I don't know Ann Coulter. I don't think she actually thinks John Edwards is gay. I will agree she is plain nuts. I also would assert that the Democrat running for US Senate in Minnesota is plain nuts. Coulter's remark was meant to be comedic. If you listen to her saying things about each Democrat running for President, it would fit right into an ill advised rant. You cannot excuse one's behavior while picking out the same sort of behavior from another and saying it is wrong. As one on the right, I will not bring up the obvious sexism this is showing since all on this thread are excusing the behavior of a white male while deriding that of a female though. That would just not be my style.
It has nothing to do with sexism...another reach, kinda like the race card you're so fond of.
I don't have to know her to tell she's being serious when calling 9/11 widows money grubbing broads. What you posted just isn't even close to the things Coulter spews routinely. The fact that that's all you could come up with just proves my point. It just wasn't the same, sorry. Better searching next time. What am I excusing Franken from anyways? The fact that he tried but to be funny and failed miserably?
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I believe that Coulter's crap is the same as that skit. They were both ridiculously bad attempts at humor. One was by an annoying television personality. The other was by a major party candidate for US Senate.
She is serious...that's the difference

She's serious about Edwards being gay? How could you possibly not think this was a lame attempt at humor in a roast style of speech?
come on now, z, that's not the point...the point is she pretty much called edwards a faggot in front of a large Conservative crowd, many of whom cheered and applauded...
let's take mann out of this, let's say if anybody said what she said, it would be addressed and should be condemned...

I'm talking about her body of work in general. Also, with Edwards she singled him out personally in an attempt to insult him....not the same as your clip which was obviously tongue in cheek and wasn't personally insulting a single person while using bigotry to boot.

Franken once challenged a columnist to a fight. He has shown a history of violence now and should be condemned as well. How is one insult always tongue in cheek and another so wrong? I think they are both horrible and inexcusable wastes of existence.
so, since franken is running for Senate, it's suddenly ok that coulter for call edwards a faggot...
interesting...
It's not okay at all. I am just using the same argument that many on this board use constantly. He, as an aspiring public official, is much more dangerous than some blowhard editorialist.
People like Franken and Coulter are so caught up in their own bullshit that "serious" is not really a good word. The only thing people like that are "serious" about is discrediting their opposition, rather than standing on their own principles.

in that case, franken is a jackass and shouldn't be elected...

Challenging some to a fight is completely childish but did he actaully attack the guy? Look, Franken is a tool, you don't have to convince me. But I disagree that he is on the same level as Coulter. I view her to believe the bullshit she says and seemingly never regret any of it.

If she seemed to regret it, this thread wouldn't be six pages and her buzz would drop. I'm just giving the other side of this debate. I do see Franken as mean though and believe that he would see no problem with physical violence against a political opponent.
Coulter is not simply a joke. Many people will listen to her and laugh, but there are those who idolize her. She is a seriously confused individual, and I maintain that she would bennefit from therapy.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

Him challenging someone to a duel, while completely ridiculous, is much more admirable than defaming people and spreading outright lies. Franken might get his goofy ass handed to him and we'd all get a laugh.

I have seen the same kind of worship for Franken on this board.

That is unfortunate.
But, are you suggesting that wrongfulness is dismissed by complimentary wrongfulness?

Not in the slightest. I'm saying that the political slant of the majority of this board is made up of blind hatred for the opponent.
Social Polarization
We'd all be better if we could ignore it and resist it's effect on ourselves, lest we become polarized. Sadly, such a thing may be too improbable to ever become a reality.

I can agree with that. But the point still stands that Coulter's words and tactics are in a class by themselves.

I didn't hadn't read the first link before. Also, I didn't see too much worship but there was support.
And the second link seemed to be saying the same things we've been saying in this thread.
Also, I view support for Coulters rantings to be more much serious because the stuff Franken pulls is quite mild in comparison.

Not in the slightest. I'm saying that the political slant of the majority of this board is made up of blind hatred for the opponent.
I was referring to the opening post in the second thread. Both were more just cited for singular posts.
They both set very bad examples. Childishly threatening physical violence in public is just as bad as using a bad word.
If only it were as simple as Ann saying a bad word then you'd have a point.
