the handgun STOPS the road rage. an armed society is a polite society. everyone in my town is armed thus there's no crime. where you have crime is where the criminals are armed and know their victims are not. criminals prefer unarmed victims and that's why organized crime donates so much to organizations that are anti gun. look at towns like morton grove IL or glenco IL. when they banned guns their crime rate soared. prior to the gun control act of 1968; you could carry your handgun on commercial airlines. when that stopped; we had hijackings.
check it out for yourself.
what about that priest who killed someone with a crossbow becos he was wrapped up in road rage? you really think if everyone was packing heat, a bunch of idiot hotheads wouldn't end up shooting each other up? normally, i'd be for that (see my darwinism point above), but i've no desire to be gunned down by a redneck like you becos you feel entitled to shoot anyone who makes a driving move you don't like.
what about that priest who killed someone with a crossbow becos he was wrapped up in road rage?
i really don't know. what is it that turns normal, everyday decent people into total freaks on the roads, because someone does what we all do at some point or time. makes a mistake.
First off Kudos to you for posting and soliciting feedback on this. I think that was kind of brave of you and very positive.
Amplification is a powerful thing. That's probably why we're all on this message board. It's one thing for Stone to have a twitchy sense of rhythm or for Jeff to bounce his head in a groove... but connect them to a stack of ampifiers ... and they can move an entire arena.
And it's one thing for Ed to work pumping gas and to have a notebook full of poems, and it's another thing for him to have a microphone attached to a PA system in Madison Square Garden.
With a little amplification it's possible to change the world, and change lives.
Music is great because all that amplification is sort of metaphysical. Apart from a bit of vibrating air, all that's being moved are minds and eardrums.
Cars on the other hand are much more physical, and there is no amplifier quite as powerful as the accelerator.
A bad song and a bad mood in a car can cause way more trouble than a disapointing setlist.
Look I wasn't there, so I really don't know how bad the situation was... but I don't think you'd be posting here if it wasn't really bad.
The reaon I'm replying even though I wasn't there is because I've hd friends with road rage and it's no joke. I knew one girl who was constantly banging up her car, and who once actually clipped a pedestrian. She had / has no idea what a bad driver she was / is. (Not sure, since I'm never getting in a car with her again.)
So that's my background, and maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but I'm guessing this isn't the first time you've done something like this, and I'm guessing your posting here not because of this one event, but because you feel as though "it's finally time" to "See" what other people think or do.
Anyway, as I wrote before, I think that's a really good and positive step. Sometimes it's amazing for feelings and emotions, even dark ones to get amplified. That's a large part of what makes Pearl Jam so amazing.
But a car can amplify those feelings too if you aren't incredibly careful... and the results can be ... that you won't get to hear Pearl Jam's next album... or that you'll have to live with taking that chance away from someone else.
Sorry if that's heavy handed, but I guess the part of your post that disturbed me the most was when you wrote about making eye contact with the driver to let him know you didn't mean any harm... when the whole point of what you've written is you know full well you did.
To go through that many shifts in emotion, motivation, manipulation and intent all while you've got the meerest twitch of your foot controlling at least a ton of car and at least a hundred horses of engine power sounds very *VERY* dangerous, to you, to me, to everyone on the road.
I think it's awesome you were brave enough to post here. I think you should follow that best impulse and see where it leads you.

dude; about 80,000 people legally carry concealed weapons in arizona. in my town; everyone carries because it's a tourist town and you never know what kind of trash will roll into town. my town doesn't have any crime.
if you see a shiney .44 mag on my dash; you probably won't be stupid enough to f%*k with me. but be assured; if i shoot you; it will be because i believed you were about to cause me or someone else bodily harm. i'm highly educated and one field is law. i know when the supreme court allows me to use deadly force and when i cannot.

How pathetic!! Honestly, this sounds like the ranting of a nerd, who always got fucked with and now is all "grown up" and has a "shiney" toy. You know what, sometimes their just swollen and not really that "big" you might want to seek medical attention as the ego can play tricks on the mind.
Every town has crime, maybe its just not committed with handguns. Judging from your rant, I don't see how a -mine is bigger than yours; well mine is better than yours- hasn't resulted in at least a couple of town shootings.
Guns are not the answer to road rage in any State.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

i never got fucked with. i've had 1 fight in 6th grade and haven't had a fight since. i'm 51 and got my first gun at age 12. just like every other kid. the only crime reported last year was a dog barking at night. you need to open your shirt and look out at the real world. we have the strictest DUI laws; the strictest immigration laws; and we concentrate on what's really necessary. not disarming law abiding citizens. that's the stupidest thing i ever heard. let's punish the innocent so they can become victims of crimes.
those who migrate here either know or get told that 80,000 people legally carry conceald weapons. it's up to the criminals to guess which ones don't. criminals prefer unarmed victims. when you ask for my wallet; will i pull out a gun instead? try me. make my bloody day.
I think you should probably erase that post, or you could get the feds coming after you for a road rage incident...
hehe, kidding... was that in Nebraska? Every time I drive home from CO to WI, I have to drive through Nebraska, where the drivers are FUCKING INSANE! They go under the speed limit in the left lane(passing lane) and then if you go around them in the right lane, since there aren't any cars for miles, they flick you off, follow you, etc... I got followed by a guy for passing him in the right lane because he was going at least 10mph under the speed limit, he then followed me for miles, swerving, honking, flashing his lights, weaving around any cars we came to to stay right on my ass. I finally pulled over because I saw he had a little girl in the back seat, he kept moving...
I felt sick and reported his car to the police, how could someone do that with a child in the car?
SCUM!

if you don't have a conceald permit; it's perfectly legal to carry openly. in fact; most of the women i know that carry; carry openly so they're not messed with to begin with. it's nothing to walk around walmart and see sidearms on people. there's different laws in different states. 23 states now allow conceald weapons with permits. they're the states with the lowest crime rates.

that's messed up. when someone does that to me; i try to drive to the nearest police station. if you were in arizona and had a gun on your dash; the guy probably wouldn't have followed you in the first place. wisco had a vote for conceald weapon permits and it lost by a small margin. an anti handgun friend of mine (near kenosha) voted FOR it because of that reason. he had a place up nort (hehe; i'm from the area) and had similar instances.
ever seen a police shoot out? it's usually 20 rounds fired and no one hit. it's almost impossible to hit a moving target unless you've trained for it. 40 years of hunting qualifies me for it.

If the only deterrent to crime is the fact that people ride around displaying a gun, how safe is your town. Seems to me you'd always be on edge waiting, looking for a reason and that is pathetic. A town of 80,000 people, everyone would not know each other, so how do you know tourist trash from local trash, you don't, so you'd basically have to treat everyone you didn't know as a criminal.

ah, so you're just banking on making sure you're the one who shoots first?

first of all; it's 80,000 in the entire state have permits. my community has about 3500 to 4000 people.
i was a tourist here for many years before becomming a resident. i freaked out when i saw people carrying guns. in the end; that's why i moved here. the legislators here uphold the supreme court and aren't hell bent on disarming me and making me a victim again.
we rely on tourists money to survive and being the home to rt 66; we have plenty of them. when those tourists happen to be criminals; they see an armed society and wait until they cross the california state line before comitting any crimes. nobody is on edge because we all protect eachother. we all know eachother. we know how to handle a gun; and most importantly we all know how destructive a gun can be. therefore we respect the gun as a tool. we've all grown up with guns and the normal birthday present for a 12 year old is a .22 rifle. when that kid kills his first coyote, squirrel, rabbit; or praire dog; they see death and know they caused it. it's hard to kill and you never forget it. that doesn't make people want to kill more; it gives them respect for life. if it didn't; millions of hunters would be clearing the cities.

the bloody wild turkeys around here follow me around like puppies. i keep telling them thanksgiving is coming but it doesn't do any good. the last time i was held at gunpoint was in 2000 and i wasn't armed because i was watching the sunset a few yards from my front door. i was able to get the gun and have the bloke arrested. he died of cancer 2 years later so karma took care of it.
i respect that things here are completely different than where you live. it's a vast world and things are different everywhere. i love where i live. most people here will hunt deer and elk and fill their freezers for the year. you can't do that in LA or NYC.
THUS; my first response to the question was directed at someone i thought lived near a city.
HOWEVER; my second response was to show that i live in a different area and show how things are different here.

I'm not sure how any of that makes any sense. You were unarmed... but, you somehow wrestled the gun away from the guy... what makes you think the same thing can't happen to you... if you are the one holding the gun? In otherwords... having a gun in that particular situation had nothing to do with it... you were unarmed.
Anyway... the only time I've ever had a loaded gun pointed at me was when a friend's fucking angry boyfriend burst in on us sitting in her living room, watching T.V. He thought we were bangin' it, but we were just friends and co-workers.
Anyway... I got away by blabbering crazy shit and side-stepping and made my way to the door... and made it down fronmm the second floor without touching one stair. I called the cops and they took his sorry ass in. No one pressed charges and all he got was fined for the gun violation.
If a second gun would have been in the mix... someone would have been shot.

i respect that; but he made a mistake. he got too close. the barrel was within an inch of my head. easy to grab it and kick him in the family jewels. in the training class; we're taught to shoot when the attacker is 7 yards away. you don't let them get close enough to take your gun.
the difference is training.
got to feed the animals. i'll catch you another day. take care.

where did this guy come from? havent you said your house is practically hidden miles form anywhere? he just snuck up within a few feet of you and put a gun to your head?

I missed this comment earlier and take issue with it.
I recently attend a funeral service for a wonderful, kind hearted woman who had succumbed to breast cancer. Please, do not tell me it was karma and she had it coming. I also know several cancer victims and survivors... whom I'm sure are not all angels, but do not deserve to be stricken with the disease.
And you, of all people... aren't you standing at death's threshold and are going to die any day now? That cannot be karma, too... can it? No.
...
I'm guessing that you did not know what you were saying when you typed this... but, regardless... i would think that someone with your health issues would be that last one wishing death by disease upon anyone... even someone who has wronged you.

How do you guys handle road rage? or if you have ever been in one or whether you were the aggressee or aggressor, how would you handle the situation?
Sofia
Interesting thread.
All I was posting to say is that you learn, and you should be fine, Sofia.
I've done many many miles on the road and I find that being laid back and people will always be cutting you off, pulling in front, driving too fast or slow. I've been in every state and many countries and everybody in such state or country says the people in the state or country next door are terrible drivers.
I don't get pissed at other people on the road. It's good for the blood pressure, because there are a lot of people on the road and there will be more, so getting mad isn't going to help anything.
Actually, I do this: When someone gets mad at me or gives me the finger on the road, I just wave and yell "Hi", and wave.
You have to perfect it to looking like you've known that person for years. Then when they drive away, they'll be wondering if they just flipped off someone they know!

A town of 80,000 people, everyone would not know each other, so how do you know tourist trash from local trash, you don't, so you'd basically have to treat everyone you didn't know as a criminal.
ah, so you're just banking on making sure you're the one who shoots first?
i never draw first but i draw first blood.
i'm sorry. i misspoke. you're not john WANYE. my apologies john rambo. i will bow out of here now... your manliness has cowed me.
one question though... do you do that swagger becos of how hard it is to walk when your balls of steel hang all the way to your ankles?
first of all; it's 80,000 in the entire state have permits. my community has about 3500 to 4000 people.
i was a tourist here for many years before becomming a resident. i freaked out when i saw people carrying guns. in the end; that's why i moved here. the legislators here uphold the supreme court and aren't hell bent on disarming me and making me a victim again.
we rely on tourists money to survive and being the home to rt 66; we have plenty of them. when those tourists happen to be criminals; they see an armed society and wait until they cross the california state line before comitting any crimes. nobody is on edge because we all protect eachother. we all know eachother. we know how to handle a gun; and most importantly we all know how destructive a gun can be. therefore we respect the gun as a tool. we've all grown up with guns and the normal birthday present for a 12 year old is a .22 rifle. when that kid kills his first coyote, squirrel, rabbit; or praire dog; they see death and know they caused it. it's hard to kill and you never forget it. that doesn't make people want to kill more; it gives them respect for life. if it didn't; millions of hunters would be clearing the cities.
When was the last time a turkey opened fire on you?
Hail, Hail!!!
the bloody wild turkeys around here follow me around like puppies. i keep telling them thanksgiving is coming but it doesn't do any good. the last time i was held at gunpoint was in 2000 and i wasn't armed because i was watching the sunset a few yards from my front door. i was able to get the gun and have the bloke arrested. he died of cancer 2 years later so karma took care of it.
i respect that things here are completely different than where you live. it's a vast world and things are different everywhere. i love where i live. most people here will hunt deer and elk and fill their freezers for the year. you can't do that in LA or NYC.
THUS; my first response to the question was directed at someone i thought lived near a city.
HOWEVER; my second response was to show that i live in a different area and show how things are different here.
plenty of alcohol here yet no shootings. imagine that. maybe we're just more civilized here. we can handle the responsability.
Hail, Hail!!!
Yup... guns and alcohol... they go together like peanut butter and gasoline.
Hail, Hail!!!
i respect that; but he made a mistake. he got too close. the barrel was within an inch of my head. easy to grab it and kick him in the family jewels. in the training class; we're taught to shoot when the attacker is 7 yards away. you don't let them get close enough to take your gun.
the difference is training.
got to feed the animals. i'll catch you another day. take care.
You're Batman!
Hail, Hail!!!
where did this guy come from? havent you said your house is practically hidden miles form anywhere? he just snuck up within a few feet of you and put a gun to your head?
Hail, Hail!!!
if he has said health issues. i'd be generous if i said i believed half of what batman has to say.
