I quite like the song but...

Would this song have been better left for Ed to sing?

Just keen to get some opinions about this one.

    I absolutely adore Mankind! Definately one of my favourites but y'know, I can't really say why.... :confused:
    Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

    ... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

    I like the song too. The overall message of the song is up there with the Pearl Jam classics. I'm sure if Ed sang the song it would be just as good, I don't mind Stone singing it, however, it's not the best live song.. Plus Stone usually fouls up the lyrics... you'd think with only 2 (?) songs that you sing lead on, he'd know the lyrics :D

    I dont think anyone would doubt who's the better singer, and that as always Ed would deliver this tune brilliantly

    Stones scrawny little voice suits the song to a T.
    I love this song, my favorite song on NOCODE, well almost, just behind HAIL HAIL

    As a fan of the Beatles, I'm all for different dudes singing within the same band. I think Stone's voice is perfect for Mankind. It suits the song well. I'm sure it would still kick ass if Ed sang it, but I'm quite pleased Stone stepped to the mic for this one.

    I think my favorite version of this song is on Disc 2 of the 05-03-03 - State College, Pennsylvania bootleg.. that's the version that really got me into the song, even though they mess up at the beginning :]

    Stone's got a great voice. He may not be a good singer but he's got a nice accent. It makes a change from Eddie as well. (Let the 'stoning' begin). ;)

    I'm with you on this one. I love the song and would love to see Stone sing it live! Europe 2008 anyone??

    mankind is the one song i never really got into...the first time i heard it i thought "foo fighters?" its OK. and i think matt should do lead vocals on a PJ song. his singng in WWC is pretty good.

    i love stones vocals on mankind, it would be a totally different song with ed, not saying it'd be bad, but i like stones flavour on it :)
