I only got touchy when somebody justified physical violence as an apropriote reaction to a silly joke.

fair enough...but I have to say, if a person goes to an area they are unfamilar with, purposely pushes buttons, and gets clobbered...the person pushing the buttons does bear some blame...please note, I'm not saying it's ok, but I am saying, if those brits got their teeth knocked out, I wouldn't say they were innocent victims.....they would be victims, but not innocent victims...

also, you may see it as a "silly joke", but that's your perspective....others may find it offensive, rude, and just plain wrong....

I remember a few years ago, when a fella by the name of Steve Bartlett, reached out and touched a fly ball, and what did the great people of chicago do, they threatend his life....so, I guess the south is not the only place for irrational people...

That was the second greatest moment of my life. First being the White Sox winning the World Series just two years later. If I ever meet Bartlett he's gonna get a handshake and hug. :D

But yeah, I bashed those idiots as well.. typical Cubs fans. :p

It wasn't a joke, it was an insult to those peoples' way of life.
If their way of life is just Nascar and being anti-gay, they need to find new lives. Sorry. If they had any sense they would have shrugged it off. If someone drove around my neighborhood with "Pearl Jam sucks", "Bush rules". I'd probably be mad, maybe call them idiots, but not go and get "my boys" for a ass whoopin' and start throwing stones. Thats just trash of the earth right there. They may have been asking for it, but only for the garbage to show themselves.

Thats my opinion though. If driving around in a pick-up with your boys looking for trouble and stone throwing is your thing, you might think otherwise.

What about this incident truely relagates it to a particular region of any country?

Assholes bait assholes and get their teeth kicked in by another group of assholes.

What is the point? Assholes exist? Fucking Brilliant!

This is really ground breaking stuff. I imagine the government could pay for a study.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

It doesn't. I saw the video, thought it was funny, and then thought about how the people in this area would not appreciate Pearl Jam, hence "why Pearl Jam won't tour the south".

So true. To think that the whole south is filled with these kind of people and these few idiots are the reason Pearl Jam won't tour here is a tad bit simplistic.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

ive always thought this was kind of a dumb argument. there are a LOT of people that hate homosexuality and statistically, not nearly as many homosexuals. you don't need something like that to explain blind bigotry. did people hate blacks becos they were secretly afraid they might be black? hatred has always been directed against those who are different. though i do think some of those people are afraid it's contagious or something, they seem awfully afraid of the effect it might have on their children.

your right....people do hate for different reasons...and the people that hate other people cause they're not like them is simply cause they're ignorant, scared and insecure. Now as for Homophobia...I feel its different....if your truely comfortable with your sexuality..you have absolutely no problem with someone elses sexuality...hence I still believe if your homophobic..theres a reason. Sooo okay...I did generalize...BUT...still feel a very large proportion of males, in particular, that have a problem with homosexuals....feel that they could be swayed...hence yell the loudest as its been ingrained in their noggins that its wrong. I sometimes wonder if we lived in a free society how many wouldn't be married or playing the sociably acceptable game. I have a very good freind that convinced himself he was hetro....two kids and 14 years later..he divorced and is finally being himself.....
Sure reason organized religions fight it sooo much.....is the fear their particular religion would loose in the baby producing competition. Course many realize...there are too freakin many human animals on this planet already...

I've lived in Texas a few years now (okay since 1982) and have met lots of folks like this...but when you talk to them in private......you see how scared and insecure they really are. As far as the homophobia....I'm convinced its driven by people that have homosexual tendencies and are soooo afraid they may act on it..hence fight it with all their might.

I've talked to people like you on message boards for a while now, and nope, you still aren't smart :)
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things

The peoples response to this is way overboard, there is no question about that. But at the same time, the guys doing the show were purposely instigating it. I live in the south, and yes, there are very redneck areas. But at the same time, if you purposely push peoples buttons, then dont be surprised when they respond do it.
