Study: Psychodelic mushrooms may relieve symptoms of OCD

I'm hesitant about this type of thing. First of all, as a person predisposed to OCD, prior to having the disorder, I took mushrooms. My reaction was to become suicidal and distraught. I"m hyper-sensitive to many of the drugs I've taken.

On the other hand, considering people with OCD typically naturally override other brain functions* as a way of coping, and become imbalanced due to this, any kind of drug that would subdue the "parental-voice"/control-aspect of the person in question could help relieve symptoms. There's also the ability to learn to do this naturally, by changing one's brain chemistry by changing one's thoughts--ie: by learning how to become aware of or subdue those parent-voices from within.

edit: *the obsessive-compulsively disordered will typically use logic to override emotions and intuition becoming imbalanced by overusing the left-brain. Therefore solutions lie in increasing right brain activity in order to enhance balance. This includes focussing on and developing wider understanding of emotions and intuition.

Ahnimus, do you realize everyone has their own subjective view. Even people without drugs and dementia? And that each person sees the objective reality through this subjective view? And that all "reality" is seen through these varying filters? Do you realize there is what is seen as "consensual" reality, meaning the majority agrees on this? Do you realize that there are those who see beyond these parameters, normally, even when pathology is not present? Edit: Do you understand it is a continuum? There is not a point of view that is "normal" and then a line to be crossed? Do you get that many variables dictate the perception in an individual? Some are highly perceptive, others are not very.

Once I saw an actor on tv saying someone slipped some acid in his drink during a party. After tripping all night, he said the next morning he had fought his greatest fear and was no more afraid of dying.
Sartre (french philosopher) used to experiment lsd if my memory is correct.
I never tried lsd (shrooms were nice though, incredible experience when surrounded by nature, or listening to trippy music), but I read some things about it (Huxley and his friends :)).
The point of all this is :
I think one trip with strong lsd is like 10 years of therapy in one night (wich is why it doesn't suit everyone). You learn things about yourself and the world, ideas wich will you will still find good the next morning. But then there is the environment, depending on what you're surrounded your thoughts will be directed differently.

as far as hallucinations, am i the only one who stared at the carpet??

Not a carpet but the toilet lid cover. My friends thought I passed out in the bathroom so they came in to check on me and found me staring at it. It looked like it was moving. Sort of like what a packed stadium would like like it they where all doing the wave. I also stared at the blinking red light atop of a radio tower.

I totally got lost in the carpet............and I remember one time while I was tripping on shrooms staring at the textured ceiling for a good hour! When I shroom, everything that is textured looks very fluid-like and I definately got the wave effect you are talking about when I hopped in my friends car and he drove down the highway...............or floated down the highway :) I have never had "out of body experiences" or seen little green men running around, but textures, colors, etc. are much more vivid and shape-shifting.

I remember one experience vividly. We where tripping on shrooms one night, it was a few of us, and there was a blackout. We whereat a friends house and all of a sudden all the lights in the town went out. Those of us tripping decided to go out for a walk, I could never remain indoors when I was tripping. There was a full moon that night so there was a good amount of light. As I walked around it occurred to me that everything looked strange. The best way to describe it is that all the house looked Lego-like. They still retained the same color and texture but instead of being bui8lt out of brick or wood they appeared to be built out of Legos thatlooked like brick or wood. Even the trees looked as if they where contructed out of Legos.

My first tripping experiences were with lsa, very nice... I'll be doing it again after my exams. It's like everyone says, things make sense... I'm going to try mushrooms too and probably acid (depends if my friend is up to it). I can honestly say I have become a better person because of certain realization I had while I was tripping.

I've always been curious about shrooms, but never had the opportunity to take them. I grew up pretty sheltered and had no idea how to go about obtaining shrooms.

I must say they are the one drug I would be tempted to take just for the experience.

Research them deeply before trying them...............They are definately not a party drug, and very mood/environment dependent. Do not take them if you are angry, sad, depressed, etc.

The last time I shroomed (probably 15 years ago) I had the same experience. The road looked like the ocean and I was driving the boat.

I never got lost in the carpet, but the only time I dropped acid I was sitting in my dorm room with the lights off except for the light from an aquarium and I sat and stared at the air vent and listened to Jimi Hendrix. That vent was the best light show I ever saw.

If you are ever tripping, 3rd Stone from the Sun is amazing.

I would say go for it, if you can distinguish between reality and a trip. Seems to me that the general population can't.

Guy a knew in h.s. did morning glories once and ended up in the hospital. I didn't know him very well, but he apparently was pretty experienced with hallucinogens. He said something about talking to a tube of toothpaste, smashing the bathroom mirror, and not being able to remember a whole lot after that.

well i'm not sure how experienced a teen can really be, the mind of a teen is still changing so much. add drugs to it and it's not always the best thing.

...experience in the use of hallucinogens, meaning that he had done acid and shrooms a number of times and didn't end up in the hospital for lunacy.

I can't seem to open up that site right now. anyway, I had no idea that you can grow them yourself. I always just went to the cow field for the stuff.

oh dude, cows are pretty scary at like 3am.
  • On the History Channel's drug special it said that back in the 30's-50's psychologists used LSD, saying that "you could go through years of therapy in a few hours".

    Interesting stuff.

Considering that successful therapy usually involves heaving up long-suppressed bad feelings, those mustah been some bad trips.

What does that have to do with my post? I'm talking about dropping with a shrink and then talking about one's mother.
