Ron Paul blew me away in the Fox news debate. He is the only Republican candidate that speaks intelligently and he uses proof to back up his policy assertions which is a breath of fresh air.

The Republican primaries will be a a long serving litmus test as to the power of the organized mainstream media vs a grassroots campaign.

No. The GOP primaries will be a litmus test the party establishment vs. an insignificant grassroots campaign.

Guess who's gonna come out on top?

Perhaps it's time to stop bitching about the politicians and go straight for the source: The voters.

I agree completely with you. Read the stickied thread above about registering to vote.

I am against get out the vote campaigns, voter registration drives, automatically being registered when you get your drivers license, etc... That brings in the least common denominator. It just takes one mouthbreather to cancel out one intelligent and informed vote.

i agree on premise, but the plight of the average voter has to beg some sympathy.

Translation: you can't really blame the voter, when he is deliberately being kept from "honest" information.

Yeah, sure there is a responsibility to be informed.
However, my father as a prime example, many people truly think they are informed. My dad just can not understand my hatred for TV news and 'mainstream' media. I hear him talking often with relatives and friends about

"kids today getting their information all off youtube and the internet. it's a scary phenomena to think there is a whole generation of young adults out there who aren't accepting the common reality" ...

    ... shit like that ...
    i mean, come on.

The "common reality" is what is scary,
and it is why you can't really fault the "common man".

He is tapped in to what he naively thinks is an honest system, and is punished with a dogmatic acceptance of whatever is pushed his way. Sure, you could fault him, but truth is he knows no better -- and worse -- he is made to know no better. If a baby is neglected and forcefed junkfood, can you blame the baby when it grows up fat and stupid?

That is the shape of voters in this country.
    :(

COOL LETTER ABOUT FUNDRAISING RP INITIATIVE
n a little more than five days, you raised over $852,000 online for the Ron Paul presidential campaign. Our original goal was $500,000, but you blazed past that amount in just a couple of days. Now, you're almost to the $1,000,000 mark. Congratulations and thank you!

Your extraordinary efforts have caused the press to take notice. The Hill newspaper, a publication here in Washington read by the professional political types, reported the other day on your success. The article was accurate and positive. And you can be sure it caused the political class here in D.C. to uncomfortably take notice.

This article about your success might be the first, but it certainly won't be the last. When we reach our new goal of $1,000,000 by midnight tomorrow, many more such articles will appear throughout the country - and the political "experts" will be scratching their heads trying to understand this Ron Paul Revolution.

Remember how much press we received last quarter when we had more cash in the bank than John McCain? We couldn't have paid for that much publicity.

The media might be able to erase post-debate online polls that showed Ron Paul won. They might be able to dismiss Ron Paul's support as "just the Internet" (whatever that means). But they can't dismiss the fact that thousands of people from Manchester to Pasadena are supporting Ron Paul's campaign for president with their hard-earned money - with $5 donations, $2,300 ones, and every amount in between.

We have about 34 hours left to reach our goal of $1,000,000 in seven days. When we reach it, we'll get $10 million worth of publicity.

As Dr. Paul wrote two days ago, "You and I are engaged in an historic enterprise."

We have until midnight tomorrow. Please donate today. Go to http://www.ronpaul2008.com/

    Sincerely,

Mainstream media outlets have taken notice...

    Not mainstream but interesting..

"The media, neoconservatives and some Democrats just don't understand why Ron Paul's supporters are so excited, dedicated and diverse. At the most recent PBS debate in Baltimore, the camera panned to catch the first African-American female fighter pilot in U.S. history applauding enthusiastically when Dr. Paul suggested we should bring the troops home from Iraq and every other country they currently occupy. Neoconservative bloggers are aghast at Ron Paul's increasing success as are the neoconservative gatekeepers. This is a truly satisfying result since it was the neoconservative hijacking of the Republican Party which has helped to further decimate our once-great Republic.

In one comment, written as a response to a post at the quintessential neoconservative and freedom-hating blog, Red State, a reader unsupportive of Paul points out the obvious for most neoconservatives, that Ron Paul's ability to raise a million dollars in seven days is "[expletive deleted] scary."

    i wish.
not so sure "usadaily" is "mainstream" ...
are you thinking of USAToday, or do you know something about this website?

Judging by the tone of the article:

With so many primaries moving their dates up, 22 states are now up for grabs on Super Tuesday. If Ron Paul wins New Hampshire his odds of winning the lions share of states on Super Tuesday’s February 5th elections become very good, as will his likelihood of winning the GOP nomination.

i'm guessing it is decidedly NOT mainstream.

    :(

    wish it were so.

Ron Paul is the only candidate in the 2008 elections worth voting for.
"When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul
  • My only worry is if he does make it, someone will attempt to assassinate him because he refuses to play the game.
  • This is great.
There must be a media coup going on.
ABC did a PIECE ON RON PAUL ... it may be as good as it gets.

Besides the "consistently in the back of the pack" ... the piece was upbeat and complimentary.

    I'm shocked and awed.

We are picking up steam my friend.

My biggest concern, as Paul stated, is that we may be running out of time. With primaries being moved up earlier and earlier we may not have the time needed to win the nomination. The more time he has to get his message out the more people will realize that he is the best candidate out there.

I think the GOP will be plenty shocked at the polls.

If Ron is anywhere near or above the 5% on these recent national polls, that is golden.

    Why?

Because average voter turnout for primaries is about 10%
Many states run around 7%, and a bunch more around 12-17%
Only a few, like california run at high numbers (like 42%)

If only 10% of the population shows up,
and ron paul supporters are, lets say 7% of the population (optimistic)
if 90% of RP supporters show up, that is HALF OF THE VOTE, EASY!

    ;)

I think you will see that at LEAST 80% of the RP supporters actually go out & vote, if not substantialy more.

    Its gonna be AWESOME.

  • From Wikipedia:
Paul has participated in six Republican presidential debates, five of which he won according to the sponsors' own online or text-message phone polls. After the first debate, ABC News noted Paul's robust online presence: "His supporters have mastered the art of 'viral marketing,' using Internet savvy and blog postings to create at least the perception of momentum for his long-shot presidential bid." U.S. News reported his increasing online popularity: "His supporters have flocked to the Internet with such enthusiasm that Paul is now showing up among the much richer candidates in various measures of Internet traffic". USA Today calls Paul an "online natural", citing as one reason, "Libertarians love the web."

Paul's Internet presence has been measured by his ranking as a top Internet search term by Technorati, Hitwise, and Alexa, which compare popularity in the blogosphere. While some claim a small number of supporters intentionally inflate Paul's rankings and skew the statistics, Technorati spokesman Aaron Krane affirms his company's position that Paul's search popularity is genuine to the best of their knowledge. Paul claims the most YouTube views of all presidential candidates, over 4.4 million, and the most subscriptions of all candidates, having surpassed Barack Obama on May 20, 2007. Paul's YouTube channel is among the Top 40 most subscribed of all time, achieving 32,000 subscribers in October 2007.
