JFK junior,Lynrd skynrd, SRV,Thurman Munson and now Cory lidle..yet the list goes on and on. When will the government step in and regulate flying by citizens?

  • Fine, I'll bite.

    Planes: designed to travel places
    Guns: designed to kill

What the device in question is meant to be used for, or can be used for if not for terrible accidents, does matter.
  • ummmm.... they do regulate flying by civilians.

and for the record, SRV or no one from Lynyrd Skynyrd was actually piloting the plane that they died on.

yea but youll never take our guns away from us...i definetly think flying is something that someone should be thoroughly tested for.

i dont care... i'm more than happy that you keep killing each other... less idiots in the world then

flying is heavily regulated... that guy would have had lessons, tests, medicals, a licence, etc... whereas he would have got a free gun when he bought a new ironing board at the kwik-e-mart as long as he could have counted to 3 with no pausing

what, exactly, is the fucking point of your thread?

It's just a shame that - not withstanding the element of humour in your post - it's not only the idiots who are being killed. I.e, Those Amish seemed to be pretty decent folk to me.

Edit: If it was simply a case of macho gun freaks with self esteem problems relating to their small penises killing each other, then I'd say "Great!! Someone film this shit!!" and proceed to jack my job in and spend all day sitting at home watching footage of these one-eybrowed, web-footed redneck chicken-kickers blasting each others pea-brains all over their trailer parks.

What I found to be very sick about this whole situation. The fact that when my buddy turned on the news last night that it was all about the Yankee pitcher and the "other" person in the plane. They didn't know who the hell was in the plane? That person's life was meaningless compared to a baseball player? Wouldn't have been a sensational news story by giving the other person's name? I just didn't understand that. As to me they were both killed in a plane crash and it really didn't matter what they did for a living.

I think the government does regulate flying. you have to go through many hours of training to get a licence. government doesnt need to step in everytime something happens. in this case, the pilot reported engine problems before the crash. doesnt sound like it was pilot error. must we blame EVERYTHING on the government

The government regulates flying in this country it's called the FAA. Before you can obtain a license you need to log in countless hours with an instructor and then pass a test in order to get the license. Even then you are only allowed to fly by day and with clear weather. You need extra instruction plus another test in order to be qualified to fly by instruments alone.

It's a regulated mode of transport, like the car, a motorbike, etc. Accidents happen. Do you need the government to step in when there is a 50 car pile up on the highway? Don't think so...

There was an instructor in the plane ffs, all the regulations were being followed, it was an accident, what do you want? cotton wool? oxygen tents? "tighter" regulations maybe like learning in areas not so built up maybe...? But for everyone surely? What has celebratory got to do with it? When you became famous you can't be allowed to do anything dangerous?? :o
