Well no shit. But how many bullets you gotta pump into a motherfucker to make sure he's dead?

Enough. The correct answer is enough.

I once saw a guy who was shot through the heart...TWICE...and was able to keep going for another minute because he was so wired up on PCP. It was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen in my life.

He was shot 14 times...kept coming for another minute.

Being very close to law enforcement i didnt want to respond, but feel i have too.

    A. The Cops overreacted and should definetly be stripped of their badges and/or brought up on charges.

    B. Al Sharpton does not need to be involved.

    c. NYPD is under amazing amounts of stress. They deal with shit that most people only see in movies.

    d. As for not being trained well; think about this. The average nypd starting salary is 26-29k per year. Thats bullshit. You could make more working at Mcdonalds without having to worry about coming home alive or not. With the salary the way it is, your not going to be getting an overabundance of intellectuals in the NYPD. Your more intelligent cops will most likely go to the Suburbs where they can make 90,000 patrolling rich peoples homes.

i agree. but i wonder if 1) you feel the same about teachers, the people we entrust to educate our children, who are paid a pittance and 2) how you propose to pay such an increase in salary with your slavish devotion to cutting taxes?

ill tell you what i want to know (after the nature of this accident) what is the NYPD doing paying FIVE cops to sit in a strip club all day looking for violations?

I feel teachers should make good money but not as good as cops. A police officers work is more stressful than a teachers.

Agreed, but show me a cop who works his/her 40 hours in NYC and calls it a day, and I'll show you a cop who doesn't work in NYC.

Same down here in Baltimore. Base salary is crap, but I know patrolmen pulling down between 50-60k a year with OT. Now, OT means more time on the street...which means less rest, more stress, and the law of averages putting men and women in bad situations.

I'd like to meet someone...anyone...who can live on less than $30k a year in NYC. The state of NY should be ashamed of itself for not taking care of thier Police better than that. :(

Where's the community outcry when you have multiple gunshots...nigt after night in the hood?

This is the only part about these tragedies that gets me...everyone sees a police officer mess up...but no one sees the other 364 days a year when brotha's are killing brotha's.

Where's the good Reverend Al to march on black on black violence in NYC? Don't tell me he's just another black hypocrite? Good heavens no! :(

Point ... It only seems newsworthy when a cop is involved, which is a sad state of affairs. I am also waiting for the next time a non-minority gets gunned down by police officers using excessive force. Oh wait. I won't hear a thing. Again, not newsworthy.

Why wouldn't it be newsworthy when cops spray a neighborhood with bullets? maybe it makes the news so much easier when cops fuck up and kill someone than when gangbangers do it is because cops are supposed to be there to protect people and are supposed to be trained to do so effectively. By they way, did I miss something? Maybe I didn't see it but was the guy's race mentioned anywhere in the article?

If you watch the news reporting this story, they really haven't mentioned the fact that most of the Policemen were african-americans, except one which was Lebanese. Most of the media and local activists are acting like it was racist in some nature, but fail to mention there was no white cops involved. Just thought I'd sare.
    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

It isn't newsworthy when gangbangers kill each other because that's what they're supposed to do. The more they do that, the better off we all are. Good news doesn't make the headlines.

But it is newsworthy when cops can't control themselves and fire 31 shots around the neighborhood. I don't care what color cop in what color neighborhood. If he can't hit the broadside of a barn he needs to surrender he weapon and take a desk job.

you're still left with the dilemma in how to pay for the raises these civil servants deserve. the pay for both is pathetic, but nobody seems willing to do anything about it.

Yeah, and who knows who would have been hit by those extra shots! You could have like, killed a bunch of people! Isn't that awesome man?

    2 black, 2 white, 1 Latino.

I think that's why we aren't hearing as much about race this time as we usually do. Even Sharpton is focusing on police actions in general, as opposed to the horrible tyranny of "the man".
