Vedder Claims "Illegal" Drug Use: Is He "Scum"? Should We Jail Him?

Well?

I've heard that all drug users are scum, and a waste.
That they are a burden to society, and that they should be thrown in jail as an example.

A rock-mega-star such as Eddie would make a GREAT EXAMPLE.

I mean, that should keep, what, like 10 million kids off drugs?

And,
i've also heard that "no good" can come of recreational drug use ... and yet eddie mentions during Rock Werchter in Belgium that he was wasted because of a "pill" that Josh had given him earlier.

So Eddie was fucked up when he performed this: Slow Night, So Long ...

Seems that some people in pretty "high" places think that recreational drug use can serve certain artistic merits.

But i just want to know,
because Eddie has incriminated himself on numerous occasions admitting to drug use in the past. He insinuates it presently as well.

IS EDDIE SCUM?
SHOULD WE JAIL HIM TO SET AN EXAMPLE?

great footage :) ah, Eddie is not a scum and we shouldn't jail him.

pigs make drugs seem like a such a fucking taboo. It's just not socially acceptable to take drugs, but alcohol is ok....why? smoking weed is no different to drinking

I left before Pearl Jam even came on the stage.
    Partly on account of this.

    Hey, Amsterdam was calling!

They were dead during "their" bands too.
Kaiser Cheifs, and Bloc Party got no better responses on the whole.

Hopefully PJ faired better, audience participation wise.

In defense, they WERE there, and it had been raining ALL morning! Also, it was like day 3 or something! Maybe they were really tired?

    I dunno.
I don't think Belgium was "our town"!

  • admitting to having done them isn't enough to lock him up he'd have to be found in possession of them. and if he was found in possession, sure lock his ass up. he's no different than anyone else in that respect. is he scum? no he's an individual who chooses to do drugs, that's his business that i don't need to know about.

I've been to that festival in Werchter, Belgium and the crowd was the same sort of laid back till Spearhead lit them up.

As for Eddie send his ass to jail for corrupting our youthful minds with senseless drug use. No good can come from it.

There has to be better questions than this.

He's only practicing free speech when talking about his use...he's no Ted Nugent. corrupting minds? man...I hope you have more influence over your kids than Eddie Vedder....but if your kids are going to pick a rock star for a role model, there aren't many better IMO.
  • Alcohol is an imparative potentially dangerous drug. When it was made illegal, people rioted.. Are people who drink beer scum?

Yes, but the police don't investigate his claims of illegal drug use. Name one other crime where this is the case? There isn't. Because drug use should not ever be a crime.

    Agreed.

I'd have slightly more respect for anybody who used and kept their mouth shut. When he publicly announced it, he MADE it known, which was unnecessary.

    We look up,

but when we look at anyone we admire and expect them to be perfect,

    we are so fucked up.

who cares if Eddie does drugs; he never asked to be a role model, just a musician...

    he shouldn't be jailed .......

seriously. i know TONS of successful people around my age (I'm 31) who smoke either occasionally or frequently. most of the people i work with incl some mgmt smoke. the fact is they don't go after yuppies or rock stars. they go after the lower classes because they can put them in prison, make them into slaves and no one cares.

i don't think eddie is a scum... i don't think anybody who takes drugs are scum.

i do think however that drug-addicts like layne staley needed serious help. i consider them junkies.... and i think those people who actually waste their life away in drugs are the one's who lead others to believe that "nothing good comes from drugs." i guess, it just depends on experiences you had. like an abusive alcoholic dad.... i'm sure the kids think their dad is a "junk" too. not necessarily though.
This isn't the land of opportunity, it's the land of competition.

Drugs have ruined many lives and killed plenty of good people. Just like alcohol. Some people are more prone to addiction or just flat out use irresponsibly. I think it's best to just stay clean. There are plenty of other things to do, plenty of other things to feel. This world can be a pretty shitty place and a lot of us really do need drugs to get by. But once you get through that and can live life without drugs it's even a much better place. Kind of a circular reference there....hope I made sense.

Good point :( well over here... you'd have to be extremely unlucky to be done for possession.

Honestly, sometimes I think I'm the only person who DOESN'T smoke :D Well I'd smoke a couple of times a year at the MOST but that's about it. All my friends smoke, most of THEIR friends smoke... it's ridiculous, lol.

Yep you did. I genuinely don't think soft drugs lead to hard drugs. I think you're either gonna take them or you're not. Most of the people I know who smoke wouldn't DREAM of touching anything harder... and they never will. Actually most of them are pretty sensible and are in sensible jobs. Others mess around with some mainly 'harmless' drugs. But when I see the zombies walking the street, it just makes me so sad. Such a waste of a life... how can things get that bad that you think heroin's gonna help? Sad to say but maybe some of them would have been better killing themselves at that point :(
