oh and Tara, my bestfriend is an environmental engineer. Say's it's bunk. Nothing more than nature at work.
Well I hope the small majority of people in the world...and the even tremendously smaller number among the educated in this field (including your friend) keep on believing that. You guys are losing members every day!
Good one. I actually already proved it to myself. But it's good to see he's got the smallest house on the block, lol.
I don't know, I mean, let's ignore the fact that we have no idea what his carbon emissions are and only know how much he pays for energy. If you had that kind of money, where would you live? I'd be living in a newspaper down by the docks, because I'm crazy like that.
I don't think Gore every said luxury was damaging the environment. But hey I don't know. I still don't see any solid evidence that he is a huge polluter and a big hypocrite.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

Huh? We know pretty much exactly what his carbon emissions are. Take 221,000 kwh (Gore's annual usage), multiply it by 60% (percentage of TVA's electricity that comes from fossil fuels) and then covert that to CO2 emissions, and you get 57,018 kilograms of CO2.
You could also do that with his natural gas usage.

You gotta believe, I'm not just taking your word for it. If you truly want to convince me you have the truth, show me some hard evidence.

Sometimes in order to to get the job done you need to get your hands dirty.
I suppose he could be doing nothing at all to make people aware internationally.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of equipment and manpower would be necessary to carry out a campaign to the entire planet on a daily basis?
I think $2,439 is little to nothing in this regard. Try running a home office for just a single country in one time zone and let me know....

Yeah, I really don't give a rat's ass how much electricity, jet fuel, gasoline, paper he uses...
The guy has opened the eyes of millions of people to the problem. Without that plane, without that ground transport, without that electicity, he would not be able to do what he did...which I think was a great thing.
Meh....I don't really care. You'll find it just like I did.
I need documents linking Gore's house to TVA and documents supporting the kind of energy the TVA distributes. I need a solid link.

Nintendo Entertainment System???
Anyway, of course it's publicly available. Look up the sales record for the address. Determine if Al Gore is the primary owner. Look for active power lines coming from the TVA grid to his house. Get a telescope and read his meter. Do it again 30 days later. Multiply by 30.41. Viola.

Green power cost more because the technology used to capture these renewable resources is more expensive than traditional power generation methods.
They actually use methane to produce the electricity, so they are actually preventing emissions by burning the methane. It's the same deal they use at landfills these days.

You're looking for "hard documents". I don't have any. You'll have to find those for yourself if you need that information. So if you don't believe me until then, I'm very much ok with that. As I said earlier, I really don't care.
Just a suggestion, but Al Gore's response to this didn't challenge any of the basic fact findings, just the implications.

Dude, look, it does not matter how much he spends on it, his carbon emissions are low, a lot lower than your calculations.
This is a smear campaign, or else they would have some real important facts to talk about, green energy costs more, but it is energy efficient.
I think you just don't like Gore.

Of course it's a smear campaign! But that doesn't make their facts incorrect. The Clinton impeachment was a smear campaign, but he did get oral sex from that woman and he did lie about it. Most anti-Bush posts here are smear campaigns, but that doesn't mean a lot of their facts are incorrect either.
And no, I don't like Al Gore. I don't like Al Gore because he's yet another blowhard politician trying to scare people into serving him.

Uh, so how much carbon is emitted from green energy? did you factor that in, or just go with conventional energy. I'd like to see proper formula.

Uh, so how much carbon is emitted from green energy? did you factor that in, or just go with conventional energy. I'd like to see proper formula.
The proper formula is:
TOTAL ELECTRICITY USAGE (kwh) * .6 * .43 = kilograms of CO2 emissions.
The .6 represents 60% -- the percentage of Tennesse's electricity that comes from fossil fuels. The other 40% comes from nuclear & hydroelectric & wind/solar.
The .43 is the coversion factor of kwh of fossil fuels -> co2 emissions.

That's bullshit, can you guess why?
Green Power is produced from burning Methane, Solar Panels and Wind. That throws a wrench in your calculations because they don't produce as much CO2.
Methane is important for electrical generation by burning it as a fuel in a gas turbine or steam boiler. Compared to other hydrocarbon fuels, burning methane produces less carbon dioxide for each unit of heat released. Also, methane's heat of combustion is about 802 kJ/mol, which is lower than any other hydrocarbon, but if a ratio is made with the atomic weight (16.0 g/mol) divided by the heat of combustion (802 kJ/mol) it is found that methane, being the simplest hydrocarbon, actually produces the most heat per unit mass than other complex hydrocarbons. In many cities, methane is piped into homes for domestic heating and cooking purposes. In this context it is usually known as natural gas. One standard cubic foot of methane will produce roughly 1,000 BTU (1.06 MJ = 293 W·hr) of energy.

Responding to Drudge’s attack, Vice President Gore’s office told ThinkProgress:
1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.
2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:
What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.

Dude, my calculations include zero emissions from renewables, nuclear, and hydroelectric. The fact remains that these technologies do produce some emissions, but I'm not even counting those. I'm only counting emissions from fossil fuel production. That's the 60%. In my formula, 40% of Gore's power is considered emissions-free.
Seriously, if you don't want to believe me, don't.
