How much do you spend on food in a week?

Oh man I am a human garbage disposal. My weekly food bill hovers around the $150 mark on any given week.

The other day I read a story about a woman who feeds her family of 4 on $100 a week using coupons and shopping at discount food stores.

Holy shit! A $100/week for a family of four. It just makes me feel like an over-indulgant pig. It really does.

So you're saying that some people must feed their entire families on 2/3 of what you spend just for yourself? Seems like the right forum to me.

I try and budget myself to a $100 a week... and that definitely takes restraint.

But then again, I only have my roommate and me to feed.

Usually far too much. I'm flat broke at the moment though so I've tightened my belt considerably. I think I spent around £20-£25 on food last week.

don't feel like "an over-indulgant pig".

i would be interested in what types of food this woman actually purchased. i wonder if it included tons of over-processed foods made in who knows where. i am more interested in supporting local growers than buying crap food.

I must admit, food is probably one of my biggest expenses by FAR.
I'm a single guy, I love to cook, and I usually go to the store almost every day to buy something for the day (usually dinner). I easily spend $150 a week on food, and groceries. It's like an addiction...I can't stop! LOL :D

I spend a lot more on food than I should because I tend to work long hours and then just feel exhausted when I get home--too exhausted to go shop and cook.

We spend on average $150 a week and we are 2 adults and 3 children under the age of 10 the youngest being 4.
We shop at out local supermarket and some items at BJ's

Your food bill seems a little for being just you but I guess if you can afford it, it' ok right? :)

My problem is that I only eat healthy food that doesn't fill me up, so I eat like almost twice as much.

I'm living with my g/f, we spend around 200-300/wk.

But things in the city are just expensive, so it's hard to save. I also try to buy mostly natural or Organic foods.

Myself, wife, and 2 year old (plus 4 cats and 2 dogs, one 50 pound, one 100 pounder) -- about $180 a week.

Grocery bill runs between $20 and $40 a week.

If you count eating out, add another $20 (3 or 4 times a week)

If you count going out drinking alcohol, add another $40 to $50 a week. (going out twice)

If I didn't like to go out drinking a few times a week, I could save a lot, but what fun would that be? :p ..I guess I spend about $100 a week in total consumption, but the alcohol half of that gets budgeted into entertainment rather than food when I figure my budget.
  • I used to be able to get away with $40-$50 AU but grocery prices have jumped recently so it more like $60-$80. Sucks because I'm not buying anything more, just the cost has gone up.

You just got to be informed man!

Luckily UGA has a "collegiate readership" program so I can get the University newspaper, a USA Today, and a New York Times everyday for free.

No. That would be too scratchy. Plus it might leave ink on my butt.

I should have added to my original post that the chicken is not for me, it is for my dog.

I live with my gf and my 2 years old daughter. We spend about 100-150 € per week.
It varies from a week to another though. Depending on where we buy stuff, sometimes we spend 75-100 € for a week, sometimes, it 's more around 150 €.
