EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND WEEP. AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE.

Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.

THE 545 PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FORAMERICA'S WOES BY CHARLEY REESE:

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason, they have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton- picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a SPEAKER, who stood up and criticized G.W. BUSH for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE THE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ. There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess.

Hmmmmm, any connection you think?

A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we're seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet
2) the cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3 a gallon
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase)
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses)
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

While I think there should be term limits on all public positions such as these, I know there are a few good ones out there doing the job. There are some that aren't tax and spenders, there are some that were against going to Iraq in the first place. There are some that believe that this is a sovereign nation. There are some that know NAFTA is a failure for America, and it is going to get worse. There are some that know welfare is wrong and that it is being abused. There are some who know that you don't give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens when we are going to have problems funding paying our own citizens. There are some that know this 'economic stimulus package' is going to fail and that it is merely borrowing more from the future. There are some that know Iraq is being funded by the Chinese and other foreign nations.

Barack and Hillary aren't some of them.

This could be how the Democrats lose the White House in 2008...a year ago, the White House probably belonged to whomever won the Demo nod. Now...it's probably a 50-50 crap shoot as to who wins the White House...and the worst news is that the Dems can't blame Bush for this one.

Using these stats is ridiculous and completely paints an inaccurate picture. Most of these "declines" were set in motion long before the Democrats took control of Congress.

I say vote them ALL out....Dems and Reps.

They have not been doing their job so they should all lose it unless they can prove otherwise, like a Dennis Kucinich...the one's who have a record of doing good for the public and have stood up against special interests.

not really, the dems haven't done their job. in 2006 they were voted in to stop the war among other things...and what did pelosi and reid do??? they caved in in no time to bush when THEY had the majority!! they swore to end the war and what did they do? give in every single time. they claimed to have cared about the illegal wiretapping and what did they do? they just changed the law so what they are doing is legal now...vote em all out! the majority of both parties don't deserve ANY support.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. One domino needs to tip in order for all of them to start crashing down. That domino was GW Bush's second term. You cannot blame Dems for Bush's mistakes in office!

i guess beating up on the republicans and their insane aganda and assult on this country has become too easy or passe' so now people are shifting their attention, and blame, towards the people that got stuck with the clean up duty...

surely you can understand the dems have the majority and it doesn't help when your 'progressive, natural leader' obama doesn't even bother to vote on issues like the wiretapping

so the president vetoed it and...congress said 'ok' and gave up and gave in to bush. they were elected to perform the will of the ppl, which overwhelmingly is out of iraq, single payer health care...which they, and your candidate, seem to be against

i am not defending anyone, i am just pointing out the reality that the BILL WAS VETO'D BY THE PRESIDENT... and that they could not get the votes required to overturn it... perhaps you forgot the 49% of the congress that is republican?

this is how the system works.. like it or not... thats how it works... and the Democrats are not going to cut off funding with 150,000 troops and equipment half way across the world in a war zone. i cant say i blame them for that... we dont need troops being bailed out by helicopter off of embassy roofs... if you are going to do it you have to do it right... this is part of the neocon plan... break it, own it, and make it real fucking hard to leave... this isnt like wrapping up the end of the day and going home from work my friend... i want them home tommorow, just like you... but the reality iof the situation is Bush is commander in thief and has veto power.

That's exactly why I say vote them all out. Except for the ones like Kucinich, who were brave enough to not vote to fund Bush's war....the rest can get the fuck out because they can't even get 2/3 of them together to represent the people's wants and end this war. you call that a majority? i call that a dead heat

you need 65 votes in the senate to overturn the presidents veto... call me crazy, but i dont see that math working

I'm putting them blame on almost all of them because that's where it belongs. It's very short sighted to think that all of our woes are due to the Republicans. Not hardly.

well, that a great excuse for our elected representatives being political cowards! just give in and vote yes!

perhaps you forgot not every single republican is for this war? the dems can block the funding from being approved, but instead you and others allow them this excuse of 'well, what can they do?' which is bullshit.

and it's obvious something could be pushed through quickly for supplies for our troops, they can do this w/o approving the entire bloated budget for the occupation of iraq.

the bottom line is the majority of americans want an end to the occupation and the politicians don't care. the majority of americans want a single payer health care system (which you somehow claim they are not ready for?) and instead we get more of the same (only real difference is you can get a public plan if no one else will ensure you and if you don't have any insurance, like car insurance, you will be fined if caught)

they are not doing their job representing us, they are doing nothing but constantly give in and sell out. as you named ppl like kucinich, it doesn't stop his vote

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

the statements about the change of 2006 is misleading, the Dem's don't have enough of a majority to do anything. Bush and the Republican's are most reponsible, in this day and age, voting against what's popular get's you replaced, so the Dem's in 2002 - 2005 were gutless, and the whole system is a mess, corrupt, etc...but don't through the Democrats in the same boat as Bush and his croanies, we've not had this abusive an administration maybe ever.

Regardless, Mr Rose is wrong in another sense, it's not 545 people, it's the hundreds of millions of eligible citizen voters that are to blame.

I love it that these are the columns that are coming out now. Finally the stench of political bullshit is so high it has to make it to the main stream media.

With all due respect to Charlie Reese though, he's slightly incorrect in his first paragraph.

Our Government like our corporations are full of people who knowingly create problems in order to devise solutions to their own problems... so bill lumbergs stock can go up one quarter of a percent....

Essentially, people vote for the wrong reasons.

Conservatives vote on morals and liberals vote money out of other peoples paychecks.

Political campaigns are no different than most corporate BS meetings (see IBM Business Bingo commercial) There are a lot of people in HR and higher posititions who don't find that funny, because they are the people that knit our wool face scarfs to keep us warm and fuzzy while they screw us on the back end and act like we don't know what's going on.

Great read though, thanks for posting.

I'll try not to be so negative. He's spot on in his analysis, but in the long run, people will continue to vote on Race or Morals or "Experience" or what this greasy bastard pushed through for me and not the things that matter.

Georgia's Politicians have really let me down of late.

Republican/Democrat... it dosen't freaking matter, they are all in bed with each other. They don't give a shit about you. They care about retaining power and control, and they are doing a hell of a great job at that.

Think about it at it's most effective.... our government.... is in stagnation or maintaining the status quo mainly just wasting time and money. They really do a whole lot of talking without a lot of anything good happening, kind of like the average corporation. Preach loyalty, practice fucking the low man.

Corporate Management especially in the middle is at it's best, when they leave people alone to do job.

Hell that even works in the military. The Army... lots of beuacracy lots of bullshit lots of problems with beuracracy.

The Marines, Far less political bullshit, far more effective operations, but far less politically correct in their operations as well. That's why they do most of the front line work, and the occupying forces have always been army.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

i am also not going to completely blame the problems faced by 300,000,000 people on 545 people...

    thats going a bit far

no one has a gun to the heads of americans telling them to charge flat screen TV's to thier visa and drive cars they cant afford...
