What is it that attracts people to the darker side of things (for lack of better words right now. I'm sick. Give me a break)???

I'm curious because I'm one of those people.

    Some people use little green arrows to mark that they're being sarcastic on line. :)

    (At least, some people over at RedMosquito do that.)

    i think what attracts some people to 'the dark side' lord vader ;) is the fact that our society suppresses it so virilently. we are taught from a very early age to be happy happy happy, and if you are not, then there is something wrong with you. personally i think that people who smile all the time are the ones with the problem. by suppressing what is a totally natural balance in our lives, society makes 'the dark side' taboo. and that is always attractive to people. the rest are just in denial or control freaks. :)

    I was teasing you about the fact that you thought it would be hard to find people who liked depressing dark stuff on a PJ board.

    Good point about that catefrances! Do you think it is more common to those who have experienced abuse in their past or just a personality quirk?

    it's all just shadows and lies V_baby! i embrace all my sides. but it turns out i am just not a happy person. it requires too much energy from me and i'm not prepared to put on a happy face for anyone let alone society. no one will ever be able to say,'wow i never saw that side of her before' cause i show all my sides. just some more often than others. tell me to lighten up and i'll tell you to fuck off. :D and i won't be joking.
    plus i wouldn't define an attraction to 'the dark side' as a personality quirk. by expressing it in that way you are playing into the hands of societal 'norms'. which when you think about it are anything but normal(what ever that is)

    While sitting on a bench, waiting for my class to start (back in highschool) a girl walked over and asked me how I was doing. this is how the conversation went...

    : girl : Hi. How are you doing?
    : me : uh...fine.
    : girl : that's good. just thought I would come over and tell you good morning
    : me : oh...well thank. Good morning to you too
    : girl : you know, I used to be like you
    : me : what are you talking about
    : girl : I used to be like you. Wanting to commit suicide. Until I found jesus
    : me : uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (at this point I was completely dumbfounded and didn't know what to say)
    : girl : you need a relationship with god. Take this flyer (hands me a church flyer). Bye.

    Could be. They've been known to cause eyesight problems later on in life. The eyes do not completely rest while there is light.

    The dark side is fascinating, it's unconventional, taboo. It explores emotions and thoughts that are not usually spoken of....

    Reminds me a bit of this:

    I actually gets comments like "Justin, you okay? Why are you so angry"
    It always surprises me because I rarely am very angry.


    I was going to say something along the lines of "I've already got a relationship with god. It's purely physical. He screws me."

    But I try to be respectful of other peoples personal beliefs.

    Anyway, I can contribute my....uh....it sounds so corny....darkness...:: shakes head :: to getting me laid for the first time.

    why? she made the assumption that you didn't already have a relationship with God. i would have shot her down purely because of that. it aggravates the hell out of me that some people think your life has less meaning or is incomplete because you are not a believer. if i need saving i'll let you know. if i need God in my life then I will come to the church. i don't need them trying to sell themselves to me like a door to door salesman. i find that disrespectful.

    become very confrontational, then I realized how sad they really are.....so now I just respectfully say no thank you as I'm being approached..that pretty much ends it.

    when they come knocking on my door i am respectful. i tell them i'm not interested and when they ask why not i tell them that i am an atheist. i then inform them that yes i do read the bible(as i would any other book on my shelves) and that i have no doubt that jesus christ was a real person. but in no way do i believe that jesus was divine. when they try to impress upon me their literature 'just in case', i decline.
