To be much more optimistic and hopeful regarding the world, it's affairs and the people living in it. John was really a light for us all. His heart was full of love for humanity.

    Absolutely. :)

What I loved about John Lennon was that he was able to stay so positive through all the adversity. He was really quite a leader.

I watched this finally the other night, great documentary. How much we could use John's leadership and insight right now w/ the existing Iraq occupation, would really get the truth out there that the world is truly in shambles like it has never been before. He sought truth and peace because he simply believed in it all, no hidden agendas. Pure genuineness, and there's no one else like him, sadly!

    imagine = great song :)

    Imagine there's no liberals
    It's easy if you try
    No Feminazi's
    None of Billy's lies
    No environmental wackos
    Lying to our kids
You, you may not like Bill Clinton
Well, you're not the only one

Imagine the truth about the 80's
    Even if you can
    High schools without condoms
And no brand new health plan
    Imagine all the people
    Paying their own way
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But, I'm not the only one
We should have listened to Rush Limbaugh
Then maybe George Bush might have won Bush I I think

    Imagine Hillary baking cookies
    I know it's very hard
    No lesbians playing soldier
Or dragging tracks in the yard
    What if Ronald Reagan
    Could have had four terms
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
    I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll read "See I Told You So"
Then the world will live as one

:) i'm just bustin' 'em on yah :)
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

I just got my copy in the mail Saturday! I'm glad you liked it. :)

I think there are people like him still but they are subjected to much more cynicism and ridicule by those who seek to discredit this kind of ideology than John had back then. He had some of it, as well...but these days people prefer to insult one another and make harsh judgements rather than exchange opinions civilly.

Just watched John Lemon vs. the US film and feel like babbling.

People don’t like change or anything that’s different. That’s why I live the life that I do. (i'm disabled) Nixon was fearful of the hippie movement. Why did he try to control those kids with guns? Those kids where no physical threat. Terrible things happen to them because the president didn’t like change and opposition. He was fearful. But why fear what makes this country great? Freedom to protest and be different.

Why did history seem to repeat itself so quickly? Bush grew up in the Nixon era so why has he made the same mistake? I agree we have to defend ourselves against terrorist, but why are we fixing another country’s problem? Like I said before people don’t like change. Especially when’s coming from a third outside party I bet. Why when we are at war and there’s an election for a new president, why do people insist on sticking with the same guy? Is it patriotism? ‘Oh, I must vote for the guy leading the war, or I won’t be a good citizen.’ It’s people being stupid. Maybe a war needs fresh eyes. Not that same man who if is elected again might be thinking like he’s in the clear and can do what ever he wants. I think with some presidents, that second term they feel like they aren’t in the hot seat anymore and run with it. Almost the same thing has happened 40 years ago. Why can’t people see that? It makes me angry people have let that happen again. But then I compare it to my story and I’m really not that surprised it has happened again. People don’t like change and anything that’s different is feared. I really think that’s part of human wiring. It’s a shame. I draw my opinion from when the Roman Empire was conquered. Why didn’t they adopt the water and toilet technology? Aslo the fighting in the holy land. They’ve been fighting forever. So why should they change? Civilization has been warring since the beginning of time, that's what we do. Why ‘change’ now? I guess a lot of it has to do with education. People need to learn what’s happened in history to make a clear decision of what they want in the future. I just can’t believe it’s happened again, and so soon. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, a good part of the time people make me sick.

History repeats itself because people are addicts. They rely on past feelings and situations to guide them into the future because it's easier that way. In order to move forward and drop the addiction to all of this we're seeing, you have to let go of your crutches, your doubts and fears and being willing to try a new way that has yet to be explored. John tried to show people a better way... he lived his life that way and to me it was beautiful.

You raise many a good point.

Why is it that some people still think, to this day, that war and/or military action is needed in a country where we don't live or understand the culture?

Why is it that some people still think, to this day, that we can invade another country and bring peace and democracy in our wake?

Why is it that some people still think, to this day, that John Lennon's statements, lyrics and actions were a US threat?

I don't think that people are naturally fearful of change, I think it's society that breeds that fear into us. And we allow that to happen. If thinking proactively with Change in mind brings out the worst in the people who fear it, then we need to: A) educate people on thinking for themselves, and B) Get a leader in the White House that promotes change. A leader like John in charge (although we could never replicate John) would totally change our world for the better. Has anyone else demonstrated the positive outlook and sincerity that John did?

Well true, education is the bottom line. Ignorance breeds fear.

But don’t you think if society wasn’t so stubborn when it comes to change, we’d be a lot further along then we’re now? It’s my opinion humans are very set in their ways when it comes to certain issues. <--- lol. i see i agree with you there too, society. people aren't afraid i guess it's the leaders that are. ew but wait, don't we the 'people' elect them? so maybe people are afraid of change. ha! - which side i'm i on right?

I’m with Angelina Jolie. Educate those kids in the Middle East. If we insist on getting involved, start from the bottom. By educating them they might not feel backed into a hole. From what I understand the poor see it as a way out of poverty if they join a terrorist group.

…and you know what? I thought of another example. If people weren’t afraid of change, I would’ve not been made out to be a racist when I was curious about a change I saw in a culture on this board a while ago. In my eyes my society calms to be accepting…equal for all, but people that make up society will always be leery of differences.

when i say people, i don't mean everybody but i do mean the majority.

  • Actually most people in the world DON'T want war. At least, not until their GOVERNMENTS do their damnedest to convince the people that they either WANT or NEED it.

And the more i research, the more it seems like the majoirty of modern wars were actually started at the political string pulling of VERY WEALTHY, VERY POWERFUL people who DESIRE WAR IN ORDER TO PROFIT FROM ... usualy on BOTH "SIDES" OF THE WAR.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
