33 Million Americans turned 18 yrs. old during the Bush Administration's run in office so far (source - Rollingstone).

In the 2004 General Election Bush had roughly 62 million votes to 59 Million votes for Kerry.

If you think about that...It means that the youth have a major chance to let their voices be heard in this next election. No matter who you vote for...if you are not voting...you are not being a responsible citizen!

This is our time everyone, this is our planet...lets make a difference!!! There may not be a more important election in our country's history!

So Register to vote NOW!!!

The only way the vote will be important is if the voters have access to information.

The way to make a difference is to find a way to put an end media information being driven by profit. News and information must be accurate - or the vote is a joke.

I agree. People need to know everything there is to know about these candidates instead of going on hunches, sound bytes, loose promises, publicity tours and charisma.

    Well said.

Let me add, if you're not informed, please don't vote out of some false sense of obligation. And if you can't figure out how to register, it probably means you shouldn't be voting.

I personally don't like "get out the vote" campaigns. They cater to the lowest common denominator.

I don't mind 'get out the vote' campaigns so much...I just think they should add much more emphasis on educating yourself about the candidates and the issues before you vote. All of that should be included in your vote....not just, hmmm, he looks good to me. Maybe it would be much better use of time/energy to create Get Involved and Aware...then Vote campaigns and have those plastered all over mtv.

I like that idea. Get involved and aware. The voting piece would naturally follow. I just think focusing only on voting turnout numbers puts the cart before the horse.

And I like your "imperial candidate" sig!

Yeah, you're right. Besides if you go out and vote just to vote...chances are you're gonna vote for the shittiest candidate out there who they've decided to smear all over the idiot box.

And thanks! :) It's good to know that though we disagree on soooo much, we can agree on standing behind your principles (and that's a biggie). Lovers of principle unite!! :D

You are so so right there with what you are saying abook. In Australia, anyone over the age of 18 must enrol to vote. It is compulsory by law to enrol and compulsory by law to attend a polling place at election time. Fines are imposed on you if you do not. Many people go because they have to vote, not because they want to. So you'd have to wonder the thought they put into who/why they are voting (if any). For some of them anyway.

one step at a time people. if you are not registered to vote...then you certainly will not take the time to learn about the candidates. If you register to vote...that shows initiative...and you will start movement to becoming an educated voter.

The main problem w/ the U.S. in my opinion is APATHY. more people vote for American Idol then the presidency. That has got to change!

I belive the most important thing to do is get yourself educated before you go and vote. An uninformed electorate isn't going to do the country any good.

    So, please, stay home.

I'll be honest w/ you...I couldn't disagree more. Telling people not to vote for any reason is not going to make a democracy better in any way.

    JaneNY I loved your post!

Telling dumbasses to vote just to vote gets us more of the same.

Do you define better democracy simply in terms of turnout?

I don't judge people to be dumbasses. I think we are all thinking beings, thus we are intelligent enough to make a decision. I don't think pure number's change anything...but if someone takes the time to register to vote that is not currently registered...they'll also take some time to think about who they will want to vote for.

How would you determine who is intelligent enough to vote anyway?

voting won't mean shit if we don't get rid of electronic voting machines.

This story is me, I am the guy who lost by 1.

IN ULSTER, incumbent Republican Joel Brink was declared the winner over Democrat PJ_Lukin by one vote, 1,820-1,819, after absentee and affidavit ballots were counted - twice. (The first count of the day gave PJ_Lukin a one-vote edge over Brink.)

PJ_Lukin, who led by seven votes going into Thursday, has 10 days to challenge the result. He said Thursday night that he was uncertain of what action he might take, if any.

We still use the old fashioned lever machines with a paper report. We have to upgrade the machines in our county and have already stated that without a psychical paper trail, it will not be considered.

Electronic voting machines are devices that are too easily compromised. Eventually, that is exactly what will happen, an election will be compromised due to fraud with these machines.

Yup. The contests between the major parties always come down to a choice between dumb and dumber.

Come on America, please register to vote. How many times have you heard Eddie V implore you to get involved in the political process.

OK, so you mightn't think you can do much good to change things, but this type of thinking is just plain wrong. Look what my country - Australia - just did - voted out a government of 11 1/2 years in times of record low unemployment, good economic times. This all because the Government (conservatives like your Republicans) lost touch with its citizens in so many areas of importance to everyday Australians - security of employment and wages, education policy, the Iraq situation, health policy - just to name a few.
You don't have to be an Einstein to learn about politics either.

So from one PJ fanatic to all others out there - get involved and encourage friends and family to get involved, you'll feel all the better for it.

Now I feel better for that rant!!!

Love and peace to you all.
