not to be glib or anything. But are there similar qoutes from people that are still alive? Even made within the last ten years or so?
I'm not defending the qoutes made here, but most seem old.
If they are still saying these things, then by all means, feel animosity towards them.0 -
cincybearcat wrote:Some terrible talk on both sides...I like how the majority of the worst quotes are from 1983 and even back into 1920, 1919...and comparing them to talk today
What is said today means more now, but I agree, some terrible things said and thought (and believed) by both sides of this argument.
There are plenty of quotes there from Ariel Sharon which he spoke within the past ten years.
I'm sure I could find plenty more from the past few years if I looked. I doubt it'd be too difficult. Then again, how about looking yourself? It doesn't involve much effort.0 -

The whole point in my posting those quotes wasn't to make anyone feel animosity towards the Zionists as much as to point out the hypocrisy and double standards with regards to the amount of attention on the words of Irans leader.
As for finding some more recent quotes - despite some of them being very recent - why not look yourself? You have a computer, right?0 -
O.k, here's a few from the not so distant past - although I suspect that some people around here wouldn't be satisfied with anything that wasn't said yesterday.
Israeli minister warns of Holocaust for Gaza if violence continues
RORY McCARTHY
Guardian, 1 March 2008
http://www.fromoccupiedpalestine.org/node/1750
Israel's deputy defence minister yesterday warned his country was close to launching a huge military operation in Gaza and said Palestinians would bring on themselves a "bigger shoah," using the Hebrew word usually reserved for the Holocaust.
The choice of vocabulary from Matan Vilnai, an often outspoken former army general, was unusually grave - the word is not normally used for anything other than the Nazi Holocaust of the Jews.
Vilnai was speaking about his government's plans to tackle the continued firing of makeshift rockets, known as Qassams, from Gaza.
"The more Qassam fire intensifies and the rockets reach a longer range, they will bring upon themselves a bigger shoah because we will use all our might to defend ourselves," he said, in a telephone interview with army radio yesterday morning...'

Netanyahu says 9/11 terror attacks good for Israel
By Haaretz Service and Reuters
16/04/2008
The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been beneficial for Israel.
"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq" - Benjamin Netanyahu 16/04/2008

Shas MK blames gays for recent earthquakes in the region
By Shahar Ilan, Haaretz Correspondent, and The Associated Press
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/956334.html
Shas MK Shlomo Benizri blamed gays Wednesday for the earthquakes that have shaken the region in recent months, telling a Knesset plenum debate on local authorities' earthquake preparedness that government action on homosexuality would do much to prevent the tremors.
Benizri said the government should not make do with reinforcing buildings, but should instead pass less legislation that encourages homosexuality and other "perversions like adoptions by lesbian couples."
The ultra-Orthodox party MK invoked passages from the Talmud and the Gemarrah to support his claims.
"Why do earthquakes happen?" said Benizri. "One of the reasons is the things to which the Knesset gives legitimacy, to sodomy."
"A cost-effective way of averting earthquake damage," he added, "would be to stop passing legislation on how to encourage homosexual activity in the State of Israel, which anyways causes earthquakes."0 -
i think benjamin netanyahu is kinda sexy.
ANYwhoo, these are called "soundbites" for a reason. they're not the whole statement/speech/story. i agree that the individual statements themselves are ugly, but let's not forget the context that they were made in- all of israel's neighbors wish them ill. some have called for their total annilhilation. they have centuries- millenia even- of history of oppression and hatred directed towards them. they're a scrappy bunch, fighting for survival against the odds. it's too easy- and intellectually lazy- to take their rhetoric and some of their leaders' hyperbolic statements and assume that that is the whole story. even you guys seem brighter that that."Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."

Its seems like everything that Israel does is blamed on Israel's neighbors? Maybe if they would they take accountability for their actions things would be different.0 -

I'm amazed that you can produce the above post and use the words 'intellectually lazy'.
You believe that Israel is justified in pursuing genocide/ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people because Israel's neighbours 'wish them ill'?
What Israel's neighbours may or may not have said about Israel is completely irrelevant. Instead of focusing on what people say, how about focusing on what is actually taking place?
Israel's neighbours aren't wiping Israel off the map.
Israel is wiping the Palestinians off the map.
Do you see the difference?0 -

No, I think it is just as controversial but it just blows my mind that everytime Amahdinejad says something like this against Israel a few people on here defend him and say, "No, that isn't what he meant. You are taking it out of context."
It's like some of you think he can do nothing wrong.Seeing visions of falling up somehow.

I doubt that many people in the West know the first thing about Amahdinejad, or Iran for that matter. The fact is, who has Iran attacked in our lifetimes? No one.
Israel's leaders, on the other hand, have been stating clearly for over a hundred years that they want to establish a Jews only sovereign state in Palestine, and have often used some pretty colourful language to get their intentions understood. And not only have they been saying it, but they've been doing it.0 -

I've heard plenty of comments from both sides of this issue to be disgusted with both sides...perhaps you missed the main point of my post.
I just thought it was interesting to use quotes from 90 years ago and 25 years ago to compare to today specifically, I'm sure if you go back that far you will also still find some disgusting remarks made by BOTH sides...it would take you too much effort either.hippiemom = goodness0 -

I agree that we should leave Iran alone unless they outright attack someone which they won't do because they can't be that stupid.
However, I just can't comprehend the defense of Amahdinejad that appears on here whenever he says something controversial about Israel and then the same people turn around and blast leaders of Israel when they say something controversial. Just seems strange to me.Seeing visions of falling up somehow.

Of course there are plenty of quotes from Palestinians over the years stating how they would love Israel to be destroyed e.t.c. That's perfectly understandable. The Palestinians have had their land stolen from them and have experienced over 100 years of terror directed against them.
On the other hand, in more recent times they've also stated clearly that they agree with a two state settlement along the 67 borders in accordance with the wishes of the International community, but this chance at peace has been blocked, and continues to be blocked, by Israel and the U.S. The vote in the U,.N security council has followed the same pattern for the past 40 or so years. Roughly 114 - 2. The 2 being Israel and the U.S.0 -
Interesting speech by Norman Finklestein I watched today. He really manages to cut through the crap.

I agree there needs to be a 2 state settlement...and I believe the US is moving in the right direction on that 1, too slowly however. I would hope that the next Pres. would push Israel on this issue.hippiemom = goodness0 -

How is the U.S moving in the right direction on it?0 -

The current admin. has said that a Palestinian state needs to be established...and they at elast say they are working towards that...
It's a slow moving bus, but it's moving, IMO anyhow.hippiemom = goodness0 -

Whoever this person/poster really is, no doubt "sweetpotato" is simply a parody....a satirical characterization. No one can be that dense.0 -

Have you any idea what has been proposed by Israel and the U.S thus far re: a Palestinian state? I'll give you a clue; imagine each separate Indian reservation in the U.S being collectively labelled 'a state' and you'll have some idea.
Edit: It doesn't need to be 'a slow moving bus' at all. If Israel is interested in peace then it could have peace tomorrow. Unfortunately the Zionists are only interested in building more illegal settlements, and the U.S governement fully supports them in opposition to the rest of the world and international law.0
