Starvation is a creation of the devil
    a rebel
I'm bringin' food to the people like a widow
brinin' flowers to a grave in the middle
of the city isolation is a riddle
to be surrounded by a million other people
but feel alone like a tree in the desert
dried up like the skin of a lizard
but full of color like the spots of a leopard
drum and bass pull me in like a sheperd
scratch my itch like a needle on a record
full of life like a man gone to Mecca
sky high like an eagle up soaring
I speak low but I'm like a lion roaring
    baritone like a Robeson recordin'
I'm giving thanks for bein' human every morning...

Because the streets are alive with the sound of Boom Bap
can I hear it once again!
Boom Bap tell your neighbor tell a friend
every box gotta right to be boomin'
because the streets are alive with the sound of Boom Bap
can I hear it once again!
Boom Bap tell your neighbor tell a friend
every flower got a right to be bloomin'!
    Stay Human!

    Be resistant
the negativity we keep it at a distance
call for backup and I'll give you some assistance
like a lifesaver deep in the ocean
stay afloat here upon the funky motion
rock and roll upon the waves of the season
hold your breath and your underwater breathin'

To be rhymin' without a real reason
is to claim but not to practice a religion
is television is the drug of the nation
    satelite is immaculate reception
beaming in they can look and they can listen
so you see don't believe in the system
to legalize you or give you your freedom
you want rights ask'em, they'll read 'em
but every flower gotta right to be bloomin'
    stay human...

All the freaky people make the beauty of the world

You see Y2K ya know is a moment
in time we find that we can open
up a heart that's locked or been broken
by the pain of the words not spoken
or shot by guns a still smokin'
    Cartwrights out on the Ponderosa
or drive by bang in Testarossa
we need to heed the words of Dalai Lama
or at least the words of ya mama
take a mental trip to the Bahamas
steam your body in a stereo sauna, sauna, comma....

ALL THE FREAKY PEOPLE MAKE THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD

Yes quite a powerful quote....Neil made his name and mark traveling to the moon... at 14 he knew how to fly planes before he got a driver's license.

Anyway this one goes out to the place he came to be known upon his visit...

    *Earthshine*....RUSH In Rio

    On certain nights
    When the angles are right
And the moon is a slender crescent

    It's circle shows
    In a ghostly glow
    Of earthly luminescence

    Earthshine
    A beacon in the night
I can raise my eyes to
    Earthshine
    Earthshine
    A jewel out of reach
Form a dream to rise to
    Earthshine

    Floating high
    In the evening sky
    I see my faint reflection

    Pale facsimile
    Like what others see
When they look in my direction

    Earthshine
    Stretching out your hand
    Full of starlit diamonds
    Earthshine

    Reflected light
    To another's sight
And the moon tells a lover's story

    My borrowed face
And my third - hand grace
    Only reflect your glory

    You're still out of reach
Form a dream to rise to
    Earthshine

    Quote on it's meaning...
FenJazz - yes indeed. Also wonderful poetry in "Pale facsimile, Like what others see, When they look in my direction" he's saying looking at the moon like this should show a faint image of the Earth (light reflected from the Earth afterall) but it's not an accurate image. Similarly, he doesn't think people see the real image when they look at him or read his words - just a "pale facsimile" - you only get a vague impression of the real man, and it's likely that everyone sees a different thing ... just like we do when interpretting his songs!! :-)

"Pale facsimile" - I like that.

This one's been rolling around in my head all morning - though I'm feeling just fine and nowhere near cracking :)

Dream Theater - *Prophets of War*

It burns deep down inside of me
    We have ourselves to blame
Not questioning, accepted as the truth

Debate this fight it's just cause
The facts do not support theirs
    To liberate a people
And rid them of tyrant rule

Is it time to make a change
    Are we closer than before
Can we help them break away
    Are we profiting from war
It's time to make a change

    Intrigued
    Got your attention - Deceived
Since the inception - Our brave
    Fight for what reason

    Compelled
Can we clean up this mess
    The loss of loved ones
    A perverse request
    They continue the same rhetoric
    These derelicts that profit
    Win or lose

Is it time to make a change
    Are we closer than before
Can we help them break away
    Are we profiting from war
It's time to make a change

    Time for change
    Fight the fear
    Find the truth
    Time for change

    The only thing
    That I believe
Will help us see this through is faith
    Pray they will forgive
    Forgive our arrogance
So we could make it right
    Right what they have wronged

    See you sweat
    Unexpected, controversial
    Get used to it
    Things are gonna get personal
    Your sympathy
    A pitiful display you stutter
    Your empathy
Means nothing if there is no honor
    Responsible
    Of this you are incapable
    We implicate
Incriminate - Exacerbate - Too much at stake

    Our Fathers, Mothers
    Sisters, Brothers
    Sons and Daughters
    Forced
    Perpetuating their ideals
    A mindless act
    To stay the course

Is it time to make a change
    Are we closer than before
Can we help them break away
    Are we profiting from war

Is it time to make a change
A change from what it's been
Can we help them break away
    Is our patience wearing thin
It's time to make a change

    Time for change
    Fight the fear
    Find the truth
    Time for change

    Peace

Today is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. My work gave us all the day off too, for which I'm thankful - completely digging this ME time.

It's a bittersweet day of sorts too - one week short of five years since my father died. This holiday (along with Yom Kippur next week) meant so much to him, his family, and his history.

Despite his hopes, I didn't follow in his religious footsteps, but in terms of his character? I try, always - he's my barometer of decency, of gentleness, of living an honorable, honest life with a giant-sized sense of humor. Also my barometer of being true to oneself, even if that means falling short sometimes.

This song, for whatever reason, reminds me of him.

Well...somehow I fucked up my math and added another year on to the time since my father died. I wonder how my mind/subconscious came to that.

Yet more shit to think on.

Anyway, we've been listening to Ty Cobb a lot lately and it fits my state of mind this morning - in a general sense.

I also love how they came up with the song title -
"It was basically coming from the frame of mind of some sort of hardcore pissed-off idiot, and that's why we titled it that. We weren't writing the song about Ty Cobb at all—I didn't even know anything about him. I was just thinking of a character who was a combination of a lot of people I've met and didn't like."

    Have a good, non-pissed-off Friday, all :P

winded is the sailor...drifting by the storm...
wounded is the organ he left all...bloodied on the shore...
gorgeous was his savior, sees her...drowning in his wake...
daily taste the salt of her tears, but...a chance blamed fate...
    little secrets, tremors...turned to quake...
the smallest oceans still get...big, big waves...
ransom paid the devil...he whispers pleasing words...
triumphant are the angels if they can...a get there first...
    little secrets tremors...turned to quake...
the smallest oceans still get...big, big waves...
    i'll decide...take the dive...
    take my time...not my life...
    wait for signs...believe in lies...
    to get by...it's divine...whoa...
oh, you know what it's like...
turns the bow back, tows and...drops the line...
puts his faith in love and tremor christ...
    hear my name
    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand
    lie beside me
    i just need to say

    "Don't fret precious I'm here
    Step away from the window
    Go back to sleep

    Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
    Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
    Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Pay no mind what other voices say
    They don't care about you
    Like I do
    Like I do
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils
See they don't give a fuck about you
    Like I do

    Just stay with me
    Safe and ignorant
    Go back to sleep
    Go back to sleep

    Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
    Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
    Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices son
One and the same I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself

Swaying to the rhythm of the new world order and
    Count the bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drum
    The boogeymen are coming
    The boogeymen are coming
Keep your head down go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

    Stay with me
    Safe and ignorant
    Just stay with me
Hold you and protect you from the other ones
    The evil ones
    Don't love you son
    Go back to sleep"

For all the hours here that move too slow
There's all this letting go, that don't pass
If all this love is real, how will we know?
If we're only scared of losing it, how will it last?

If I am a stranger now to you
I will always be, I will always be
Stronger now then me, stronger then you
    Our love will always be
And if we let it go, I will try to be there for you
    If I can, what if I can't?

Today is yesterday when you don't know
How to rebuild the walls that someone has knocked down
To tell the truth it's hard enough about a lover
Who you want to hide your darkness from
So they won't let you down

If I am a stranger now to you
I will always be, I will always be
Stronger now then me, stronger then you
    Our love will always be
And if we let it go, I will try to be there for you
I will try and be there for you
    If I can, what if I can't?

For all the hours here that move to slow
There's all this letting go, that won't pass
If all this love is real, how will we know?

    One of my favourite songs/lyrics,

    TATTOO OF HER NAME- VAST

She told me he was beating her today
And she showed me all the bruises on her face
I said, baby, can I make it all OK
She said, honey, you should make him go away

There's a hundred thousand dollars in the bank
And the policy he took out yesterday
We can live outside the country for awhile
Until things smooth over and get under control

There's a tattoo of your name across my soul

I bought a rifle and black guns without a name
For an alibi she went six states away
When I saw him I felt fire I felt cold
Like the devil and the lord wanted my soul

Like the tattoo of your name across my soul

So I shot him in his car until he died
I called to give the signal and she cried
Life has a way of making other plans
She called the cops and said I was a crazy man

I'm gonna get this thing removed when I can

    There was never any policy
And the bruises came from falling on the street
So the judge gave me one hundred thousand years
In the courtroom she was filling up with tears

I saw her hold the lawyer's hand real tight
They looked tired from lack of sleep last night
Seems the whole time she had me under control

With a tattoo of her name across my soul

She gets off and I will never have parole

Just this tattoo of your name across my soul
Just this tattoo of your name across my soul
“ "Thank you Palestrina. It’s a wonderful evening, it’s great to be here and I wanna dedicate you a super sexy song." " (last words of Mark Sandman of Morphine)

This one from the classic 2.gif album 2112. My thoughts of politicians doing their politricking of people and the citizenry. Give a little listen....

    The Twilight Zone

A pleasant faced man steps up to greet you
He smiles and says he's pleased to meet you
Beneath his hat the strangeness lies
Take it off, he's got three eyes
Truth is false and logic lost
Now the fourth dimension is crossed

You have entered the Twilight Zone
Beyond this world strange things are known
Use the key, unlock the door
See what your fate might have in store
    Come explore your dreams' creation
    Enter this world of imagination

Wake up lost in an empty town
Wondering why no one else is around
Look up to see a giant boy
You've just become his brand new toy
No escape, no place to hide
Here where Time and Space collide

    ....but only fool themselves.

    Peace

Huge fan of that version (not to mention the subject matter  )

Speaking of the fucking man, MY fucking man and I were talking earlier about politics and how fitting this line from The Pot is - "Liar, lawyer, mirror, show me. What's the difference?"

I'd say this fits too -
"Rob the grave, to snow the cradle.
    Then burn the evidence down.
Soapbox, house of cards, and glass,
So don't go tossin' your stones around."

Aagh! I need a fix. That voice! And...mind.

Listen to that crowd, too. Sounds like us when we saw 'em 8-)

One of the first songs I learned on piano....

    October....U2

    October
And the trees are stripped bare
    Of all they wear
    What do I care
    October
    And kingdoms rise
    And kingdoms fall
    But you go on

    Peace
*We CAN bomb the World to pieces, but we CAN'T bomb it into PEACE*...Michael Franti

*MUSIC IS the expression of EMOTION.....and that POLITICS IS merely the DECOY of PERCEPTION*
    .....song_Music & Politics....Michael Franti

*The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite INSANE*....Nikola Tesla(a man who shaped our world of electricity with his futuristic inventions)
