Chappelle's show

Anyone here a fan?
I think it will go down in history as one of the most important shows ever. His humor sort of mixes politics, race and satire all together. My question is, do any of you think he was successful in this arena, politically?
I definitely caught on to the political aspect of it, the race draft episode, the race fairy episode, etc... Very socially aware. Yet I wonder if his audience is as politically aware.
My understanding is the reason he walked away was because of politics, that several white crew members laughed to hard at some joke that he felt it bordered on racism. He wondered if he was reinforcing stereotypes as opposed to busting them.
Chappelle seems to be in the line of Pryor, carlin, cho, stewart, cross, bruce, he seems to understand, its fun to make people laugh, but their must be a greater purpose, a political and social purpose.
So whats y'all's take? Was chappelle successful in busting stereotypes and making youth politically aware, or was he merely a modern day step and fetch it (as he himself wondered)?

Not even close, really.
*shrugs*
^ you've never seen his show? O_O
Where the hell have you been for the last 3 years?
His standup is excellent btw
edit: He stopped the show for 2 reasons:
1. comedy central was trying to push him around.
and
2. the newer writing wasn't going to be as good as the original season and he hated the idea of people saying "well this show has certainly gone downhill"

He is a brilliant comedian and has a great understanding of people and the life we live today. Can't wait to see what he does next.

I think his show opened up a lot of discourse that may have seemed too taboo to discuss before.

If it's not a movie or available on the internet, I've never seen. I gave up cable TV 10 years ago. Best decision of my life

I just found that it was really expensive for what it's worth. I would want Comedy Central, Discovery Channel and that's about it. I'm not going to pay if $10/month for something that is 40% advertising. Especially with websites like http://www.saltwaterchimp.com and http://www.wwitv.com
yeah, his stand up is completely better than chappelle show was. i've got.......fuck, which one is it.........oh yeah, it's 'killing them softly'. lots of laughs on that one.
the only espisode of chappelles show that i really laughed hard at was the blind black white supremisist (sp?).

Yea, Killing them softly, that was the earlier one. The one where he says that quote. He also says "every black dude needs a white friend, need someone to talk to the cops" haha
He also says white guys that chill with black dudes are even scarier than the black dudes, because they must have done some real shit to get accepted by the black dudes. lol.
lmao, it's all coming back to me, i haven't watched it in a while. i'll have to pop that in when i get home tonight.
ernie: "dave.........i'm gonna race 'em."
dave: "shit man, when you gotta race, you gotta race."

Haha, he does a good white guy voice too. Haha when he talks to the baby selling weed, haha. "fuck you nigger, I got kids to feed"
Hahaha, crack heads running up to the car like jurassic park. So good.
I downloaded it before, but I gotta buy it, it's too good.

If I used the term out of Jest and some dude took offense to it and actually tried to hurt me, I'd crack his skull. That's just stupid.
FYI, I live in a neighbourhood that's about 50/50 black/white
A couple of my black friends from work joke with me about Chappelle Show all the time. We play around saying quotes from the show but I always leave out the N word because I just can't say it around them even jokingly... it's just too weird. But they think it's so 'cute' that I won't say and even try to coax me into saying it. They have always said that it is obvious when someone is joking and when someone is being offensive, especially when we are just talking about a comedy show and are good friends..

Thanks for replying. Yesterday my beloved s/m was buzzing a bit and he didn't have any tobacco; so he mozied across the street from his family's cabin and tried to make a trade. He said he was talking to them and out of his mouth came those taboo words. I am not exagerrating when he came home, he was all anxiety ridden. He said that the elders didn't find offense in the word, but the younger adults told him to get off their property. He looked at the elders and they said, "We know you mean no harm; but it's not our place and they want you to go.." He left. When we talked about it, I reminded him that he is of the white race in times where everyonne is sensitive to even the slightest error. Do you think that both of you live in areas where you are familiar with environment and know how to navigate, and that his example could be becasue of a povertized, unintelligibe mindset. He could not believe he was taken seriously... My community is probably 70% red-neck, 15% Mis hermanos and 15% blacks (and blacks are newer residents, coming from Oakland, Richmond, Bay Area). He felt so unnerved today; he compared it to fear of being arrested. How can I help him? My best to both of you.
book: u know i value your insights; i come to you with open ears...and by rednecks; i mean uneducated poverty oriented and that mentality....no disrespect....help me to abolish confusion...tx.book

Well, to be honest, I don't recall ever saying it to a black person, but I might have and nothing came out of it. I just think it's ignorant and childish to take serious offense to it and I wouldn't back down. I think many of the minorities and especially blacks use fear to control people, because white people are always afraid of saying something taboo, when really I don't think they take offense to it. I am in public all the time speaking my point of view, about homosexuals, blacks, natives, women, you name it, I speak my mind and I've yet to have someone approach me upset.
Cracking their skull may not be the best way to deal with it. But in self-defense I'd do anything, I'd try to use proportionate force, but sometimes that's not easy when your life is on the line.
Great med....and food for thought.
