Funny in many ways. It's funny these men use violence to voice their opinions. They are probably the first to bitch and whine about their freedoms, but when someone uses those freedoms and says something they don't like, they turn to violence.
I thought the film crew was hidden, apparently not. If I see something like that, or something that pisses me off, something so extreme and I see a film crew, I think I'd be able to put two and two together and conclude it's probably a joke, albeit one I cannot laugh with.
It's scary because this woman actually called people up with the intention to cause these guys harm. I don't want to generalize, but I doubt this pure coincidence, I doubt this was the only town in Alabama with those kinds of people.
People who can't handle a situation like this one without violence are in my opinion sad. Freedom of speech is waste on these guys (the rednecks).
But it's also sad because this video will reinforce that stereotype some people hold of southern people.
I read a few of the comments on youtube and one was:
"These British bastards went to that community to provoke people. Had they acted with class, they would have been treated with class and respect. That's the southern way."
I think that's really sad, especially for a community that claims to be so religious.
I watched the programme and, as one said, I don't think they thought they would get the kind of reaction they did. They were expecting dirty looks, etc. but not a truckload of guys ready for 'action'. They were driving across Alabama as fast as they could. They only stopped when they had to! I thought was was written on the cars and the truck was quite harmless....
That was funny as hell. Not to offend our southern friends but I've driven through parts of the south and while most people are friendly there where some down right scary towns out in the sticks.
I was up in Ohio not to long ago and got off the beaten path and guess what???? Trailer parks and kind of scary looking. Can you imagine such things that aren't in Alabama???

Quick question. What would happen if you showed up in South Side Chicago with a sign that said Rap Sucks and I Hate Black People?

Get laughed at by some Mexicans???
"Hating black people" and "hating Nascar" are a little different.. Atleast I think so.
Actually in the ghetto areas you'd have a better chance of survival because they would just think your crazy. If your car was all nice and clean, then you'd probably get robbed and killed, but only in certain areas.
The thing I find interesting is they want to rile up the rednecks. And then they are successful. And then they get attacked and they are surprised? Poke a stick at a lion long enough and he will attack.
Funny, though. It seems the "NASCAR Sucks" seemed to set them off. But "Man Love" was ok.
And you could do this in virtually any state and get a negative reaction.
when the Buffalo Sabres played the Carolina Hurricanes in last year's playoffs, about 7,000 people from Buffalo made the trip to NC.
NOTHING set the fans off more than some guy running through the halls with a NASCAR Sucks sign.
and honestly, if you drove a Man Love Rules truck in most small towns, you'd get shit.

Obviously i don't know much about where people live in Chicago. I'm just saying I think you could think of anything to put on a car like this to piss off people and get a similar reaction anywhere in the world.

this thread is so completely filled with stereotypes, it's really laughable...as is the reason that people look down on the south. Idiotic conservatives: liberals hate america, other countries hate us b/c of our freedom. Idiotic liberals (unfortunately, my fave band included): conservatives bathe themselves in oil before kneeling down to the alter of greed. none of these projections really do any good.
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

I posted it as a joke. Obviously its a stereotype, but just goes to show you the ignorance of some people.

The ignorance of those brits was certainly well captured.
Their whole gig was to do their very best to offend people and incite violence. That "redneck" woman knew exactly what they were up to, that's why she called in the "boys". Hmmm..camera crew...foreigners....inciteful speech painted on vehicles....they're obviously trying to fuck with those people. I would've thrown rocks at the stupid sons of bitches too. As someone else mentioned, if those guys just visited the town, had lunch at the diner, etc., they wouldn't have had any problems. Next time I'm in Manchester I'll be sure to write "Football is for pussies" on my car and have a camera crew in tow to capture their reactions...I'm sure they'd give me a warm reception.

Richard Martin Bergis is a mysterious person, made famous by prank phone calls made to him by dj's at WOCL in Orlando. The calls became an internet phenomenon, and whole websites were dedicated to Mr. Bergis.
From the calls made to him, Bergis has a personality seems to be that of a typical redneck. Bergis displays sides of him that are largely homophobic and racist, he also has a very short temper. Mr. Bergis lives in the city of Greenville, Mississippi with his wife, and two children, Kaitlin, and Max. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Bergis
If you listen to the calls this guy really does not like black people or homosexuals. He gets pretty insane. I don't understand... I mean, how can a person say that to someone over the phone. I've never heard of that. Ok, one time I had a southern American tell me he doesn't like Canadians. But that's it, just once. I hear comments like "I don't really trust those arabs." and I try to talk about it. But this guy is just too much.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire
Well I'm must say, I'm from the south and the back side of my car is completely filled with liberal bumper stickers, I've never had anything close to this happen to me. All we've gotten is cross looks, people shaking their heads behind us at red lights and once someone stole our 'Question War' magnet. And oddly enough, we also get a lot of thumbs ups and peace signs, too. I'd say about 50/50, to be honest. So that's hopeful.
Then again, I'm in SC not Alabama. LOL at the state sign being shot up. The ones in SC, NC and GA do not have bulletholes.
anti Bush and or liberal stickers gets a honk and thumbs up sign....and if I see them leaving their cars....tell them they got cool stickers....course for me......I dont' trust my fellow redneck neighbors...so...other than a Kerry sticker during elections only have my stickman........I soooo wanted to get a F the president sticker....but didn't have the juevos.

I've lived in Texas a few years now (okay since 1982) and have met lots of folks like this...but when you talk to them in private......you see how scared and insecure they really are. As far as the homophobia....I'm convinced its driven by people that have homosexual tendencies and are soooo afraid they may act on it..hence fight it with all their might.

ive always thought this was kind of a dumb argument. there are a LOT of people that hate homosexuality and statistically, not nearly as many homosexuals. you don't need something like that to explain blind bigotry. did people hate blacks becos they were secretly afraid they might be black? hatred has always been directed against those who are different. though i do think some of those people are afraid it's contagious or something, they seem awfully afraid of the effect it might have on their children.

Fuck that! Physical violence like that is NEVER acceptable! I don't care what those English clowns said or expressed. You throw a rock just right and it hits somebody in the head, someone could DIE. If you had thrown rocks at them, then I hope you'd be doing some serious jail time.. "vote for hilliary", "nascar sucks", don't these fucking hicks have a sense of humor. Fortunately the film crew got what they wanted. The intolerance of human beings.. In all reality, the whole thing was probably set up.

Why is everyone from the south offended? This shit is everywhere, for instance when I went to Wal-Mart last night.. This took place in a small town in Alabama. It was meant as a joke. Nascar sucks, so deal with it!

I only got touchy when somebody justified physical violence as an apropriote reaction to a silly joke.
It wasn't a joke, it was an insult to those peoples' way of life.
