger is going to be playing in the upcoming Tehran Classic next week. It took a huge amount of money to get him to show up but he said he is going to play. ;)

I know he is an elected President but ultimate power lies with the Muslim clerics and their 'Supreme Leader'. Presidential candidates must be approved by the Council of Guardians (an insular sect of medievil w*nkers) prior to running in order to ensure their allegiance to the ideals of the Islamic revolution. And those Islamic ideals are viciously imposed upon ALL the citizens of Iran, and those who dare to voice dissent (usually student groups or couragous journalists) are savagely punished.
