I doubt that many people in the West know the first thing about Amahdinejad, or Iran for that matter. The fact is, who has Iran attacked in our lifetimes? No one.

Israel's leaders, on the other hand, have been stating clearly for over a hundred years that they want to establish a Jews only sovereign state in Palestine, and have often used some pretty colourful language to get their intentions understood. And not only have they been saying it, but they've been doing it.

I agree that we should leave Iran alone unless they outright attack someone which they won't do because they can't be that stupid.

However, I just can't comprehend the defense of Amahdinejad that appears on here whenever he says something controversial about Israel and then the same people turn around and blast leaders of Israel when they say something controversial. Just seems strange to me.

I've heard plenty of comments from both sides of this issue to be disgusted with both sides...perhaps you missed the main point of my post.

I just thought it was interesting to use quotes from 90 years ago and 25 years ago to compare to today specifically, I'm sure if you go back that far you will also still find some disgusting remarks made by BOTH sides...it would take you too much effort either.

Of course there are plenty of quotes from Palestinians over the years stating how they would love Israel to be destroyed e.t.c. That's perfectly understandable. The Palestinians have had their land stolen from them and have experienced over 100 years of terror directed against them.
On the other hand, in more recent times they've also stated clearly that they agree with a two state settlement along the 67 borders in accordance with the wishes of the International community, but this chance at peace has been blocked, and continues to be blocked, by Israel and the U.S. The vote in the U,.N security council has followed the same pattern for the past 40 or so years. Roughly 114 - 2. The 2 being Israel and the U.S.

Interesting speech by Norman Finklestein I watched today. He really manages to cut through the crap.

I agree there needs to be a 2 state settlement...and I believe the US is moving in the right direction on that 1, too slowly however. I would hope that the next Pres. would push Israel on this issue.

How is the U.S moving in the right direction on it?

The current admin. has said that a Palestinian state needs to be established...and they at elast say they are working towards that...

It's a slow moving bus, but it's moving, IMO anyhow.

ANYwhoo, these are called "soundbites" for a reason. they're not the whole statement/speech/story. i agree that the individual statements themselves are ugly, but let's not forget the context that they were made in- all of israel's neighbors wish them ill. some have called for their total annilhilation. they have centuries- millenia even- of history of oppression and hatred directed towards them. they're a scrappy bunch, fighting for survival against the odds. it's too easy- and intellectually lazy- to take their rhetoric and some of their leaders' hyperbolic statements and assume that that is the whole story. even you guys seem brighter that that.

Oh man, this just gets funnier and funnier with each passing week.

    :D:D

I stopped being amazed several weeks ago. Now, I just laugh at the dribble yammie posts.

Whoever this person/poster really is, no doubt "sweetpotato" is simply a parody....a satirical characterization. No one can be that dense.

Have you any idea what has been proposed by Israel and the U.S thus far re: a Palestinian state? I'll give you a clue; imagine each separate Indian reservation in the U.S being collectively labelled 'a state' and you'll have some idea.

Edit: It doesn't need to be 'a slow moving bus' at all. If Israel is interested in peace then it could have peace tomorrow. Unfortunately the Zionists are only interested in building more illegal settlements, and the U.S governement fully supports them in opposition to the rest of the world and international law.

I'm sure there are more important issues than 1 million people being imprisoned, starved and terrorised with the aid of U.S tax payers money. Maybe you can point them out to me?

    Israel plans more settler homes
    Tim Franks
    BBC News, Jerusalem

'The Israeli government has announced plans to build nearly 900 new housing units in a part of East Jerusalem that is considered occupied territory.

The contentious move comes amid the ongoing political battle swirling around Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is accused of corruption.

Mr Olmert's cabinet met for the first time since Defence Minister Ehud Barak said it was time for him to step down.

An Israeli official said Mr Olmert was getting on with government business.

The prime minister, he said, was keeping his cards close to his chest and did not discuss his future with his colleagues during the meeting.

Mr Olmert remained convinced he was innocent of the accusations that relate to his time as mayor of Jerusalem, the official said.

On Monday, the prime minister will have one of his regular meetings with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in an attempt to push forward peace talks.

Those talks will take place in the wake of the new housing announcement.

The Palestinian Authority has condemned the news of more settlement building on occupied territory.

The Israeli government insists that any final peace deal will see these districts redrawn inside the Israeli border.

In addition to Mr Barak's call for him to step aside, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said that the Kadima Party, to which both she and Mr Olmert belong, should hold new leadership elections.'

    Two dead in Gaza-Israel attacks

A young Palestinian girl has been killed by an Israeli shell in the southern Gaza Strip, medics said.

The Israel army confirmed it carried out an air strike in the area, saying it targeted a group of militants.

Security forces in the Hamas-run territory say the bomb missed its target and landed near a house.

The attack, which also injured two women, came after Palestinian militants shelled an Israeli kibbutz, killing a civilian and wounding four others.

The hospital in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis hospital identified the girl as Aya al-Manjar and said her mother was critically wounded.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said the attack targeted the area from which militants earlier fired rockets that slammed into the Nir Oz kibbutz in southern Israel, killing one person and wounding four.

Militants in Gaza regularly fire rockets at southern Israel, a response they say to Israeli military operations in Palestinian territory.

Israel has sealed off the territory and blocks all but essential humanitarian supplies, while launching regular raids in an attempt to counter militant fire.

An Israeli government spokesman said Hamas would be held accountable for rocket and mortar fire from the Gaza Strip, which Hamas seized control of a year ago.

Correspondents say the violence is a setback to Egyptian efforts to mediate a truce between Israel and Hamas.

Militant rocket fire killed two people in Israel during May. The latest death brings to 16 the toll from such attacks since 2000.

About 500 people, nearly all of them Palestinians and more than half of them militants, have been killed in violence since the troubled Israeli-Palestinian peace process was revived in November 2007.'
