Expediency asks the question:"Is it politic"?
Vanity asks the question:"Is it popular?"
But conscience asks the question:"Is it right?"
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is
neither safe, nor politic, nor popular
but one must take it because one's conscience tells one what is right.

We have a broken system. Voting for either of the two major parties only continues fueling the fire. Until people start looking in a different direction, none of our serious problems will go away. Congress (Dems and Reps) look to accomplish two main things: keep things even so they don't piss off the public so much they get out of control and get re-elected. Other than that, basically, the tie between the business sector and government overseight (or lack their of), fill in the rest. People keep expecting a "savior" to be elected and change things - but their unrealistic. We have a broken system which is predicated on the notion that money fixes all and that citizens have to look out for themselves, all the while, the government is the one setting the climate of the nation (poor economy, poor security - ie failed state). Education, the environment, campaign financing, election/voting fraud - all signs of our broken system. Want to know why we don't have good leaders? Garbage in the system - garbage out of the system (george carlin line).

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

    Okay...

the 2 major parties have our best interests at heart and represent us in this democracy. It's really working out so well for us this way!

i would say that the people who vote for Obama or McCain or Nader do believe that those people believe that they represent them in teh democracy.

i believe that teh post should read "the 2 major parties have my best interests at heart and represent me in this democracy. it's really working for me this way." i think if we start to understand that people vote for who they believe in no mater the reason they feel we should say "eh, those people are different than me" i think it is the job of people like you and all of us to talk to people abotu who they should vote for.

I agree. But that's what frustrates me the most...seeing people say how they don't agree with so much of what their candidate has done but then say he is the only option.

Yeah, it's a pretty powerless and pessimistic view to have especially since we are the one's who get to pick the president. Umm, I guess people are still of the mindset that the corporate bought candidates are the only options we have and that we truly don't live in a democracy also they must be play with this because I'm not seeing too much of a struggle. That's the only way I know how to explain it.

How can we only have 2 options and those 2 are both controlled by corporate money...and yet the masses still think that these candidates will look out for our best interests over the corporations who are paying them not to?

We do not get to pick the president!!!! We do not!!

in a country with hundreds of millions of people, the election is easily manipulated by the media. The system we have is broke. There ARE only two options.. not because the people believe there are only two, but because there are only two!!!!

these millions of people can not be turned around with logic because it fights against deception and manipulation of facts...

this is not just a perception it is a fact.

as long as we can use high tech media to paint the picture for these millions of people, and build a world that plays on their fears.. the election will be decided by the media.. not by choice, but by force. The media has taken this election by force, and the people don't have the means to fight back, becuase we can not create a fake news show to build a world where Nader could be president

while we are living in fabricated worlds, we do not have a vote.... we do not!

Power in numbers. It's more our country and democracy than it is theirs. We need to stop acting powerless, apathetic, whining and do something about it! Lest we continue to be alright with being slaves who have no real say.

I agree. I don't see how a vote for Nader is that.
