I will tell you right now the draft is probably the best thing that could happen at this point. The American people will be far more vocal against any type of unnecessary military adventure that our government may lead us into. It's a lot easier to sit by quietly when you know your kids will not have to go off and die.

this talk of the draft is asinine. can someone tell me what war we are fighting in that would require the draft?

Our current involvements are getting close. You already have stop-loss in effect, and tours extended/added, and the time in-between tours shortened, and our historically part-time domestic national guard on full-time foreign duty.
It's not out of the question to think that if we do get involved in Iran in any sort of on-the-ground capacity, our military would be stretched out beyond it's limits to accomplish what our horrible political minds think they should.

really? Rice is in Iraq today and apparently a time table agreement has been reached for troops to come home.
the same war thats been going since 01? all of a sudden we need a draft?
As blackredyellow stated our military is stretched to it's limit. We currently have to theaters of operation and who knows what is going to happen with Iran and/or Russia. Now I'm not saying we NEED the draft. I simply stated that I believe the draft would be a good thing.

the war in Iraq appears to be winding down. War with Iran will not happen...same with Russia. the draft is completely pointless and would not be a good thing. would just be a waste of money

I agree that there will be no reason for a draft. I'm not as optimistic as you about Iraq, will not believe anything this administration says until I actually see it happen. I do disagree with you about the draft. While I don't see it as creating a military as good as one that consists of volunteers, I do believe that it a means to prevent our politicians from waging unnecessary wars.
