Watching a very good programme about the German's "Final Solution" and just wanted to know a few prior informations.
About six million Jews were killed by the Germans.
What was the population of Germay Jews at the time? What is it now.
Likewise any information on the neighbouring countries.
My God were the Germans inhuman.

..we know, hey, fuck, WE KNOW!!!!
but we learned and I dare to say we learned for the better. Germany has become very peaceful so did the Germans.

It was shown clearly what this country is about during the soccer world championship, but still, we are aware of our crime, probably the biggest in human history...

..but please don't blame it on Germans again. WE JUST KNOW already! o.k.!
even the third generation after the ones who experienced it first hand.

    And to answer your question:
There are not many left.. those days only around 120000 jewish folks are living in Germany.
But the 6 Million we killed in the name of Hitler were from around Europe, not only Germany.

wow, breakmarysfall....just a bit defensive I see. No one was blaming you personally, and it's not like your country was responsible for it. It was an insane group of tyrannical people. I sure don't want to be held accountable for the murders and sins of my country.

    btw, I love your sig.

I have to say that I have many german friends here in the UK and there are recurrent jokes about the war on them, from the english people. I start to find it disturbing. They did a very good job in recognizing the guilt after the war, now it's time also for the allies to recognise some guilts (like bombing of civilian places in order to stop the factories, etc). However, the best, would be to move on: don't worry that the german people will remember of it. There a lot of bad things going on right now about which countries like the USA and UK that act sometimes like heroes for what they did during WW2, should think about...

:) thanks for bringing me down again.
and I did not mean to sound defensive or angry. I am just sometimes so tired of hearing about our crime...
I mean you learn it right from first class school how evil we were and maybe still are... what a big crime we did and so on.
Germans do indeed live with this sin and it never goes out of mind anymore, for nobody.
So this heat wave we have here let me sound aggressive, but maybe I am just tired of being the bad guy all the time ;)

and p.s. we really learned for the better and are by now a nice folk.
it is better and we go for diplomatic solutions and peace. WAR is not on our list anymore, and killing due to religios or any other believe is just not subject on the list either anymore....

but well ...what does it matter if few people around the globe refer to Germany still as Hitler country :(

    Not all Germans were Nazis.

Not all Germans agreed with or supported Hitler and the Nazis.

The Germans didn't do anything, the Nazis did.

nahhh that is not so easy to say
    ..and is just not true.
Beside of very few people like brother + sister Scholl
our population was supporting Hitler or was at least quiet.

the Jews were a subject of accusations for a bad life for very long... maybe it was jealousy, maybe it was the easiest way to just point the finger to a group of humans and blame them for all the bad luck one might have had in life.

So Hitler just picked it up and made it his politics cause he needed someone to blame and hate first hand.
He also promised the Germans a lot and at the beginning of his time as a president here, the living conditions of Germans got indeed better.

But we as a nation totally missed to speak out about his crimes.
If I ask my granny why she did not do anything against it, she says : but we did not know how bad it was... how many people got killed.
o.k., it might be true cause she lived in the country side, but fact is that we all looked away, were silent and swallowed the fact that Hitler was killing millions of poeple.

So we ask ourself over and over: how could a whole nation let it happen, why was a whole nation quiet,
we completely failed and we are to blame... it was us who let Hitler do what he did for more then six years!!!!

So WE DID A LOT to support this crime by not doing anything against it!

I don't see germans as bad people because of WW2. That's completely illogical. However, my grandfather was german and was one of the most evil people I've ever known.....maybe there is somthing to this......

No, not all Germans are evil, however, I can understand the apprehension Jews might have around Germans. I am Chinese and my parents were born and raised in apartheid South Africa. I know the history there and what my family had to go through, so I immediately have apprehension around white south africans even though even Apartheid is nowhere near on the scale as the Holocaust. That said I married a caucasion girl also of South African descent.

Except maybe that Armen Miews guy, lol.

I actually met a woman that was so ignorant, she said she doesn't like german people because of WW2. I set her straight though.

I also got in trouble on a german forum for saying "deutschland über alles" I was just quoting my favourite Massive Töne song.

"na du, kleines nazi schwein willst radikal sein?"

    Germany has the best music!

that was very funny, thanks alot for the big laughter I just had.

Also thanks to Shiraz and others... I really feel o.k. now being a German,
but still, some forgiving words do us good.
    ;)

but the German line is funny... and massive Töne is a good one.
I agree, we do have good music, but NOT IN ROCK, so... more instrumental and experimental...

..and about Nazis still being around in Germany. That is true, those radical, one sided people are still around here, but there are also to be found around the globe...
pointing a finger, accusing innocent and believing old stupid melodies is still existing.. but I am glad that you are named and treated like a criminal if you salute to Hitler or call out Nazi propaganda ... that is what I like about Germany those days.. we do not forget and try all to prevent another happening like this.

and btw, please accept my appology for the heated up first response...

Nazis, for the most part, were not being inhuman; they were following orders. Most of the people in world, including us, are easily capable of committing unspeakable acts if we are ordered to do so. This has been proven.

Hey, Die Toten Hosen is a good rock band. I actually like Die Aertzte(sp?) aswell, lol. You would laugh if you knew what I listen to. Die Prinzen, Zweiraumwhonung, Rosenstolz, Herbert Grönemeyer, Rammstein, Massive Töne, DJ Tommek, Deich Kind, Das Ich. There are more, I know it, I just can't think of them all right now. Die Prinzen is pretty fruity music, but there are others that are worse. Oh yea, Kraftwerk of course.

... now you got me and I use the quiet hour to chat about german music.
    Kraftwerk of course!

and I am in with the HOSEN.. uhh was I a huge fan, all Punk and Ramones and Hosen... back in the 80ies.
My first concert, age 14, was Hosen, second Ramones,
tellya, that had some impact on me ;)

and I am in with Zweiraumwohnung und Grönemeyer (zeit dass sich was dreht is a cool song again!).
And of course: Nina Hagen, Poems for Leila, Einstürzende Neubauten!!!!,
a bit of Xavier Naidoo here and then
and: .... blank (I do think of Pearl Jam now... since the 90ies I am all theirs
    :) )

    gotta go, work is calling.
nice that someone knows all those bands... funny thing.
    wishing you a nice day
a peaceful one so to say

Cool, I don't know those bands, except Nina.

It's hard to get that music in Canada. I tried to get Massive Toene imported through HMV but they wouldn't do it. I had to download it all and even then it's hard to get. I studied German Language, History and Culture for a year or so.

Ich bin gut nicht mit der sprache. Ich lerne grösse auf die internet. ;)

For my leaving cert history I did a piece on Rudolf Hess for my special topic. It was about how he wanted to meet Churchill on how he wnated to end the war. He was believed as madman and inprisioned. They was a far more sinister German with a very similar name that should not be mistaken.
  • fada wrote:

    hard to say....
we see the existing of Nazi thoughts and thinking as a permanent danger,
we keep an permanent eye on the development, so to say.
as I said, here we name them criminals and most Germans are just ashamed that they still exist.

but Poland and other European countries will deal with their folks the way they think. All European countries for themselves are pretty independent, still.
as I said: old Nazi followers are found around the globe.
but I think or have the feeling, that they are treated like and even are outsiders of our society and are hardly heard by the mass anymore.
they do exist but seem not of a extreme big danger to our society right now, no where in Europe.

..I truly hope they soon will completely vanish...
for the rest I am bit tired of talking about Germany and its past.
so you do excuse me?... thanks.
