EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND WEEP. AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE.
Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.
THE 545 PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FORAMERICA'S WOES BY CHARLEY REESE:
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason, they have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton- picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a SPEAKER, who stood up and criticized G.W. BUSH for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.
REPLACE THE SCOUNDRELS
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ. There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess.
Hmmmmm, any connection you think?
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we're seen:
1) Consumer confidence plummet
2) the cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3 a gallon
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase)
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses)
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487While I think there should be term limits on all public positions such as these, I know there are a few good ones out there doing the job. There are some that aren't tax and spenders, there are some that were against going to Iraq in the first place. There are some that believe that this is a sovereign nation. There are some that know NAFTA is a failure for America, and it is going to get worse. There are some that know welfare is wrong and that it is being abused. There are some who know that you don't give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens when we are going to have problems funding paying our own citizens. There are some that know this 'economic stimulus package' is going to fail and that it is merely borrowing more from the future. There are some that know Iraq is being funded by the Chinese and other foreign nations.
Barack and Hillary aren't some of them.0 -

Using these stats is ridiculous and completely paints an inaccurate picture. Most of these "declines" were set in motion long before the Democrats took control of Congress.0 -

I say vote them ALL out....Dems and Reps.
They have not been doing their job so they should all lose it unless they can prove otherwise, like a Dennis Kucinich...the one's who have a record of doing good for the public and have stood up against special interests. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. One domino needs to tip in order for all of them to start crashing down. That domino was GW Bush's second term. You cannot blame Dems for Bush's mistakes in office!...44 shows...and counting....0 -

i guess beating up on the republicans and their insane aganda and assult on this country has become too easy or passe' so now people are shifting their attention, and blame, towards the people that got stuck with the clean up duty...
trust me, i am not sticking up for the democratic party... i'm just sayin'0 -

so the president vetoed it and...congress said 'ok' and gave up and gave in to bush. they were elected to perform the will of the ppl, which overwhelmingly is out of iraq, single payer health care...which they, and your candidate, seem to be againststandin above the crowd

haaaaa
i am not defending anyone, i am just pointing out the reality that the BILL WAS VETO'D BY THE PRESIDENT... and that they could not get the votes required to overturn it... perhaps you forgot the 49% of the congress that is republican?
this is how the system works.. like it or not... thats how it works... and the Democrats are not going to cut off funding with 150,000 troops and equipment half way across the world in a war zone. i cant say i blame them for that... we dont need troops being bailed out by helicopter off of embassy roofs... if you are going to do it you have to do it right... this is part of the neocon plan... break it, own it, and make it real fucking hard to leave... this isnt like wrapping up the end of the day and going home from work my friend... i want them home tommorow, just like you... but the reality iof the situation is Bush is commander in thief and has veto power.
and gaain, this is not defending any political party... this is my view of the reality of the situation0 -

That's exactly why I say vote them all out. Except for the ones like Kucinich, who were brave enough to not vote to fund Bush's war....the rest can get the fuck out because they can't even get 2/3 of them together to represent the people's wants and end this war. They're not doing their job....time to get out.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

El_Kabong wrote:surely you can understand the dems have the majority
If the Congress overrides the veto by a two-thirds majority in each house, it becomes law without the President's signature.
the senate currently has 49 democrats... 49 republicans... and 2 independents one of which is hawk leiberman and the other is sanders
you call that a majority? i call that a dead heat
you need 65 votes in the senate to overturn the presidents veto... call me crazy, but i dont see that math working

I'm putting them blame on almost all of them because that's where it belongs. It's very short sighted to think that all of our woes are due to the Republicans. Not hardly.
And if you're not defending them, what are you 'just sayin', then?If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
