Dave Chapelle is extremely funny; but his use of the word, n*gga is highly disrespectful and promotes such. Ask any keepin' it real black brother and they will tell ya so. Try being any other color but black and using the term around some narrow minded bros and sista's and see how far you get. You will either get your ass kicked or cited for tresspassing becasue you couldn't get away quik enough. ;)

    Anyone watch everybody hates chris?

If I used the term out of Jest and some dude took offense to it and actually tried to hurt me, I'd crack his skull. That's just stupid.

A couple of my black friends from work joke with me about Chappelle Show all the time. We play around saying quotes from the show but I always leave out the N word because I just can't say it around them even jokingly... it's just too weird. But they think it's so 'cute' that I won't say and even try to coax me into saying it. They have always said that it is obvious when someone is joking and when someone is being offensive, especially when we are just talking about a comedy show and are good friends..

    Hey A & abook!
Thanks for replying. Yesterday my beloved s/m was buzzing a bit and he didn't have any tobacco; so he mozied across the street from his family's cabin and tried to make a trade. He said he was talking to them and out of his mouth came those taboo words. I am not exagerrating when he came home, he was all anxiety ridden. He said that the elders didn't find offense in the word, but the younger adults told him to get off their property. He looked at the elders and they said, "We know you mean no harm; but it's not our place and they want you to go.." He left. When we talked about it, I reminded him that he is of the white race in times where everyonne is sensitive to even the slightest error. Do you think that both of you live in areas where you are familiar with environment and know how to navigate, and that his example could be becasue of a povertized, unintelligibe mindset. He could not believe he was taken seriously... My community is probably 70% red-neck, 15% Mis hermanos and 15% blacks (and blacks are newer residents, coming from Oakland, Richmond, Bay Area). He felt so unnerved today; he compared it to fear of being arrested. How can I help him? My best to both of you.

book: u know i value your insights; i come to you with open ears...and by rednecks; i mean uneducated poverty oriented and that mentality....no disrespect....help me to abolish confusion...tx.book

I love Chapelle! Loved his show and love his standup. I think his show was very clever and fresh. I think, in addition to TV political issues, he wanted to end his show on a high note, much like Jerry Seinfeld & Larry David did with
    'Seinfeld'.

Well, to be honest, I don't recall ever saying it to a black person, but I might have and nothing came out of it. I just think it's ignorant and childish to take serious offense to it and I wouldn't back down. I think many of the minorities and especially blacks use fear to control people, because white people are always afraid of saying something taboo, when really I don't think they take offense to it. I am in public all the time speaking my point of view, about homosexuals, blacks, natives, women, you name it, I speak my mind and I've yet to have someone approach me upset.

Cracking their skull may not be the best way to deal with it. But in self-defense I'd do anything, I'd try to use proportionate force, but sometimes that's not easy when your life is on the line.

While most reasonable people construe usage as taking power out of a word, as in Dave Chapelle's skits, there are many who still find the word dispicable. A new day has dawned for the s/m and he's still feeling leery about being at his family's cabin, I gave him input of folks here and he needed to stop and check himself. He continues to belive that words are words and nothing unless action is backing them. I would never feeel comfortable using that word, nor any other one except for who and what I am and u can call me gringo, or honky, crakkker, or even crazy....thanks for letting me apply a real life situation to this thread. ur 1 of the best.
