zach delarocha's political outrage gets boring, imo. he needs to focus on exploring new artistic boundaries rather than just plain ol' whinnin and complainin.

It really is... he will never change anything or inspire others to do so... it's only enough to say "Yeah! he's right!" as they sit in their room listening to him on their iPod.

true because thousands if not tens of thousands of people don't know who the Zapatistas or Mumia (sic) are because of rage against teh machine or anything, they didn't politicize anyone while they were together

  • if there's anything better coming from mexico either zapatistas or whatnot then that's Cafe Tacuba. and much better than rage against the machine they are.

Zach has inspired many people who otherwise wouldn't have had any interest in the cause he supports.

I am one of them. I became politically active the summer of 2000. I just got into rage then. I live in Hippie central Oregon, where the hippies run wild, and had some radical teacher but never, NEVER was taught in school about Mumia, Peltier, the zapatistas etc... That education came from Rage.

Sure, Rage sold millions of records. Millions were probably all about Morello's guitar solos and Zach's flow, but millions were also inspired by their political message. Same with Ed's lyrics. Same with Joe Strummer's lyrics, Same with jello biafra. You have a segment that is into changing the world and listens to the band and educates themselves, and other fans are complete meatheads, who are all about groping female crowdsurfers.

Rage changed my life. I was politicized because of them. And to suggest I am the only one is absurd. I am not alone.

I know people who are like me, and have been altered and politicized by music, and that music to them isnt some kind of thing you throw on in the car and forget. Music is participatory, even for the audience.

For all the haters, it was well documented that at the 99 WTO battle of seattle a large amount of Rage fans came down and protested. Go to any Free Mumia protest or Free Peltier protest. Theres going to be a Rage cohort there. I should know. I went to a benefit/birthday celebration for Peltier back in the day.

I think its naive to think that music fans are brainless idiots who dont have a conscience. You ever heard Punk Rock? Dead Kennedys, the clash, the exploited, propaghandi, rancid?

You dont need the entire country or entire Rage listener base to rise up and deny their Middle Class roots. You only need 5 percent of the country, of the audience. 5 percent. Thats all.

Its naive to say music cant change the world and cant educate people and politicize people to action and cause. Band members we all know and love certainly feel music can change the world and can cause people to become activists, and ask Uncle Bruce, Uncle neil, Tom Morello, Kathleen Hanna, Beastie Boys, etc... if they think music is effective in trying to spread a political message?

I dont think every rage listener read those books on the liner notes for Evil Empire, but you have to believe some did. I did. And I know I am not alone

How many people took the time to learn about Leonard Peltier after seeing Freedom on MTV?

How many people took the time to get involved in freeing Mumia after they included his information in the liner notes to the final record?

How many people checked out info about Subcomandante Marcos after Zack talked about them?

How many people read up on Chomsky after they had an interview with him on Battle for Mexico City DVD?

My guess is millions didnt, but thousands DID!

Yeah, I say Zach was one of my inspirations. The amount of intensity and passion he puts out there I've always admired. What of it?

Did anyone else catch what Ann Coulter said about what Zack said at Coachella? I saw her on one of the news channels last night, I forget which one maybe CNN. She said that Rage was just some band that broke up 10 years ago and how Zack tried to do other projects which failed miserably. She also kept saying how no one knew who Rage was, that really bothered me. To top it off, she then said How Rage were a bunch of losers and how their fans are a bunch of losers.

^ I live in europe and I know very well RATM, but I don't know who is Ann Coulter. Her point is moot.

18 year olds are not children.

    Have you got children?

I have a 17 year old son, 18 in October and he is pretty mature for his age but believe me at 18 they are in no way classed as adults either...

Rise up and deny their middle class roots? I probably shouldn't go down this road but what exactly do you mean by that?

It was Fox. She also suggested that the band should be investigated by the secret service for the 'terrorist threats' made by Zach. As if this was not proof enough that Fox news is the biggest pile of biased shit to ever hit our screens, then you need look no further than who joined her on the 'panel' - yes, you guessed it, supposedly giving the view of the 'rock community', everyones favourite redneck - Ted Nugent.

Rage was awesome 10 years ago. Zach leaves the band to pursue a solo career and it is a complete failure, so he's gotta come back and say something like this to get everyones attention, especially the Secret Service.

What im saying is, RATM days are over....this just feels like Van Halen all over again

a rock album won't change the world.

but it will make you feel better about wanting to change it.

and i know it's been said, but seriously man, i don't consider "old age" to be anything younger than 60.

i don't think the Bush Administration should be hung or shot or whatever. but they should be tarred and feathered and forced to live on a Chickenhawk Farm where only Dick Cheney is allowed to have a gun.
