good thing all our assets are in iraq fighting for halliburton. north korea becomes a nuclear state and we are too weak to do anything about it. way to make the world a safer place W. thank you again george for your shitty diplomacy, we will be able to do nothing about this, sending iran the message that if you do not want to be invaded or overthrown, you better nuke up, cause once you do, there is nothing we can do. we only attack the week.

Exactly.. If I was Iran right now, I'd be racing my ass off to get those nukes ready. At the risk of World War 3, I highly doubt the U.S. has the balls to attack somebody with nukes.

That's why this is MORE than a U.S. problem!!!!!! China, South Korea, Japan, want NO PART of that crazy nut job having a nuke!!!! If anything happens militarily, look for South Korea or Japan to do measured strikes first! I don't see this as a military action "RIGHT NOW".

I think you should have researched a little bit more into where US and coalition forces are throughout the world. Many are in the Middle East and many are over throughout the entire Pacific theater. We live in interesting times.

Boy, this will do absolute wonders for stability in the East Asian region. Lovely.
  • I can remember walking down the road at 4am, just hours before I was supposed to be waking up to go to school, listening to Bad Religion after having visited my then girlfriend, thinking how if Bush gets elected somehow I was going to see a nuclear bomb go off within my eyesight in my lifetime...

    "Blacktop pavement cover me
Like a chemical reaction or a steam roller
    Spreading randomly
There's a distant buzz, and low frequency
It tickles my ear, rumbles under my feet
And it shakes the leaves off of every tree, violently

    What pretension
    Everlasting peace
    Everything must cease

    Institution on the Hill
Like a beacon in the mind of an ancestor
    To ignite a people's will
There's a shadowed stain on the west facade
It has spread like decay to enshroud the fraud
And the descendants find it oh so odd
    Oh so odd

    What pretension
    Everlasting peace
    Everything must cease

    Grave memorial hewn white stone
Like the comforting caress of a mother
Or a friend you've always known
It evokes such pain and significance
What was once is reduced to remembrance
And the generations pass without recompense

    What pretension
    Everlasting peace
    Everything must cease
    Everything must
    Cease"

    We need more protest songs.

this happened over 5 hours ago and your president bush is still SLEEPING. while other world leaders have commented on it, only tony snow had a comment while bush is unaware that it has even happened. as for placing the blame, the entire world is blaming the bush administration for this escalation. the clinton admin was doing well in negotiations before your big brave cowboy called all negotiations off, leading to north korea kicking out weapons inspectors, firing up their plants, test firing missiles, and now a nuke. the north koreans themselves openly state this is due to the bush administration. they state that the talk within the bush administration of regime change forced them to do this, when your cowboy listed them as a rouge state in his axis of evil comments and then proceeded to stumble into iraq, the north koreans stated that the united states would not have toppled the iraqi regime if saddam had the bomb, therefore in self defense they would acquire the bomb. and they have, and it worked. if YOU think the united states is the school bully or not is irrelevant, the FACT is the entire world looks at the united states as the school bully, and they are arming themselves to defend against it. iran will learn from this that if they do not want to be toppled, they NEED the bomb, it will also lead to an arms race all over northeast asia. the chain reaction to this event will make this planet a FAR scarier and less secure place. and it is directly the fault of george bush. it is a fact, not opinion, that this is the fault of the bush administration. some of you will deny that and excuse W. from blame in this, but your just flat wrong. im watching cnn international right now, and everyone they talk to from other nations is putting the blame squarely on george w. bush, dick cheney, and donald rumsfeld. how anyone can continue to support this buffoon is beyond me. it seems like the only people that do support him are those so afraid that they dont care what liberties he takes away as long as you can feel safer, but it is glaringly obvious that he is putting you in so much more danger, how can you possibly feel safe while he puts the country and the entire planet in such parrel? can it be that only you are right and the entire planet has it wrong? it is stunning that 30 something percent of this country still supports this turd. possibly when everyone wakes up in the morning and realises what he has brought us to this will change, but chances are, when bush wakes up and puts his spin on this, his poll numbers will rise. if that happens, if this country finds MORE support for this asshole in the wake of what he has brought us to, we truly deserve whatever we have coming. what a sad sad sad tub of shit this nation is if he is allowed to represent us for another 2 years.

I agree that this happened under Bush's watch bc of his failed diplomacy/disregard and our hands are tied behind our back bc we are meddling in way too much shit around the world that is not our business but...WHY doesn’t France, Germany, UK, China, Japan etc... deserve any of the blame for N. Korea going nuclear???

because noth korea itself is stating that they are doing this to protect itself from the bush administration. cheney and rumsfeld have been pushing for regime change in north korea, and have urged W. to stop all negotiations, if the united states talks about regime change in iraq, then invades iraq, and they talk about it in north korea, and cut off all negotiations, what was north korea supposed to do? wait to be overthrown by the united states? they have made it VERY clear that having a nuke is the only way to defend themselves against us. so they got the nuke. who would you blame? none of the countries you listed got all cowboy and listed north korea on a hit list like the U.S. did. and now what do we do? NOTHING! bullies do not pick on kids who can defend themselves. they pick on the weak. and WHEN we do nothing, that message will ring loud and clear in iran. truth is, there is nothing we can do... what are gonna overthrow the north korean regime when they have nukes? and with what army will we do something about it with? we cannot sustain the troops we have in the halliburton war, who is gonna go die for bushes mistakes in northeast asia? dont take my word for it, watch any news organization other that FOX, and you'll get the picture. bush has fucked it up BIG time with this one. the UN should meet to figure out how to punish the united states for its irrisponsibility. if the democrats are too afraid to spell this out for the american people while the rest of the world focuses its anger at the bush administration, then they deserve to be disbanded as a political party. congress should come back from vacation TODAY to start impeachment proceedings against W. for the position he has put the world in. he has made us the laughing stock, and most hated nation on the face of the planet. i am ashamed to be an american. absolutely sickened to be an american. i believe that this will change things, i believe this may be the last straw for americans, this will wake people up and this administration will be held accountable for its negligence. they all need to be inprisoned. life in prison for bush, cheney, and rumsfeld is the ONLY way this country can gain back it integrity.

Alright a lot of blame rests of GW's shoulders- but its not like the international community acted promptly to this threat either... The US should have agreed to the bilateral talks in 2003. However, this nuclear struggle been going on since 93'(or before). Yeah- diplomacy worked for a decade but thats not to say they were not already enriching uranian and other shit behind our back. I dont think N Korea could have made this bomb in under 4 years(since Bush came out with the "Axis of Evil" term) without existing technology/production already already at operational level.

Either way: Cant wait to see Bush fly all over the country this week spewing more bullshit about making our country safer in these "times of peril".

A former Army Intelligence guy I know was telling me that there are so many US Patriot missile batteries situated on the border in S. Korea that there is just no way N. Korea could ever get an aggressively aimed missile to leave its own airspace w/o it being knocked down.

I think the real worry is N. Korea selling the parts or the technology.

That comforting...until they attach that shit to a missile/bomb loaded on a plane we don’t spot.

Yeah no doubt. This is taken from today's NYT:

"But the big fear about North Korea, American officials have long said, has less to do with its ability to lash out than it does with its proclivity to proliferate. The country has sold its missiles and other weapons to Iran, Syria and Pakistan; at various moments in the six-party talks that have gone on for the past few years, North Korean representatives have threatened to sell nuclear weapons."

Did Diplomacy really work for a decade? Doesn't seem to have. Else this wouldn't be happening...or does the definition of diplomacy mean, "pay them so they won't be bad."

And if this is all W's fault (not directed at you Jammin909)...why were they seeking a bomb in the 90s? To protect them from Cheney and W?? Odd....

one more thing..if someone really believes all of our military assets are in the mideast..they might want to do a little research. Like read about our recent war games in the pacific....as in this summer.

But interestingly, the tests were bigger? This North Korean test was at a sub-kiloton level. It's not confirmed, as of yet, whether this latest test was nuclear, or conventional (bar North Korean claims).

Comparing France to N. Korea is like comparing Bush to Saddam.

Anyhow, the US is only partially to blame.

Besides further isolating N Korea and simply hoping this policy leads to the downfall of "Lil Kim", what was Bush's plan?? I dont know what S Korea, Japan, and China wanted to do but I am sure it was more complicated than just trying to starve them.

This harsh rhetoric and lack of action is not going to do shit. All over the news today, "China condemns N Korea"..."Russia condems"..."the UN unanimously agrees"...well fucking do something about it.

Russia wont bc they are the energy suppliers, China wont bc of trade... The UN wont bc they need one million different countries to actually agree when it's in their immediate financial interest not to act.
