don't say "typical art teacher" she is not the typical art teacher.

sorry i misread this : " said Kate Brooks, director of career services for liberal arts students at the University of Texas at Austin."

I can understand being upset for a highschool teacher doing that.

i still don't really see anything really wrong with it, but they're minors and i doubt she even got parental consent for it.

I wouldn't have a problem with it per se (although it DEFINETLY depends on the situation), but that desicion isn't for her to make, it's for the parents to make.

as i said, the issue isn't even how i feel about it at all...is it art...is it acceptable...etc. really makes not one bit of difference. as far as i am concerned, and what anyone should truly be looking at is: did it violate her contract or not? that's it, that's the issue. if she signed it, she agreed to it, end of story.

i have no idea what that is even supposed to mean. what exactly is a 'typical' art teacher. nudity can and is a part of many great works of art. doesn't matter your opinion on it. besides the fact, these are not self-portraits...so it's not ever HER art, butr someone else's, she merely modeled....not that makes any difference. i thought the offending images weren't even visable anymore? some of them were definitely very interesting, excellent use of light and coloring, composed beautifully, etc. not even the point though....it's not a debate over 'is it art'...which seems silly in any case...but moreso, did she violate her teaching contract by posing, and allowing public, such images. everyone seems to be focusing elsewhere.

i taught art for 10 years, knew/met many other art teachers...don't think there is any particular, 'typical' demographic for an art teacher, except a love and passion for art.

they're in there! or they were.
you just have to look thru em all. sheesh.

edit - just saw moe's post. you're too late, they're gone.

well, even if they are not 'her art'...as a teacher, even just posing and allowing pics as such to be published can be a violation of your contract. as i said, i don't know what her particular contract states...but bottomline, whether one thinks it prudish or not, if she signed her contract, that's an agreement to said terms. if you don't like the terms, don't sign the contract. you can't say you will follow a set of obligations, renig, and then expect no repercussions...no matter what actions she did to violate her contract.

You've been teasing me all day..now tell. How did she look? LMAO...J/K

That's what I tell my wife when she tells me to hurry up and come out of the bathroom. You can't rush a work of art.

I really don't understand why nudity is such a big deal to people in the US.

Ok, that being said, who cares. Obviously she's a good art teacher, maybe she can get a gig in a university, or in Las Vegas teaching art. Or New York or France.

If they are that bent out of shape for what she does at home. Tell them to pound sand. What were they doing looking for nude pictures anyhow hmmmm. Maybe the school board should be fired too by those standards?

it's only an issue with some people, not all.

nobody said she couldn't do that.

maybe the school is bent out of shape because she broke a part of her contract?

taken directly from the article in the first post of this thread:

"The photos came to light last month as a result of a feud over ceramics equipment with another art teacher, according to sworn affidavits. Students who had seen the pictures showed the teacher, who then notified school officials."

students who had seen the pictures informed another teacher. we're talking high school students. now, i know when i was in high school if i saw a picture of a naked woman, it didn't scar me for life. but i'm pretty damn sure if my mom was told that one of my teachers posed nude and the pictures were online where anyone could see them, she'd be pissed. do you honestly think any high school in the country wouldn't do anything if they found out one of their teachers posed nude and the pictures were online where (obviously) some of the students had already seen them?

It's not like she showed them to her students as porn or anything like that (did she even bring them to class?)!!! Who cares what the woman does in her own time? It should be her business. No one elses!!!!

it's like nobody gets it here. she more than likely violated her contract with the school, that's what the problem is.
