I was curious about people's opinions on a subject...particularly jewish people. Every year we have to be super careful about what we use in terms of a theme for our Holiday party, and yes we don't dare to call it a christmas party. So anyway I was helping my boss choose invitations and I like this snowman design. She knocked it down, citing it too "christmasy" How in the heck is a snowman christmasy? I can see if he had a santa hat on or was holding a crucifix?

I don't know..maybe Im missing something. So in an effort to be so politically correct and sensitive our parties seem so boring and plain.

A snowman in the manger... not so much.

lol...yeah I'm not sure if I'd be able to get away with telling her that:D..although i feel like it. It's a seasonal symbol to me. I swear political correctness goes to far times. I understand you have to be sensitive to people's differences but this is just ridiculous.

I know a lot of Jewish people and guess what? They're not offended by Christmas.
The whole thing began when retailers wanted to cash in on the Jewish dollars... and the Muslim dollars... and the Hindu dollars and the VooDoo Dollars by 'including' everyone in on the black ink season between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

I bet is WASN'T a Jewish person. Probably someone that either hates Christmas because of their personal loneliness... or they had a traumatic nutcracker accident in the shower.

  • Snowman to me is just winter. I think your nemesis was stretching too far on that one.

Snowman = snow = winter. Christmas is about eggnog, wrapping, ornaments, lights and the tree.

A snowman has nothing to do with Christmas really from my observation.

In fact I go so far as to say there's no direct connection. Santa never had a snowman on his staff.

This is really the only extremely vague Christmas link there is:

    according to wiki

"Frosty the Snowman is considered to be a Christmas song despite not mentioning Christmas at all."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frosty_the_Snowman
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

    LOL...that made me crackup....

Yeah it could of been someone just being a jerk. People always have opinions about how stuff should be done but seem to never volunteer to help out.

Besides... what does a NutCracker have to do with Jesus? They are usually painted up like fricken'... SOLDIERS.
Unless that particuar nutcracker was a baby Jesus nutcracker.

I think that's where they get the xmas connotation from....frosty..but still...it may be a xmas song....but it's not like it's religious.

Does it snow in the winter, where you live? Do you go out and play in the snow? Do you make snowmen on your front lawn?

Watch out. The Politically Correct Police are now watching you....very closely.

change any textual reference to snowperpeople ... snowMAN is sexist ... so ... snowperson would be next but snowperSON is also sexist so ... it should be called snowperpeople ...

    ouch!!!

and I agree with the others....a snowman is not really a symbol of christmas, it's a symbol of winter

and I had to use your other statement in my sig.....that made me laugh more than anything I've read in the Pit before.....

so you have a holiday party in winter and you can't use anything that has to do with winter? last I checked you can make a snowman at any point (as long as it's good snow), not just around christmas. How bout mistletoe on a belt buckle on the snowman that at least won't offend the non-religious.
