It also puzzles me why people tend to live in these areas without any kind of insurance as well.

What's puzzling is your canuckism. This is an American board dedicated to an American band.
It's odd to me, you see these surveys on the board and people all over the world chime in about which band is their favorite, and on this board, you see canucks and south americans picking British and American acts as their top ten as if their own country cannot produce such a talent as to warrant self-approval. It's a mockery in itself. No wonder our governments are schizophrenic.

Music has no borders, indeed. I agree. It's a shame, though, that locals from afar ignore their bands in favor of the bands that make a lot of money and get the "world" spotlight as their "favorites."

Music has genre's like rock, country, classical, pop etc... It's not exactly country specific, as all countries produce musical abilities and talent. Great musicians are born worldwide.

Katrina wasn't a direct hit, and when it made landfall it had downgraded to a strong Cat 3 - though due to it's strength while still in the Gulf, it was pushing a storm surge that was larger than most Cat 3s generate. The levees would have been topped, no question. This would have caused a lot of flooding, millions of dollars of damage, and maybe even a few deaths. But we all know that's not what happened. Instead, the levees breached. There's a big difference.
Most of the breaches occurred at weak links in the levee system or where improper materials were used. Others occurred where the design itself was faulty. These mistakes were admitted by the Army Corps of Engineers in 2006. Think of it as a confession.

1 - thanks for posting this.
2 - the point was they choose to build that city there, the people knew it could happen

Humans tend to settle in areas prone to natural disasters. Sometimes it's because of the resources available in the area, sometimes it's for shipping/transit/transportation hubs (i.e. New Orleans), sometimes it's for simple asthetics, all the time it's near water. After all, people didn't originally settle this area because they thought "hey, I've got an awesome idea! Let's live in a mosquito infested, disease ridden, flood prone swamp!" It was settled for economic reasons.

very true...and i understand it...just making the point...thanks!
what's the difference with people bitching when they got flooded, when they live in a flood prone area?
When you are told levees are going to work, you'd expect them to work. And if the government says they are going to upgrade you'd expect that to happen BEFORE the old ones get tested.
Funny when you have a real government with half decent brains, that an entire country like Holland except for when the Germans rolled through, haven't had as big a problem as New Orleans. Says something for the care and concern that a government should have for the people.
Let me know when they can build a barrier that will stop fire from spreading. Then you can make a million in Cali.
I'm not a farmer either, and I also like to sleep til noon. And if a tornado takes my house, thats what insurance is for. (as long as it doesnt take my cds:))

Right-o.
I live in Southern California... I know there are earthquakes here. I prepare for the big one to hit. I have insurance, a contingency plan for temporary housing. The thing I don't do... build my house on the San Andreas fault line... one side on the Pacific plate, the other on the North American plate.
