    i agree. it is interesting to me that democrats are the party for african-americans, but are so anti-school voucher. from what i understand, the african-american community is strongly in support of vouchers. i support them too. the whole school vouchers hurting the poor argument is very elitist and condescending. that's like saying "hey, we know what poor people want, but let's face it, we know what's good for them better than they do. just don't vote republican, they're all racists." fact is, our education system is a massive failure.
    and like that... he's gone.

    Huh? Did you read GTFLYGIRL's comment, with which you said you agree? She said people have been tricked into believing that school vouchers are a good thing. It sounds like you're one of these people.

    You said school vouchers are good but you didn't explain that belief at all. What's so good about them? I understand how they sound good in theory, especially since there are so many problems with the public school system. But in practice they'll only help the middle class at the expense of the poor.

    Let's say there's a private school that charges $10,000 a year. You could get a voucher to go there, but the voucher will only be worth, say, $3000. So only those families with an extra $7000 per kid will be able to benefit. The problem is that, while the poorer people will still be left in the public school system, every voucher that is used will take $3000 away from that system. The result is that poor kids will be stuck in the same failing public school system, which will then have even fewer resources than they had before.
